• Use Stifling Dagger to initiate if you trying to go 1v1. You can caught your opponent off guard from his position, slowing him down and hits him with Phantom Strike follow up. In a teamfight, let others initiate first to make sure you stay out of harm.

• This should be the next skill to max out after Stifling Dagger. The properties remains the same at all levels but a leap of 14 seconds to 5 seconds cooldown is huge and should not be overlooked.

• The attack speed bonus only applies to Phantom Strike target victim. If PA changed target, the bonus debuff instantly.

• PA is kind of squishy so you should never initiate in team fights. Let others initiate first and when things get chaotic, that's the moment you jump in using Phantom Strike and take out the most important heroes.

• Blur is the one to follow after maxing out Stifling Dagger and Phantom Strike. However, in some situational conditions you might want to take a point in Blur at level 2 if you suffer a lot of right click harassment.

• The passive nature of this skill helps you a lot in terms of map awareness. You must know when to necessarily farm and when to back off from the enemy creeps if the "blur" effect kicks in and you do not see any enemy heroes in front of you.

• You can also use Blur to detect if there is any invisible heroes roaming around. Keep your eye on the Blur icon at all time and take a note if suddenly it went off screen.

• Although the percentage of evasion is pretty high, do not go balls deep and rushing into the enemy heroes. A proper chain stun nuke damage will still brings you down quickly.

• Normally you would not skill this point at level 6 because the priority are on Stifling Dagger and Phantom Strike. Your poor attack speed and damage output at the early game makes this ineffective as well but if you want to go for it, it is certainly not a taboo.

• Basically, the best phase to level up this skill is around level 10 to 12, where the mid game starts to kick in with your core items up.

• With 15% chance of critical proc which is noticeably low, pure luck becomes a little bit of the component when playing as PA. If luck is not on your side, there is always anoher game to rip people apart.

• Tango A set of tango should be suffice to sustain PA in the early stage. If you are expecting excessive nuke/right click harassment, grab a Salve as precaution.

• Iron Branch The early two iron branches gives extra stats for PA, providing her with extra HP and MP. It can also be converted into Magic Wand as well if preferable.

• Ring of Basilius If there is no support heroes on your team that can provide mana regeneration such as Keeper of the Light or Crystal Maiden, this item should be good keep your mana pool suffice. Otherwise, feel free to skip this item.

• Power Treads Switching between each attributes helps you to survive in your lane. Switch to STR for increased HP, INT for casting Stiffling Dagger and AGI for some damage, armor or using consumables. The additional attack speed is almost necessary for more DPS.

• Medallion of Courage An item that goes through magic immunity without no mana cost required. The armor reduction that you inflict on the enemy is the same as Desolator, which comes at approximately 3K gold cheaper. This makes PA very viable early stage, where she can take down squishy supports extremely easy. Useful for taking down Roshan as well.

• Maelstrom Increase the speed of your farm during midgame. It's also notably useful if you can AFK farm for certain period of time while your teammates provides map cover. Adds magic damage to your right click attack for more DPS. The sweetest part is it ignores damage block item such as Vanguard.

• Skull Basher Useful for locking down heroes that are problematic in team fights; or for heroes that has escape mechanism in their arsenal. Notable examples are Anti Mage, Queen of Pain and Nature's Prophet. This also applys to heroes that purchase Blink Dagger as well.

• Yasha An all rounded item mid game purchase for PA. Provides additional attack speed, movement speed and damage. Makes the run and chase game for the fleeing enemy effortless, combined with the usage of Stiffling Dagger.

• Black King Bar PA is pretty much useless if she can't stay alive in big team fights. If you are lock-down and dead within seconds, you just wasted your immense right click damage potential. Remember, position 1 PA is to survive chaos and clean up all the mess. Be wary though that certain spells pierce through BKB. Notable examples are Fiend's Grip and Chronosphere.

• Helm of the Dominator Helps you to dominate creeps and stacks for more often, without having PA herself to be at the exact location. Dominating Alpha Wolf provides an aura that buff your base damage that stacks with other damage auras. The amount of 15% lifesteal gives your better survivability in team fights; combined with the usage of BKB.

