Introduction

Hey there,
First of all i want to apologise for possible grammar mistakes because im from Germany.
This is my first guide and i want to show you how i like to play Shadow Fiend.
I do not play DotA 2 that long but i have several years DotA 1 experience.
This guide is meant for more experienced players because it relies heavily on farm and you dont buy any early game DMG items.
Shadow Fiend has a high skill cap. I think he's one of the harder heroes if played correctly. He's strong in every phase of the game and can make a lot of pressure early on with his Necromastery. He's also one of the best heroes if u want to learn how to farm because he gets damage with creep kills and denies.

Items

Ok, items.. hm. Shadow Fiend is not as item dependent as you might think.
I start off with 3x Iron Branch, 1x Magic Stick, 1x Tango and 1x Healing Salve. As i said earlier SF or Nevermore is a hero who needs a lot of farm. If you farm very well he gets alot of DMG so you dont rly need to buy 1x Wraith Band first so you can farm the first 5 creeps better. I generally like Magic Stick on many heroes because
it can:

1. Give you enough health to survive tower or hero attack or any other damage source.
2. Can give you enough mana to bring out that last Shadowraze to get an kill.

Also. If ur team isn't that good you can buy yourself an Animal Courier because he's neccessary to bring you ur items and still farm ur lane.

When you have 1100 gold buy a Bottle and Boots of Speed.

Your first big item now will be Boots of Travel. I think they are the best boots on SF because you are so ****ing mobil with them and can gank alot on every lane in seconds.

Next Item will be the Black King Bar. After that get an Blink Dagger.
I know most ppl buy Shadow Blade.. which isn't a bad thing... in public games.
If you play vs. higher skilled players Shadow Blade is easy countered by Gem of True Sight or Dust of Appearance to name a few. And the CD of Shadow Blade is damn high. Also you can land your Requiem of Souls better with Blink Dagger because sometimes you dont have that much time to just walk in and hope they are still positioned as ****.

Ok, some ppl do not agree with me on this next item - Scythe of Vyse - but i think it's really strong on almost any hero. You can take out 1 hero completely for a few seconds which is most of the time enough to finish them especially with our next item Desolator. Scales extremely nice with Presence of the Dark Lord.

For our last item sell your Bottle and buy Butterfly. One of the best item on any AGI hero. Evasion, AS and lots of DMG.

Pros / Cons

Pros
  • Very strong early, mid and late game
  • Requiem of Souls can turn an teamfight instantly
  • Looks ****ing cool
  • Not very item dependant
Cons
  • Very squishy
  • If he dies he looses alot of damage
  • High skill cap

Summary

So this was a short guide for my fav. hero - Shadow Fiend -

I hope you enjoyed it and maybe it will help some of you :)
Eventually i'll upload 1 or 2 videos of me playing him that way.

Good Luck and Have Fun!
