These are the key combos which you should use and lookout for. This is going to briefly teach you everything you need to know about Oracle and help you do good in your very first game. This is for players who have never touched Oracle and don't know how to approach him.

A quick overview

Oracle is a very flexible hero who can both save your allies and deal good damage to the enemy. He’s not highly item dependent since his abilities have very low mana costs. However he really needs some quick early levels in order to be efficient. He’s very squishy and definitely needs survivability items. And as I said previously his abilities have quite low mana costs so you don’t have to worry about buying lots of raw mana or intelligence items. Oracle can be played both as a support and as a semi-carry. He’s most suited for position 3 however that can greatly vary depending on your team’s needs. Oracle’s attributes aren’t amazing but his stats are above average. For one his Base Attack Time is [note=without base attack speed from agility]1.4[/note], one of the lowest in the game, his front swing is 0.3, his movement speed is 305 and his attack range is 620. These stats make him very good for harassing his lane opponent without getting counter harassed. He can quickly launch an attack, back off a bit and then go for another attack. Players who have an easy time last hitting with tinker will love Oracle since he has the same projectile speed and has slightly faster front swing. Oracle’s low Base Attack Time is one of the reasons why he can transition into a semi-carry. His low need for attack speed items allows him to invest his gold into pure damage items.

Fate's Edict into Purifying Flames.

This is Oracle's most famous combo. Fate's Edict prevents the target from taking Purifying Flame's burst damage, leaving out only the healing. At higher levels of Fate's Edict you can use Purifying Flames twice for a roughly 800hp heal. Keep in mind that this HP will be replenished over time and is not burst regen. If used quickly you'll be regenerate this HP over 13 seconds. Also keep in mind that this ability is non-lethal when cast on allies so even if you screw up you won't kill them. Still be careful when using this combo during battle.
Purifying Flames into Fortune's End

Not as widely used but it's a great early game burst combo. Since the regeneration from Purifying Flames is a buff, Fortune's End will remove it, allowing you to deal roughly 600 magic damage which is guaranteed to hit.
The only downside to this combo is that you loose out on the long disable from Fortune's End so this is mostly useful only during the early game. Which leads us to...

False Promise into Fortune's End into Fate's Edict

The thing here is that you need to be close to the enemy so you can channel the full duration Fortune's End and since False Promise allows you to do that safely without being revealed it's necessary to use it in this combo. After the target is disabled you need to cast Fate's Edict onto the target and also Orchid Malevolence. This is your bread and butter late game combo. The enemy will be disabled for a very long duration, they won't be able to attack back, they won't be able to use spells against you or to escape. And with all of that damage amplification you can quite easily solo kill an enemy.

Fate's Edict vs Roshan

Fate's Edict can be casted on rosh and yes he'll take 50% dmg more damage from physical damage and yes he'll be disarmed. Keep in mind that in Dota1 the Disarm causes Roshan to leave his pit where you can not attack him so it's good to use this ability on him when he also has a movement speed slow.

Hero Combos

There are too many so I'll only go over a few.

All physical damage carries.
Yes, all right clickers work amazingly with Oracle. False Promises save's lives while Fate's Edict takes lives. So with that being said, I'll now move on to the more interesting ones.

One of Oracle’s strongest hero combos is Ancient Apparition’s Ice Blast into Purifying Flames. Since Ice Blast prevents any regeneration on the affected targets you can use Purifying Flames to burst down an enemy. It’s like Christmas for Oracle every time Ancient Apparition buys an Aghanims Scepter and lands a good Ice Blast.
Another sweet combo with Ancient Apparition is Fortune's End into Cold Feet. Channel the full duration of Fortune's End and you’ll disable the target for 2.5 seconds. After that Ancient Apparition should immediately cast Cold Feet. This combo allows you to very easily disable a target and right click it down. Now something which you should consider when lanning with Ancient Apparition is that Fate’s Edict grants the target 100% magic resistance and Chilling Touch deals magical damage so you can’t use both abilities together in order to deal some serious right click damage. You have to choose one over the other.

Oracle is one of Huskar’s biggest allies. Given Huskar’s huge spell resistance at low HP you can spam Purifying Flames on him without dealing much damage and thus heal him for a lot. Using False Promise on a low HP Huskar is the same as using Dazzle’s Shallow Grave on a low HP Huskar. You sustain a brutal beast which deals huge amounts of right click damage. Best of all, you can freely still spam Purifying Flames on the low HP Huskar while he’s under False Promise so after the duration he can recover with a lot of HP. Keep in mind when supporting a Huskar to not use Fate’s Edict on the enemy when he’s using Burning Spears since they deal magical damage.

The next combo I’ll go over is Shadow Demon + Oracle. The first combo they can make is Disruption + Soul Catcher + Fate’s Edict. This combo allows for some serious right click damage to be dealt to the enemy. Their other combo requires Shadow Demon to have an Aghanims Scepter in order to be fully efficient. It’s Purifying Flames into Demonic Purge. The purge removes the heal from the target so only the damage is left. With Aghanims Scepter you can repeat this combo multiple times and easily solo a high HP enemy. The problem is that Shadow Demon needs to sacrifice his ult.