• Mjollnir The upgrade from earlier mid game progression items provides additional +55 attack speed, increased damage and number of bounces for Chain Lightning proc. Furthermore, it has active ability that let you put Static Charge on yourself or teammates, dealing 200 damage to the enemy that attacked you/them.

• Abyssal Blade Provides extra +60 damage and Overwhelm active abilities. Overwhelm pierce through magic immunity and imperative to lock-down enemy carry, effectively removed them from the hectic team-fight for two seconds.

• Boots of Travel The situation may get demanding if it past 60 minutes mark. This is where Boots of Travel will come in handy. It removed the remedy of having Town Portal Scroll, which literally free up one precious slot for having another crucial items. It helps you teleport to allied units; enables you to push back the creep wave that come closer to the T3/T4 towers.

Take a deep breath and watch an over 2K of critical strike obliterate your enemy at the blink of an eye. Be extremely careful not to blink into the fights and dead in no matter of time because Divine Rapier will drop; wasting 6000 gold off the bat

• Phase Boots Compared to the first position safelane build, you can opt for Phase Boots instead of Power Treads if the opposing enemy teams doesn't have myriad of burst damage or multiple overlapping stuns/hexes. Your overall DPS when reaching end game undeniably lacking but since this position two build is aiming on controlling midgame, the required attack speed is less detrimental with the help of Phantom Strike.

• Vladmir's Offering Excellent all around item to have for PA in the long run. Provides lifesteal, mana regen and armor. In addition, it stacks with other orb effects because it is not a unique attack modifier. If there is none of your teammates purchase this, you should absolutely go for it (unless you are position one which Satanic is without doubt a better choice).

• Desolator In all respects, Desolator is an amazing cost effective damage item if you can farm this fast just before reaching midgame. Combined with the Medallion build, you can pretty much roam around the map and caught squishy supports off guard by technically one shot kill them if the crits proc. In addition to having Vladmir's Offering in your inventory, you can unquestionably solo Roshan without any effort at all.

• Monkey King Bar If the enemy has/or will have evasion sooner or later, grab Monkey King Bar as your big DPS item. Notable examples are Brewmaster's Drunken Brawler, Windranger's Windrun or heroes that has Butterfly/Heaven's Halberd/Talisman of Evasion in their inventory slot.

Crystalys/Daedalus: These items in no mean are bad items for PA. Assuming you have these in your inventory, the critical proc on Crystalys/Daedalus and Coup de Grace will still occur at a different rate. The reason these items are ineffective were because although the chances are higher, it only crits for 1.75x/2.4x relatively. In the mean time PA naturally have 15% crits peaking at a freaking 4.5x! Getting these items mean you are wasting your slot for a better potential items.

Shadow Blade: On paper, this item might seems appealing with +22 damage and +30 attack speed, coupled with Shadow Walk to go invisible. Shadow Walk as an offensive maneuver is a waste in my opinion. You does not need to backstab the enemy because you have Phantom Strike to get close in the face and slap immature *****es. As a defensive maneuver, using Shadow Walk to escape is just totally average, especially in high level competitive matches. If the opposing sides have detection items, see you in the afterlife.

Radiance: Although I have to admit that Radiance is such a great item for melee carry heroes such as Phantom Lancer, Lone Druid and Doom; I personally think Radiance would not do much to PA. The damage that it provides is certainly great plus the burn damage helps a lot to flash farm. For some reason, even if PA rush for the Radiance build, it does not provide her the attack speed and survivability that she crucially needed. It gets even worst if PA try to farm this and die within the 15-20 minutes in, which is disastrous that hurt your team a lot.

Butterfly: This item is a dream for any agility carry heroes simply because it is one of the best late game items. Unfortunately, that is not the case when it comes to PA. The +30 agility, damage and attack speed are what makes this item deadly, but even though evasion now does stacks diminishingly, its still doesn't do justice for PA because the difference is negligible. You can read more about evasion stacks HERE. Under very rare circumstances that the opposing teams has only one physical damage, doesn't get an MKB and doesn't have any lockdown, then Butterfly is viable.

