Gigalogas

The Ectobeast

Entrant for Dotafire's Spooky Hero Creation Contest.

RECENT UPDATES

V 1.04

Gigalogas is a hero with two health bars in one unit! One is owned by a mortal mage, and should the mage fall, nothing else shall contain the phantom liger's Recrudescence.
Dusk Chill is a simple spell that surrounds him in midnight temperature, greatly slowing enemies around him. His mere gait rifts the borders of this realm and the realm of the dead, spewing disarming Ectoblasts every couple of seconds. Soul Fraction, for the mage, draws 2 fractions of his enemies' soul, which he can then redirect to either allies or enemies, healing or burning over time. Soul Fraction works a little differently for the Phantom Liger. 1 soul fraction is drained from each enemy and he cannot heal allies, but he has more control to those souls and grants him powerful lifesteal for each soul fractions he kept.

LORE:

Gigalogas is a legendary Phantom Liger. Upon almost defeating a fabled wizard of death, the wizard's magic forcibly controlled his strength in a dark twist, as was the plan all along: to contain and own the power of the beast for himself. But he underestimated Gigalogas' power. While successful at first in binding the cteature, his mind, his soul is being eaten away.
Instead, it is the beast that dominated the hapless wizard. It is now Gigalogas that owns the wisdom, knowledge, and experience of the man. But trapped in such a puny flesh. Centuries past by and the mage had turned completely nameless.

For each enemy heroes near Gigalogas, a fraction of their soul is siphoned above them, which deals pure damage. He can then redirect the soul fractions into a target unit.
In Mortal Mage form, 2 soul fractions are siphoned for each enemy heroes instead of 1. Dealing twice the pure damage.
In Phantom Liger form, the soul fractions will orbit Gigalogas instead of remaining in place, gives bonus lifesteal for each of the orbiting orbs.

Advance Comments / Discussion

Dusk Chill
This spell is so simple that it needs no discussion. It's just a really good spell to keep enemies from moving too much as he does his other abilities: Ectoblasts and Soul Fraction. All of which works in an AoE of about 400 radius.

Ectoblasts
Imagine mini-sunstikes every few seconds near Gigalogas. Enemies can see exactly where they will pop during the delay.

This is the ability that will make Gigalogas be picked in a competitive meta. It is also no coincidence that this is his most frustrating spell to play against. If all implosions continuously hit an enemy, its disarm will have a 60% (86%) uptime! There's currently no heroes in the game that can disarm this much, making him a valid counter-pick against right-clicking heroes!
Due to the nature of this ability. Actually hitting anything will be quite a challenge. Prior set-up will be required (hint: Dusk Chill), however, with such a low cooldown its definitely going to hit some times as enemies will get too busy to move too much.

Soul Fraction
bonus visual

If you never mind the mana cost, this ability has the most utility. It can detect invisible heroes, deal both magic and pure damage, heal allies and scout enemies in the fog of war. Its effects grow the more heroes are in vicinity. But it does put the squishy mage dangerously into the fray. Pick the spell lifesteal talent to bring back whatever health would be lost.

Recrudescence
Finally, we have Recrudescence, a unique form of resurrection. Gigalogas start the game using the mortal mage form. Resurrecting as the Phantom Liger without fail once he got lvl 6. This makes him the true pinnacle of two health bars in Dota2. This ability is NOT a +1 life, nope, this is x2 life! Which means by simply having Aegis of the Immortal, enemies now have to kill him 4 times! Fortunately, the mage is easy to kill, with terrible strength and no escape abilities amplified by the fact that all of his spells work at very low range. Just avoid the disarms and he won't last long. The Phantom Liger, on the hand...

Aghanim's Scepter grants an instant suicide active to Recrudescence. While it's easier for me to say and easier for readers to digest, the active does NOT ACTUALLY tick 3 times faster on Mortal Mage form:
  • What remaining cooldown the ability has is divided by 3 on the moment Gigalogas spawned as Mortal Mage
  • What remaining cooldown the ability has is multiplied by 3 on the moment Gigalogas spawned as Phantom Liger
  • EXAMPLE: Mortal Mage instantly suicides. Starts at 240 cooldown and ticks down normally like every abilities. Then Phantom Liger die and you wait to respawn in fountain. Say, you respawn with 60s remaining. That 60s will become 20s when you respawn! If you proceed to pathetically die with 5s remaining. That 5s remaining becomes 15s! Effectively reducing 30 seconds cooldown overall.

Gameplay

The mage can farm creeps. Thanks to being an intelligence hero, he has more mana to farm using Ectoblasts. He also pass as a valuable support during his time in a mage's body. Offering powerful debuffs, damage and healing. Surprisingly, the same debuffs and damage works for his carry Phantom Liger.
The Liger can farm heroes. Soul Fraction gives more powerful lifesteal the more enemies are present, together with the permanent damage reduction, Gigalogas will be hard to take down in this form. I gotta admit, I like how he changes from support to carry by just a few modifications to the spells.

ITEMIZATIONS :
While Gigalogas can fulfil a niche of both carry and support. It is still advisable to stick Gigalogas with the carry route. Focused on attack DPS than mana regeneration. Even going for carry, Gigalogas remain very versatile in his item choices: Battle Fury, Desolator, Sange and Yasha, you name it. Situationals
  • Urn of Shadows / Spirit Vessel - A solid pick-up regardless of going for support items or carry items.
  • Medallion of Courage / Solar Crest - Another good 'all-round' pick-up. Mage can use it in addition to the healing from Soul Fraction to protect allies. While the Liger can use the active to bring the most out of his right-click damage.
  • Maelstrom - gives decent farm potential. And unlike Battle Fury, still works when on the ranged mage.
  • Eye of Skadi - Great durability, agility, and the slow resonates well with what Phantom Liger Gigalogas want to do.
  • Aghanim's Scepter - Unless you're winning and you want to protect your killstreak than actually buying better items, then by all means get an Aghs. But in most cases, it's rather insignificant. Yes... I intentionally made the aghs this way.
  • Perhaps every other items not mentioned by name.
