Gigalogas

The Ectobeast

(Updated July 05, 2023)
Entrant for Dotafire's Spooky Hero Creation Contest.

Gigalogas is a hero with two health bars in one unit! One is owned by a mortal mage, and should the mage fall, nothing else shall contain the phantom liger's Recrudescence.
Dusk Chill is a simple spell that surrounds him in midnight temperature, greatly slowing enemies around him. His mere gait rifts the borders of this realm and the realm of the dead, spewing disarming Ectoblasts every couple of seconds. Soul Fraction, for the mage, draws 2 fractions of his enemies' soul, which he can then redirect to either allies or enemies, healing or burning over time. Soul Fraction works a little differently for the Phantom Liger. 1 soul fraction is drained from each enemy and he cannot heal allies, but he has more control to those souls and grants him powerful lifesteal for each soul fractions he kept.

LORE:

Gigalogas is a legendary Phantom Liger. Upon almost defeating a fabled wizard of death, the wizard's magic forcibly controlled his strength in a dark twist, as was the plan all along: to contain and own the power of the beast for himself. But he underestimated Gigalogas' power. While successful at first in binding the cteature, his mind, his soul is being eaten away.
Instead, it is the beast that dominated the hapless wizard. It is now Gigalogas that owns the wisdom, knowledge, and experience of the man. But trapped in such a puny flesh. Centuries past by and the mage had turned completely nameless.

Advance Comments / Discussion

Dusk Chill
This spell is so simple that it needs no discussion. It's just a really good spell to keep enemies from moving too much as he does his other abilities: Ectoblasts and Soul Fraction. All of which works in an AoE of about 400 radius.

Ectoblasts
Imagine mini-sunstikes every few seconds near Gigalogas. Enemies can see exactly where they will pop during the delay.

This is the ability that will make Gigalogas be picked in a competitive meta. It is also no coincidence that this is his most frustrating spell to play against. If all implosions continuously hit an enemy, its disarm will have a 60% (86%) uptime! There's currently no heroes in the game that can disarm this much, making him a valid counter-pick against right-clicking heroes!
Due to the nature of this ability. Actually hitting anything will be quite a challenge. Prior set-up will be required (hint: Dusk Chill), however, with such a low cooldown its definitely going to hit some times as enemies will get too busy to move too much.

Soul Fraction
bonus visual

If you never mind the mana cost, this ability has the most utility. It can detect invisible heroes and scout enemies in the fog of war; it deal both magic and pure damage, as well as healing allies. Its effects grow the more heroes are in vicinity. But it does put the squishy mage dangerously into the fray.

Recrudescence
Finally, we have Recrudescence, a unique form of resurrection as the only ability that can be cast while dead. The hero resurrects as a Phantom Liger! Despite the small differences between the mortal mage form and the Phatom Liger form, that's a MASSIVE change in playstyle. The mortal form must usually play semi-passively to protect it's small HP pool.
Phantom Liger form is a powerful, but more unstable version of the hero, the biggest outlier is that he's constantly losing massive amounts of HP per second. This is where the lifesteal and spell lifesteal comes into play, forcing the Phantom Liger form to be most aggressive. The ability Soul Fraction provides some amount of healing as well.

Gameplay

The mage can farm creeps. Thanks to being an intelligence hero, he has more mana to farm using Ectoblasts. He also pass as a valuable support during his time in a mage's body. Offering powerful debuffs, damage and healing. Surprisingly, the same debuffs and damage works for his carry Phantom Liger.
The Liger can farm heroes. Soul Fraction gives more powerful lifesteal the more enemies are present, together with the permanent damage reduction, Gigalogas will be hard to take down in this form. I gotta admit, I like how he changes from support to carry by just a few modifications to the spells.

ITEMIZATIONS :
Gigalogas can fulfil a niche of either carry and support. It is still advisable to stick Gigalogas with the carry route, though. These items will still prove painful at the hands of the weak mortal form. For suppo carries: Gigalogas remain very versatile in his item choices:
— General Role —
  • Magic Stick - Always a welcome item
  • Urn of Shadows / Spirit Vessel - A solid pick-up regardless of going for support items or carry items.
  • Medallion of Courage / Solar Crest - Another good 'all-round' pick-up. Mage can use it in addition to the healing from Soul Fraction to protect allies. While the Liger can use the active to bring the most out of his right-click damage.
— Support Role — — Carry Role —
