Hi Everyone, I'm Hastecharger and this is my second guide here on Dota Fire.
I’ve been playing Phantom Assassin for years 2k plus games, and over time, I’ve tested just about every playstyle you can think of. But with the changes in 7.39c, something really clicked — the Stifling Dagger + Sweet Release combo finally feels like it has real potential, not just as a gimmick, but as a core strategy to go insane.
This guide is built around that idea: stacking daggers, playing with timing, and turning every kill into chain damage. It’s a fun, aggressive playstyle that rewards good decision-making and awareness. If you enjoy dominating lanes without overcommitting, and want to control the flow of fights with constant dagger pressure — this build is for you.
I put this together after dozens of games experimenting with item timings, creep wave abuse, and release dagger positioning. It's meant to help you understand how to get the most value out of each dagger, not just for farming, but for outplaying.
Appreciate you taking the time to read — hope it helps you take your Mortred game to the next level.
Hope you enjoy
1- Focused on Stifling Dagger + Sweet Release synergy.
2- Designed for players who prefer aggressive, high-tempo gameplay once deso/battlefury comes online.
3- Works best in mid lane or safelane with support cover. I prefer to go for battlefury instead of deso in safelane. Although if you want to come online faster, go for deso, but be ready for many problems.
4- Capitalizes on creep kills and dagger stack bursts in skirmishes.
- Starting:
Tango, Quelling Blade, Slippers of Agility, 1x Branch, Faerie Fire
- Early Game:
Orb of Corrosion (great dagger value considering the slows and armor reduction), Phase Boots, Wraith Band
- Core:
Battle Fury or Desolator(depends on enemy lineup), Black King Bar(survival),Satanic (sustain), Aghanims Shard, Bloodthorn(Silence & true Strike + add dmg of every hit at the end)
Situational:
Manta Style(basic dispel), Sange & Yasha (Survival), Abyssal Blade (control), Nullifier (vs. Ghost Scepter/utility)
Luxury:
MKB, Aghanims Scepter(Fan of Knives | Passive break), Daedalus, Butterfly (for late scaling)
Level 10: -1.5s Stifling Dagger cd(for Sweet Release impact)
Level 15: +15% dmg for Stifling Dagger
Level 20: +200 Cast range for Blink (Increases capabilities to escape & kill)
Level 25: Triple Stifling Dagger (core for dagger-based builds)
- Pros:
Constant pressure with daggers.
Can be the hardest carry given the set tempo has been achieved.
Safer farming with Sweet Release procs.
Great lane harass potential.
Scales into late game with items.
- Cons:
Easy to Burst without supps or bkb around
Struggles vs. high burst or silences.
Less effective if team falls behind early or cant adapt to aggressive playstyle
Farm from range with dagger spam if lane has strong melee & range opponents.
Stack jungle camps and clear with dagger + Battle Fury.
Jungle safely with Blur and Sweet Release triggers.
If going 2 wraith bands, take advantage and keep your deny game strong.
Always try to aggro creeps and be mindful of your and your supps position in lane if needed to blink out.
If the lane is pushed out, try to eat a creep the small creep camp in the rivers of both dire or radiant and get back in lane.
Always remember, if the enemies are showing, farm towards their end, if not, farm towards base or towers so your team can respond.
