Nobody mentioned Spectre?

Depends on circumstances, equal farm? Anti-Mage kills himself attacking her. Spectre is a much harder carry, considering she can teamwipe the opposition with their own attacks potentially
Step 1: Pick Bristleback
Step 2: type in all chat:"GL hf"
Step 3: solo offlane
Step 4: first blood triple kill solo vs trilane

Step 8: alternate games with Slark pick

Saying that enemies will kill themselves by attacking Spectre isn't right, because they would need to have like <1000 HP everyone, and they should stack around her to do so. What farmed Spectre does is kill supports/initiators that are standing away from fight with Radiance and Desolate, not allowing for any blink initiation from enemy team and making the fight 3v5. Then your supports/initiators come, keeping disables on most important heroes, like Anti-Mage. No1 will ever die just from attacking spectre, unless she's 6 slotted in 30 minutes and enemy have no items, it's just mathematically NOT POSSIBLE.

I think your friends need some sense knocked into them ;)

All heroes have a counter hero, and have strong points and weak points. This is how Dota 2 works. AM is not the best carry, nor is he the worst. In Dota you can't say that this hero is the best, because it's all based on preference. I might like AM better than Medusa, but that doesn't mean he is the best. So if your friends won't believe that AM isn't the best carry, show them. Invite them to a server and 1v1. Pick a good counter hero and prove them wrong :)

Amen.

AM's not a hard carry at all, he's a very fast farmer and a splitpusher who wins by being able to farm bfury+manta+heart in 25 minutes. He's incredibly weak without a major gold advantage.

It's happened, ironically in a pro game, Xboct got lifted by a Rubick and they all stacked around him and attacked..and two died from dispersion alone. Cloud 9 vs Navi SL8 or 9 but mathematics can suck it, it's a video game

That aside, to the OP. To beat an Anti-Mage, early aggressiveness, explain this to your friends. If AM doesn't get a timely battlefury (12-14min or less, if bad lane aim for <20min) than he is quite shut down. Aggressive lineups seize map control early and pretty much take away his safety net in the jungle, and essentially contain his slit pushing keeping the waves back and killing towers.

Fyi, this works wonders against most Hard Carries since they can't fight early on. Just be careful though since Mana Break does hurt, even at lvl2, but a good triple Ranged Tri-Lane should easily make an AM cry, e.g. Mirana + Rubick + Anciet Apparition, a.k.a. the Xyrus Lane >8{D

A friend and I calculated; a 6-slotted Spectre has about 10000 EHP, factoring in armour, Dispersion, base HP, and Butterfly evasion. It's pretty gnarly. Compare that to supports, usually with about 1500HP, and if Dispersion doesn't kill you Haunt almost certainly will.
There are two kinds of people in the world; those who can count, and those who can't.