Ethereal Blade: On the first look, this item gives some nice strength and intelligence plus the +40 agility is great on heroes that has agility as their main attribute. PA have some nice agility gain per level but what makes this item suck on PA? Just one. She does not have high magical damage nuke that can act as a follow up from Ether Blast compared to that shotgun Morphling or Dagon's Nyx Assassin. The manacost on Ether Blast is high as well in the recent patch, and PA does not have large mana pool to sustain. Also, who needs extra nuke damage when you have Coup de Grace? You can just "boom shakalaka!" in an instant without spending any mana.

Hood of Defiance: Theoretically, PA cannot withstand with high damage nuke. This item at first glance seems great with some HP regeneration and an additional 30% magic resistance. However in a long term duration, this item does not scale well into late game for PA where BKB is superior. Just leave this item for the support heroes to grab. They can upgrade it into Pipe of Insight for breaching high ground as well.

Shiva's Guard: If you need armor to sustain, it is better for you to grab an Assault Cuirass instead of Shiva's Guard. You are not an initiator that will jump in into team fights and cast Artic Blast. There are better initiators that will make a good use of this item such as Brewmaster, Dark Seer or Earthshaker.

Bloodstone: No, just no. PA is a carry, but not a bloodstone carry. Storm Spirit, Leshrac and Death Prophet are just some notable examples of bloodstone carries. Stifling Dagger and Phantom Strike only use so little mana. The 200% mana regeneration is not necessary at all. The Bloodpact passive ability might reduce gold lost and respawn time but it is just mediocre. You can just use buyback if necessary.

Mask of Madness: This item gives you lifesteal and +100 attack speed and 30% movement speed when you activate Berserk. Sounds great? The downside to this is that you take extra 30% damage in return. As if you are not squishy enough, this item will definitely makes you like a peanut butter. You will get stream rolled faster than Usain Bolt sprinting speed.

Diffusal Blade: It provides some nice agility and intelligence but the effectiveness does not suits PA. The feedback orb effect is just meh and the active Ability Purge is negated because PA already has Stifling Dagger with lower cooldown, wider cast range and longer slow duration. Heroes with illusions can make a good use of this item far better than PA does in general.

Black King Bar: It provides you with +24 damage plus a little bit of extra HP. The reason that this item is so popular in high level competitive play especially among the Chinese is because it grants 10 seconds magic immunity for the first purchase. The duration is huge and for squishy hero like PA that cannot withstand several nukes coming in her way, without a doubt this is the core item of choice to go for.

Linken's Sphere: It provides +15 to all stats, +6 HP regeneration, 150% mana regeneration and a spellblock every 17 seconds which is quite nice for PA. If the opposing team does not have too many chain stuns or disables, you might want to go for this item. The spellblock is great for negating the most dangerous nuke that might be initiated on you. If not it is preferable to go for a BKB instead.

Vladmir's Offering: The lifesteal that you gained from this is not an orb effect so it opens some room for you to pick another orb effect item if you desired to do so. This item is also meant for pushing because of the aura that it provides to nearby allies. Personally, I think that this is a good item if your team is employing for split push strategy. In team fights it does not do much. If somebody in your team already purchased this, avoid it as the aura does not stack. Otherwise, feel free to go for it.

Satanic: Compared to Vladmir's Offering, Satanic on the other hand provides you with lots of HP; which Mortred lacks plus some damage and armor to the mix. Although a bit pricey, Satanic is the item to go for in order to participate and survive in team fights, and trust me it is worth it. There is nothing scarier than a carry like PA that is nearly dying suddenly comes back to full health with that 175% lifesteal and turn things around single handedly. If split pushing is not part of your strategy, Satanic is the real deal.

Power Treads: This boots provides you attack speed and a very nifty attribute manipulation. If you want more HP, switch to Strength version or if you are looking for some mana, switch to Intelligence instead. This boots is acceptable for PA in the long term because of its versatility.

Phase Boots: This boots does not provides you the attack speed but for exchange it does give you some damage and "Phase" active ability to increase your movement speed and ignore unit pathing. I personally prefer the Phase Boots over Power Treads because it allows you to chase or flee more effectively. It also allows you to move faster between camps to camps in the jungle.

