Can we discuss this mana item thing for a bit. Everyone is mentioning Arcanes and mana items and such, but I really feel like they're not necessary. Unless you're in one of thos weird three minute siege situations where you're just hurling spells at each other than backing off (rinse. repeat), then I think mana isn't an issue. The build in my original post worked perfectly for me.

I'd rather get better mana items than Urn of Shadows and spam Cold Embrace and Splinter Blast.

Well Urn works well when you have a team that can get kills. Thus charges to use to heal allies. I usually go urn into mek on most of my supports when we don't have a good urn carrier just due to the heal charges. Thus keeping the push going.

She seems designed to be played in lane with a melee strength carry.

I think there is a GREAT synergy between Winter Wyvern and Faceless Void. Void opens with a Chronosphere, and then Wyvern can either slow and chase with Q or just use her own ult and hold an enemy in place for Void to clean up later. She also has the capacity to save with E, and then fire off her Arcane Boots (if that's your fancy) to allow a mana-starved Void an escape route.

I see WW as a great lane support. Her mid potential is actually ok, but others fit the mid role much better.

Just theorycrafting:

I don't think Soul Ring and Arcane Boots as necessary.
Why hasn't anyone said anything about Power Treads? It gives HP on Str, and for the tiny mana problems you may have, Tread Switching will help.

What about Eul's Scepter of Divinity? It gives all the mana regen you need, and has a great active.

As with hero combinations, any hero that re-positions the enemy is great. WW's Arctic Burn allows safe harassing and can be used to protect melee carries.

No mana problems? You have to max Splinter Blast and spam the **** out of it. Maxing Arctic Burn first is not beneficial. It's good to max it second though.

Early on though does that not just push the wave? Surely Arctic Burn is better for lane harass, while maintaining creep equilibrium.

What are your thoughts for potential matchup strengths/weaknesses?

If I'm Winter Wyvern I don't want to see: Nyx Assassin, Silencer, or even Keeper of the Light. She seems like a bad choice against a team that has a lot of silences.

Ancient Apparition is another bad enemy since his Ice Blast can take away your E during a teamfight.

You'll never get a Black King Bar to stop this, so what are your other options in terms of build? What is the course of action if you're countered in lane?

Use it on the remaining ranged creep when they get closed to last hit the last melee. Guaranteed hit on both enemies, and then you might even follow up with the burn (since it deals the same damage at all levels) for a pottential kill.

I think a mobility item would be a must for her at some point in her item progression. Probably Force Staff since it gives her more mana. But being able to jump in and save with Cold Embrace, and initiate/counter initiate with Winter's Curse sounds really good.

So maybe like Urn of Shadows into Eul's Scepter of Divinity/ Force Staff. I'm kinda iffy on Eul's, because it doesn't synergise that well with her skill set. It's a great item, but I'd prefer to see her have some sense of synergy with it when buying it as a support?

I'm still thinking about when in a game she shines best as a support. She's got good in-lane harrass between Q and W, good depush with W as well (The cast range on W is a little bit crazy. I think she's actually one of the best depushers against creep spam around. Maybe the best given she doesn't have the channel time Illuminate does?). But her Q and E scale pretty well? As does R, given it gets better as enemy heroes do.

I want to think of her as like a support to go with hard carry's like Spectre, Medusa and Anti-Mage given she can bail them out at low health with E, and is a really strong in lane harasser? But I don't think that's a smart idea, given it takes most of your DPS out for a few seconds?

I dunno what to make of her

Since you just can't have enough Chaos Breaker.

Yesterday, I played two games AGAINST a Winter Wyvern.. Here is my take on the hero:

1. Strong laning phase..

2. Extremely powerful in early/mid game teamfights.. I was playing a Drow Ranger, and I completely wrecked the Lion that was on my team, thanks to Winter's Curse. I pretty much two shot my Lion (I was level 12 and he was ~8-9), and we lost the resulting 4v5.

3. Totally awesome against strong right clickers, especially Meepo. Had a WW in my game last night, where our team also had a Meepo. All she had to do was Winter's Curse an ally, and all the Meepos would burst that ally down, resulting in a 4v5 again.
