Well she is refered as "she" in her lore so that's why everyone uses "she" when they talk abou spectre.

Always try to get Radiance on Spectre, it's like an agha upgrade to her Haunt and also the best farming item for her, once you get a Radiance you can get one big item every 5~10 minutes if things goes well. Don't argue with me that everything is situational and blablabla but getting Radiance on Spectre is like getting Boots of Travel on Tinker.

Generally you want to farm as much as possible during early game without jeopardise you and your teammates, sometimes is better to continue your free farm in lane when a gank happened on the other side of the map, because you are not guaranteed for the kill gold, and assist gold are merely about 3 last hits. Only Haunt when you are sure that your team can get at least 2 kills. Also, don't haunt when you have no boots because her movement speed are too slow to chase someone down, unless you want to last hit fleeing hero with Spectral Dagger, but doing this will leave you no mana and forced to farm in an undesirable lane.

Please don't go Vanguard or Crimson Guard, you need to abuse your Desolate in early-mid game. Buying these 2 items will slow down your Radiance and reduce your effectiveness throughout the game. You are meant to deal damage as much as possible, not tanking with your Dispersion. Because you are not a Medusa who have to tank damage while casting Stone Gaze, you are a Spectre who jump on those supports' faces and kill them before they kill you. You want tankiness? Just get a Stout Shield and possibly a Point Booster, or a Bracer should be fine. You want some sustainability? Get a Ring of Health is fine so you can double haunt later. You need to farm early game so you only aim for Sacred Relic and recipe, that's all, there is no slot issue.

My item build :
  1. Boots of Speed, some heal and only go for Bracer or Point Booster if I'm a gank magnet.
  2. Radiance if you can get it by 20:00. You can upgrade your boots before or after getting Radiance.
  3. If you need some tankiness, get a Drum of Endurance now if no one else get it and you have a Bracer, otherwise skip this. Because **** Vanguard.
  4. Manta Style and Diffusal Blade, any order should be fine.
  5. Time to get an Eye of Skadi. This should be your 6th slot so you may sell your Drum of Endurance before getting Eye of Skadi if you have it.
  6. Upgrade your boots to Boots of Travel to free up 1 more slot now.
  7. Get an Abyssal Blade to deal with BKB-holder, or get a Refresher Orb for awesome 3 lifes ( fight, boots back, haunt, fight, refresh and maybe fight a little more, boots back, haunt, fight and win )
  8. If you bought both Abyssal Blade and Refresher Orb, put Refresher Orb in stash. Then you can buyback when you are killed, use it to refresh Haunt and return to the teamfight.

Spectre is a she.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, WRONG. While an early Radiance is great on Spectre there are games where it's just not viable. Games where the enemy - or your team - is exerting great early pressure are bad games to go Radiance - the former because you won't have space to farm because Radiance is a farming item, and the latter because Spectre can go Urn, grab a casual Point Booster and join in the madness and slaughter.

Times when NOT to go Radiance:

-You had a hard lane and don't have much farm
-You can't get it around 20:00
-The enemy has a ganking team, eg Clinkz, Meepo and the like - if you go Radiance you're going to get fed on once they start roaming your jungle. I've made this mistake and it nearly lost us the game.
-Your team is balling. Get an Urn and go snowball with your amazing midgame!
-Your team needs to fight early. Get cost-efficient tank items and go fight.

Times when to go Radiance:

-It's a passive ricing game.
-The enemy have a defensive lineup.
-Your team can create space without you.
-Your early farm was good.

Uhh... no, no it's not. BoTs on Tinker gives him global farming presence. Radiance on Spectre gives you early teamfight presence and a farming mechanism she naturally lacks. If you're fighting with just a Radiance as Spectre, you're going to feed.

You have to admit that my point is not entirely wrong, when you pick Spectre you should understand that your team is able to create space for you AND they are ok to fight early without you, otherwise you shouldn't be playing it.

I have already stated that you have to TRY to get it before 20:00. It's a farming item that allows you to farm everywhere, jungle, lane, wherever. If you go for early item like early Orb of Venom, Urn of Shadows, Drum of Endurance, or Mask of Madness if you are man enough, will let you fight pretty well because phase+pure damage is really pain during early game. But you can only farm hero with that. Once they started stick together, you will have hard time farming.

My point is whatever happen, try to get Radiance before 20:00. Because it's really good on her. No one ask you to farm passively for 20:00. You can still assist gank with Haunt. And also with common sense you will know that if you can get it in time or not. If you can't, just go for Drum of Endurance and continue with other big items, which is also stated in my item build.

I agree with you, Locket, that in general, getting Radiance at 20 min is a good choice. Not getting it if you can at 20 minutes is situational. The fun thing about Spectre though is that she is in no way dependant on getting that 20 min Radiance! She is very versatile, hence the three possible builds. The Radiance build is also the least fun ;)

I'll qualify this by saying first I'm not a Spectre player...

A Radiance Spectre is a massive pain for the opposition once he/she/it gets additional tanking items. The most annoying thing is Haunt around team fights if you're a Blink Dagger dependent initiator. It also allows you to grab assists or even kills without necessary leaving your farming patch.

However...you're so vulnerable early game with this build. Spectre has an incredibly weak laning phase and needs a lot of babysitting, this build extends that period considerably. The other builds I'd say are almost "recovery" in that your primary build failed, and you decided you needed to do something else - either because of enemy picks, or lack of Radiance gold.

This ^

Radiance is good on Spectre since you can burn down 5 Heroes at once with Haunt. It has nothing to do with Farming. She is NOT Naga Siren or the old version of PL. It's a Mid Game damage Item that is also pretty handy for Disabling Blink Daggers.

The only reason you should get a Radiance on Spectre is to make use of your early lead to Snowball and dominate the Mid game with Relocate.

Travels are Core on Tinker because of the way he can abuse them by constnatly TPing to the fountain for Mana and resetting the Cooldown with Rearm.

Comparatively, Spectre just uses Radiance to chase down Heroes and Disbale Blink Daggers...which a lot of heroes can do. It is a little bit better on her than Heroes like Wraith King or Phoenix, but she can hardly abuse it, snd it's considerably less effective later on in the game, since she can already disable Blink Daggers with Haunt and the Damage doesn't Scale.

However, Dispersion does allow her to abuse any Item that gives her EHP. <}3

I want to know something, how is Radiance has nothing to do with farming? First you have a huge boost on your attack damage, with it you can last hit really well, and clear a wave really fast with the burn. Farm the lane and jungle while waiting for opportunity to Haunt in and kill. In this case durability is not really a big issue because Haunt should always be used as a second initiator, when most of your enemy are crippled or have no much mana left. Getting a drum or manta afterward will makes you tank enough in most situations.

Yes it's powerful mid-game because it can makes every enemy supports flee from the teamfight, leaving their carries vulnerable, also, Reality on fleeing hero to kill them, at this point durability is also not a big issue, that's why rushing Radiance are never be a bad idea.

Yes it will fall of late game and a Satanic can be a good alternative choice to grant you 2 more life. And also it's a reason why it should be bought ASAP.

Spectre is a situational pick, hence you only pick her when you are sure that you can go for Radiance. Otherwise there are better choices than her.

You can do the same thing with a much cheaper Maelstrom on any Hero, clear Waves and Camps with Lightning Procs and benefit from the Attack Speed + Damage.

If you look at Farming alone, Radiance is a terrible Farming Item, takes at least 10 minutes to build, and only Terrorblade and Naga Siren make better use of it than any other "Farming" Item.