Tranquil Boots: This boots is the cheapest compared to all other boots available. The nice thing about this boots is that it can be disassembled later on, allowing you to convert the Ring of Protection and Ring of Regeneration into other items like Ring of Aquila, Ring of Basilius or Vladmir's Offering. The "Heal" active ability ensures your survivability as well. Go for this boots if you have hard time early on in the laning stage.

Arcane Boots: This boots gives you extra +250 Mana and the active ability replenish 135 mana within your 600 radius. Unless you are crazy, never go for this boots at all. PA does not have any mana problem, even if she get mana burned away by the enemy. Leave this boots for another Intelligence support heroes. They will gain benefit from it more than you do.

Boots of Travel: Simply the late game boots of choice. If you are farming out of control like the Chinese carry player and feel confident enough to have triple buybacks, sell your boots and get this instead. It will get rid of the need to carry a TP scroll which will definitely save some space for you to get another items. In addition, it will also helps you to teleport to any lanes that were getting pushed into your base.

Ghost Scepter: PA is notorious for her right click damage that can take down support heroes quickly. In this case; especially late game the ethereal form is the best solution for the enemy heroes to prevent you from auto attacking them to death. They do not bother at all about additional magic damage from you because you do not have any powerful nuke at your disposal. When they activate this, you have no choice but to change target to another heroes; meanwhile giving those enemy support to buy a little bit of time to stay in the fight and cast their disable on you.

Ethereal Blade: This item work just the same as Ghost Scepter in general, except for the fact that it converts both you and the enemy hero into ethereal form. It is true that they cannot auto attack you either, but a precaution has to be taken care of because normally heroes who purchased this has lots of points for their primary attribute and high damage nuke as well. They do not mind converting into ethereal form due to the follow up option that they have after Ether Blast. On the other hand, you does not so just pray that you will not be instagib.

Heaven's Halberd: Another set of item that will render PA useless, due to the Disarm active ability. You literally cannot right click anything when you were disarmed for 3 seconds (melee), thus you are not as scary and problematic in team fights. With a cast range of 600 and cooldown of 30 seconds, a good player will catch you off guard when you were blinking into someone to attack. If you can survive during the 3 seconds duration with spells flying around you, you might get another chance slicing and dicing. Else, then no more crits fun for you.

Monkey King Bar: As good as this item provides you with the attack speed and damage that rack up your Coup de Grace proc chance and critical damage, it also can be one of your worst nightmare. If the enemy heroes grab this, you will definitely get hurt a lot. Your 50% evasion means nothing as they are just numbers. To avoid this keep a good tab on the enemy heroes inventory slot every couple of minutes. If they have a naked Demon Edge, they will probably will go for it because it is unlikely for them to purchase a Divine Rapier or Daedalus (except they already have Crystalys of course). The reason is obvious; they want to treat you with a dinner

Decrepify: Pugna somewhow is one of the gay element to Phantom Assassin. He does not favour auto attack heroes. His Decrepify at max level will prevent you from auto attacking for 3.5 seconds with 6 seconds cooldown, which similar to getting disabled by the sheepstick. If the Pugna player is godlike, he can kite around the team fights to buy some extra 3 seconds while surviving in order to get his Decrepify back online. Then he can disable you again and again with 40% amplified magic damage chain nukes landing unto you. Good luck assassin; may the force be with you.

Last Word: Since the recent 6.76 remake on Silencer's Last Word which now is an active skill ability, this could pose some problem to PA if not handled properly. When Last Word is casted on you, it forced PA to cast a spell which are either Stifling Dagger or Phantom Strike, which means that you have to throw one of them randomly so that PA will not be disarmed. At max level the 6 seconds duration of disarm is not a joke. It totally shuts down PA from right clicking at all in team fights.

Deafening Blast: In the current meta Invoker was only picked occasionally due to the base damage nerf that hurts the Quas-Wex build, forcing him to pick up an early skill point on Exort in order to compensate. Nonetheless, if you have Invoker on the enemy team while playing as PA; make sure to be extra careful in a team fight. His wide array of spells and disable and specifically the Deafening Blast, will disarm you and hurts you quite a lot. Deafening Blast will prevent you from right clicking but his other nine spell will send you to hell.

