So you know there is the Valves recommended items list on Dota 2, well what are your favourite items which aren't on that list? Mine is Force Staff on Crystal Maiden. So useful for escape and positioning the ultimate, really should be on core I think.

no Maelstrom or Mjollnir on Nature's Prophet. So useful for going through creepwaves when solo pushing.
There's no earthy way of knowing which direction we are going. There's no knowing where we're rowing, or which way the river's flowing. Is it raining, is it snowing? Is a hurricane a-blowing? Not a speck of light is showing, so the danger must be growing. Are the fires of Hell a-glowing? Is the grisly Reaper mowing?! YES! The danger must be growing! For the rowers keep on rowing! And there's certainly not showing ANY SIGNS THAT THEY ARE SLOWING!

Hit that Rep button, you know you want to.

Force Staff isn't listed as a core item on Crystal Maiden? Man that sounds wrong, the hero is pretty much unplayable without it! Either force or blink, but you need at least one!

Here's a few unconventional things I like :

- Eul's Scepter of Divinity on Omniknight. Well Euls is such a good item that I make it on every support now, but on Omni, man is it good. It allows you to go faster (Omni is all about movement speed), it solves all your mana issues, and the active allows you to lift up a guy, walk up to him, and catch him in Degen Aura so he can't escape.

- Necronomicon on Tinker : I know, you can't Rearm it. Still, it's incredibly good. The big problem about Tinker is that he can clear creeps but he can't push down towers. Necro fixes this problem completely. With his global presence + necrobook...it's pretty devastating. A million times better than useless Manta Style - who makes manta on heroes with no right click anyways?.

- Rod of Atos on Clinkz. Who doesn't like a spammable slow on a hero with no disable? Soul ring/Atos Clinkz instead of orchid new meta :P

- Butterfly on Puck. Just because :)

Valve's suggested items simply aren't very good in many cases.

Force is good on nearly every hero that's not a carry, but unless you're Bat/Clock/Sky/OD/Silencer it's just a poor man's blink.

The omissions that jump out at me are Beast/Earthshaker (no soulring listed), and Clock (mek/blademail not listed, while vanguard is core)

Most of Valve's item lists are outdated. After a hero is out for awhile people start using new items on them that aren't in the original suggestions, but over time they generally make their way in there.

For example, Force Staff is good on almost every single utility/intelligence hero. Blink Dagger is amazing on Juggernaut and other heroes, but is usually only mentioned on initiators. Same with Soul Ring on a lot of strength heroes.

Probably Shiva's Guard and Ethereal Blade on Faceless Void. Shiva's will just wreck the enemy with the slow because Void is so high damage and Ethereal is awesome for teamfights and the bonus agility is insane.

Totally, Shivas + Chronosphere is a rather good combination, and very easy to complete!