Io benefits a lot from you. Using False Promise on a Io before relocating with an ally will make sure that the enemy doesn't focus Io first as they'll need to have true sight and waste more time on hitting him since they won't really know when he's actually dead. False Promise into Fate's Edict into Purifying Flames on a Io while he's tethered to an ally will guarantee a huge heal for both heroes.

Leshrac can work out quite nicely with Oracle in a lane, so long as they use their abilities correctly. Channel the full duration Fortune's End which will allow Leshrack to land an easy stun. If needed he should use his Lightning Storm to prevent the enemy from going too far away. After that you should cast Fate's Edict and Leshrac's Diabolic Edict. Maxing out both Diabolic Edicts and using them together assures that you'll do a huge amount of damage. If you go for an early Medallion that would make this combo even more powerful. Leshrac won't be able to deal anymore magic damage to the target however for the early game this is extremely good. Especially if you're given the opportunity to cast Fortune's End again for the the 2.5 second disable.

The last combo I'll go over is with Timbersaw. Timbersaw deals mostly pure damage so he fully benefits from Oracle’s Fate’s Edict. If you thought Timbersaw was amazing at bursting down enemies before, try imagining how fast he’ll take down an enemy hero with a 50% damage increase on his abilities for 6 seconds.

Recommended Items

Boots you should avoid:

Tranquil Boots - You already have a powerful self heal so you don't really benefit from them. You want to attack often as it's your main form of harassment so Tranquil Boots works against you mostly. The only benefit is that they'll heal you for quite a bit when you use False Promise. But again, that's only if you're not attacking or being attacked.

Arcane Boots - You're quite mana efficient so you don't want to waste your gold on this item. After buying it you'll quite soon feel sorry for wasting 1k gold which you could have invested into something better.
A personal favorite of mine is Orchid Malevolence as it provides you will all of the mana regen you need, plus it nicely increases your damage output and provides you with a silence. A definite pick up if you're going for a semi-carry build.

Boots you should pick up:

Power Treads are my personal favorites. Tread switching not only allows you to switch between more HP with Mana and damage but it also synergies with your Fate's Edict into False Promise combo. As the bonus mana covers some of the costs from the combo and your lowered max HP allows you to heal yourself for more.

Phase Boots: More damage, more mobility. Good pick up though I still recommend treads.

Late game, Boots Travel will always be the boots of choice.

Core and Luxury:

If you're going for Semi-Carry Oracle then Orchid of Malevolence is a must pick up. It covers all of your mana issues and it increases your right click power, in addition to that it also gives you a powerful silence. Great pick up for this hero.

Utility: Eul's Scepter and Rod of Atos are ok pick ups which you may want to consider.

Mekansm: Oracle is a good Mekansm holder since he can best combo it with his abilities. An ally under False Promise getting healed by Mekansm will recover 500 HP. Combine that with your own heals and you can keep an ally alive for a very long time.

Urn of Shadows: Good utility if you're sure that they will be a lot of kills. Again this synergies quite nicely with your ultimate.

Blink Dagger or Force Staff are also something which you'll need. Despite the long casting range of your abilities, you'll wish to keep your distance away as you are going to be often a quite high priority target.

Eye of Skadi, Heart of Tarrasque and damage items. Oracle is squishy so you need to compensate for that. However as I mentioned he can transition as a semi-carry if needed and damage items are what he needs. One of my favorites is Desolator. You don't need more attack speed so Mjollnir isn't needed, you can already self heal so Helm of the Dominator isn't a necessary pick up (though a Satanic is always nice). So overall Desolator provides you with a lot of damage. Combine the armor reduction with Fate's Edict and you'll be dealing a ton of damage to the enemy.

General builld:

In 95% of cases you'll need only 1 lvl of Fortune's End. You already have the 2.5 second disable at lv1 so there's no need to put in more levels.

Fate's Edict is an ability you really need to max out when you're playing as a support. If you're solo lanning or even if you're side lanning with an ally, you may want to put in more lvs just so you can prevent the enemy from last hitting and so you can harass them more.

Purifying Flames, you max this skill first in almost all cases.

So the typical build is 1/1/3, though you can spice it up with 1/2/2 or even 1/3/1 but imo it's a waste not to put in more levels of Purifying Flames early no so you'll rarely be going for the 3rd option. 1/1/3 is what 90% of times you'll be going for.

So with all of this knowledge, you'll be able to dominate most of your games with Oracle. If not, you'll know what he's good at and how to counter him.

It's just a quick tutorial but I can make it as a guide since everyone is suggesting.

Still think arcane's is the best choice. After all, Purifying Flames is on a 3 second cooldown. You can also purge the heal off of the enemies yourself, so the Shadow Demon shabang might not be that useful.

And you didn't list the "trucking combo" - Alchemist + Oracle. So you thought 100 regen is stupid? Welcome to 300.

Well done F.E.A.R.0. This was very well thought out. I've been practicing Oracle for a couple of hours now and I agree with everything you've said. I think that Arcanes might actually be a reasonable pickup though. Nerif starts with 299 mana, and his Q takes 100 of this. No matter what you skill first, you could burn through mana pretty wuickly early, since your auto-attack will be basically zero help.