Nature's Attendants Heals Enchantress and any friendly units nearby.
This skillset synergize well with PA because of the fact that she is relatively squishy in the early laning phase. PA can stand a few harassment quite well but if a few high damage nuke comes in her way, she will not sustain in order to keep her farm going.
Impetus Deal additional damage based on how far away the target is.
This is a combination for a very offensive maneuver in order to catch up and kill fleeing heroes. At max level, Stifling Dagger with 4 seconds 50% slow is devastating enough for the Enchantress to throw her pure damage Impetus which hurts alot.

Shallow Grave Cannot die while under its protection.
Since PA is a melee carry that needs to get close to her opponent in order to deal damage, but at the same time it can be a disaster as well if things went wrong because in a team fights she will be the target to focus down. Due to her squishy nature, Shallow Grave will definitely come in handy which protect her from death within 5 seconds.
Shadow Wave Heals several allies.
Just like Enchantress, Dazzle would definitely make a great babysitter for PA. He can provide you heal which lets you farm more freely, or be aggressive at a certain times without worrying on losing your health too much. The cooldown on this is great as well.
weave Weave Increase/Reduce armor.
In a team fight, this ultimate will make PA an extremely high threat hero to the opposing team if landed correctly. The armor reduction will significantly increased PA right click damage output. Assuming if you also have a Desolator in your inventory, you can pretty much took down the support heroes in a few click especially when Coup De Grace proc.

Empower Gives an allied unit bonus damage and cleave on attack.
PA is feared for her ability to dish out an opponent in a single strike if the critical procs. What makes her even scarier in team fights? Cleave AOE damage. Coupled with the cleave that you gain from Battlefury, Magnus Empower will enhance it even further. Clumping up is not a good idea for the enemy, or should I say; a breeze team wipe?
Reverse Polarity Suck all nearby enemies and stunning them.
Reverse Polarity; the best friend forever of Empower, the heart of a team fight. A properly executed Reverse Polarity and Empower will definitely smells death for the opposing team. Reverse Polarity clearly is one of the best ultimate in the game. Combined with Phantom Strike from PA, the 3.75 seconds stun is more than enough to inflict pain.

Purification Heals a friendly unit and damages all nearby enemy units.
The skill provides the same effect as Enchantress and Dazzle does in general which is crucial for PA's health but this one comes with a little touch; it damages the nearby unit as well. Think of this as a simultaneous offensive and defensive approach which can be apply while laning.
Repel Grants magic immunity.
If Omniknight will ever become the most gracious babysitters for PA, the reason will be the existence of this skill. The weakness of PA is high damage nuke, and what counters nuke? That's right baby magic immunity does. A PA with a BKB is a force to reckon with but with Omniknight side by side, it gets even better. You will get a free 12 seconds magic immunity at max level of Repel which is enormous for you to freely slicing and dicing around in team fights.

Electric Vortex Pulls an enemy unit to Storm Spirit's location.
A high damage nuke might give a chance for PA to escape and lives on the edge but not in this case. Eletric Vortex will hold you in place for 2.5 seconds and within that period Storm Spirit will beat the **** out of you. It becomes even worst if he brings some unfriendly heroes along with him to join the fun.
Ball Lightning Charging across the battlefield.
The signature move of Storm Spirit, and a deadly one as well. Storm Spirits redefined "Escape Artist" but in an offensive situation where you are the one who will run for your life. He does not care. He will chase you until the last wishes of your life. Every time he cast this he will trigger Overload that deal bonus damage on every right click. As PA death in the hands of Storm Spirit is not really worth an honor to remember.

Static Link Steal damage from the target and giving it to Razor.
One of the most deceptive yet very powerful anti-carries skillsket that sends all hard carry heroes back to their holes. Razor truly loathes right click damage. For PA her damage is the tool that makes her a bullet train damage dealer but Razor disagrees. In other words, he does not like 4 digits critical fun. He stole and keep it to himself. Even if your critical procs, in only tickles him; just like the small neutrals camp did.
unstable current Unstable Current Abilities targeted on him are countered with an instant purge.
Apart from right click damage, Razor seems to hate people pointing on him relentlessly. As PA you want to get up close to the opponent face and smacks them down by using Phantom Strike. In this case Razor will always welcomes you with open arms. As a guest you will be served with Static Link as an appreciation and your name will be scorched in the Book of the Dead.

