Primus

The End Program

Description

A robot designed for destruction by any means necessary, the End Program is a deadly ranged Intelligence attack damage carry that boasts great adaptability. The different bonuses provided by Sentry Mode and Strike Mode allows it to approach combat in the most ideal way. It can also customize its kit using Scanner to grant specific stats or passive abilities. This not only increases versatility but also makes Primus a good counterpick against certain heroes. It may Unload its arsenal to lockdown as well as give chase or escape depending on how the ability is used. And with Napalm Bomb, it can hinder mobility and potentially deal massive damage across a large zone.

Discussion

"What if a hero could copy passives?"

  • And Primus is the answer I came up with to this hypothetical question. Spell Steal and Morph really allows the user to copy other active abilities to great effect. But for passive abilities, even Morphling can't always use them because he usually switches back and forth (Side Note: This concept was created before the recent change to Morph so I cannot tell how accurate this statement will be). Thus, Scanner was invented as a fun thought experiment. Some passives will be weaker because they depended on other abilities like Ransack and Spirit Link while others lose actives like Retaliate and Guardian Sprint. However, some will be very strong because the original hero would be weak without them like Greevil's Greed and Berserker's Blood. Melee ones then vary from abusive like Fury Swipes and Jinada to awkward like Rip Tide and Natural Order. The attribute bonus then is a fail-safe in case the enemy has no passives, but can still be useful with how much stats it can give. This all does rely on enemy composition or a 4200 gold investment for allies so is overall pretty situational.

  • But to further reduce exploits, Primus has below average attack speed and attack range. This can be made up with its 2 ultimates. Sentry Mode lets it attack faster to take full advantage of an applicable passive or gained Intelligence at the cost of rooting the user, reminiscent of Burrow but enhancing attacks instead of spells. Each usage requires commitment and foresight so the defensive buffs are welcome to survive. Meanwhile, Strike Mode lets it attack further alongside higher damage and move speed, making this form great at kiting. While they can be used separately as the situation requires, they can also be simultaneously turned on. This act doubles the upkeep cost and wastes the bonus movement speed but the raw combat power boost could be worth it.

  • The rest of the kit is rather simple. Napalm Bomb, a mix of Sticky Napalm and Shrapnel, controls an area by crippling enemy movement and deals bonus damage with attacks. The size and duration are generous but keep in mind that the burn only occurs if Primus manages to attack enemies that are inside it. So despite it already slowing, having additional disables to keep enemies in the radiation zone will maximize the damage dealt. One example is to Unload a large stun and decent nuke. The interesting component of this ability is the knockback. When used outright, the enemy will be locked in place while the user is knocked away so there is time to walk back into range. If the stun is needed but the knock back is not, casting Sentry Mode beforehand is an option. If the dash is needed to dodge or move over terrain, the blast itself can be sacrificed by targeting the ability in unusual directions.

  • While Primus is primarily built as a carry, an alternative playstyle could be to play it as a support since the nature of its base abilities do not fully rely on scaling. Even Napalm Bomb does not really require attack speed since it deals damage over time and does not stack. Scanner can also copy useful auras that benefit allies such as Divine Favor and Vengeance Aura. In terms of talents, the left side provides more damage damage while the right side provides more utility. The key experience to playing Primus should be viable adaptability. However, items are seen to be more streamlined like Dragon Lance and Orchid Malevolence as well as general attack speed. Force Staff is especially useful to circumvent the self-root.

I like this hero idea actually. Would be a very intereating hero to see in dota because we dont have any hero that could steal passives.