Disruption Banish the targeted unit and create two illusions.
Presumably with a full 6 slots Tier 4 items inventory on PA, you might laugh on how Shadow Demon is just a "Food Demon" as a whole. This demonologist is the master of Chinese proverb, which as the saying goes "your worst enemy is yourself". His sorcery will bring out the hollow puppets of you and inflict extreme torture. And no, the reality is that you are not suiciding. He earned the cash from your hard work farming all day.
soul catcher Soul Catcher Curses a random enemy in an area to take increased damage.
There is no worst scenario that you can ever imagine if this demon is lurking around on the field. Apparently he feels that his puppets were not fun enough to his liking. Needless to say he decided to implement some flavour to his recipe by the name of "Soul Ketchup". The result is? Puppets with overflowing drugs adrenaline that rips apart the dishes plate which cause the Sisters of the Veil to avoid the kitchen at all cost.

Doom Disable spells casting, items usage and passive abilities.
Doom once make a press statement that he might not look like a true fan of Black Metal without all the corpse paint but rest assured, he has such a deep understandings on the ideology behind it. Dwelling for too long in the Seven Hells, he wants somebody to accompany his loneliness. He conducts a ritual with Mortred and she does not ever come back since, leaving all her skill sets behind.

• In this VOD EG's Jeyo is taking the role as the Phantom Assassin. He went for the offlane-trilane alongside with Maelk's Undying and Bdiz's Venomancer.

• In this VOD aL's Sony is taking the role as the Phantom Assassin. He went for the offlane alongside with ComeWithMe's Rubick and Mania's Enigma roaming in the enemy jungle. This maneuver force Black's Anti-Mage to switch lane.

He went for the Battlefury build, and in the end the items follow up in his inventory slot were Black King Bar, Helm of the Dominator, Manta Style and Monkey King Bar. Sony were 22/2/8 at the end of the game. Anti-Mage really did not stand a chance.

• In this VOD NaVi's XBOCT is taking the role as the Phantom Assassin. He went for the safe lane with the classic Ars-Art's Leshrac babysitting him.

• SexyBamboe's Chaos Knight and 1437's Ancient Apparition were really giving XBOCT a hard time in the offlane. After Phase Boots he opt to go for Vanguard first. After that he try to get his Black King Bar up as soon as possible to participate in team fights.

• In this VOD No Tidehunter's Loda is taking the role as the Phantom Assassin. He went for the offlane with Akke's Lina and EGM's Nyx Assassin roaming in the enemy jungle.

• Noticed how Stifling Dagger can be very useful to slow down fleeing heroes which nets some easy kills. It also shows that with good positioning and decision making, PA can hits like a bullet train with only Phase Boots, Battlefury and Helm of the Dominator.

• In this VOD Secret's Arteezy is taking the role as the Phantom Assassin. He went for the safelane with Kuroky's Lion. These combinations proved quite troublesome for Niqua's offlane Clockwerk; getting picked off few times in the laning phase.

• In this VOD Empire's Resolut1on is taking the role as the Phantom Assassin. He went for the midlane with ALOHADANCE's Wisp. Wisp skillset provided a very good mana regenration for PA, which enables Resolut1on to spam Stiffling Dagger to debuff Templar Assassins's Refraction from Dendi.

• Resolut1on went for the Battlefury build. The followed item were BKB and Assault Cuirass, particularly to withstand burst damage from TA and Gyro. Near the 49 minutes mark, the item choice of Linken Sphere proved to be worthy for soft countering Bane's Fiend's Grip which allowed PA to continue slicing and dicing.

• At about 56 minutes mark, Resolut1on has about 6k gold but didn't spent it elsewhere including on buyback; because Empire wants to end the game by focusing on the throne. In the end he was 12/6/16.

• In this VOD C9's EternalEnvy is taking the role as the Phantom Assassin. He went for the midlane and this is one of the very uncommon examples of PA with Bottle build; having a very breeze early game with kills and making transition into Battlefury at 13 minutes mark. Yeah you heard it. It's "13 minutes mark"
