His first skill Wild Axes not only breaks trees (which becomes SOOOOOO useful) but does good damage.

His second skill, Call of the Wild gives the team a free MOVING ward and a great ranged slow.

Inner Beast gives him and all allies (including summons) a good attack speed bonus.

And Primal Roar gives him a great initiation and ganking tool which has a 30 second cool down with aghs!

I like to build arcanes into necro 3 into aghs into whatever I need for the situation.

He's a fun and useful hero and I wanna know why people don't play him :(

I like Beastmaster but dont thing people play him much because...

- He's not really a carry or a support

- You kinda have to play him mid or offlane, but he doesn't really dominate either. Being melee, the lack of an escape (aside tankiness) and an expensive ranged nuke makes him a bit tricky to play offlane

- Requires some micro skills to play properly

He does fill several roles well, but bit jack of all trades, master of none.

His first skill is pretty great, mostly because it cuts through trees. But being composite damage, it actually deals a bit lower than an average nuke, is easier to dodge than an average nuke, has worse AOE than an average nuke (range is great though) and is fairly costly for an STR hero, requiring him to get a Bottle or Soul Ring.

His second skill gives him a boar that slows and is basically useless besides that (Would be easier to just get an Orb of Venom, anyone can do that). The hawk is a moving ward, yes, but that moving ward:

-Can be killed for bonus gold and is squishy
-Has a low duration, especially when you compare it to real wards
-Has a 40 second cooldown
-Is visible. Invisible from level 3 but wards are invisible anyway

His third skill is nice and is very useful.

His last skill is great, especially because it pierces BKB. But regardless of how good it is, it's a single target 4 sec stun. That's not saying much, espcially when you have Bane and other disablers in general who may not pierce magic immunity ( Bane does though) but have spammier/AOE stuns.

And like Sando said, he doesn't bring much to the table, because he's a utility hero. As a support, he brings an average AS aura, a mediocre nuke that's used more for the setup it gives for a gank rather than the damage, a BKB piercing single target stun with average damage and an AOE slow that doesn't last long that has a long cooldown, and a ****py ward that's vulnerable and is moving but overall inferior to a regular ward.

Oh, and he has this summon that can slow.

As a carry, he has an AS aura. That's it.

P.S Aghs gives it a 45 sec cd, not 30.

I don't want to make long explanations, so I'll just list a couple of reasons why I think he's not picked in pubs:
  • Requires some micromanagement
  • Needs either the mid lane (in which he's pretty weak) or the solo lane
  • Mana-hungry early on
  • Nobody knows how to use the axes at their full potential

I myself like him because he's very versatile (he can fill the initiator, pusher or even mid-game carry role) and can build a lot of items such as Mekansm, Blink Dagger and Necronomicon, but there are usually better mid Heroes and, if you pick him for his ultimate, Bane can do it too and leaves the mid lane for a stronger Hero.

I think it's a bit unfair to say the boar is useless - it can do a few jobs for you:

- Partial escape ability
- Can stack ancients
- Can block the pull camp stack
- Can even pull creeps for you

Unfortunately you need at least level 3 to get it, which can be a little late when you're trying to stay in range for xp or stack ancients before then. As noted, he's not a great mid - ok, but not scary, and can't really gank until 6.

He's a good pusher, utility hero, semi-carry, initiator - but as noted, there are other heroes who do all of these better individually. Compare him to a hero like Magnus, who has a cheaper nuke, better carry buff, an escape and much better teamfight. Ok BM has more utility and can ancient stack, but still...

I actually kinda like him, but I don't feel like he is rewarding to play at all, also he isn't a great mid laner and there are way better heroes for offlane so idk about him :p

Fair point. I'll still argue that the boar doesn't have enough uses though - partial escape mech wouldn't be able to slow multiple enemies at once (at least, not instantly), ancient stack is better done with Wild Axes because the boar is probably dead if it gets aggro from a triple or even double stack and Wild Axes can be used for ancient farming anyway (as the offlaner). Pulling creeps shouldn't be done, as a beastmaster you wouldn't want to be a #4 or #5 to have to pull.

I guess it could be useful for blocking neutral spawns though, and disrupting pulls might be great with the boar.

Beast master is drafted at tournies... he's just not drafted very often. Some heroes are picked and banned in almost every single game.... bm is not among them. That is not to say he is never select; just not the most frequent pick.

Its probably because as stated before he isnt a support neither a carry so teams tend to pick either a full functioning support or carry so the hero can do a better job at its role

Many people in this thread are talking about roles and heroes that are black and white. If this were true then roles 3 and 4 would not exist in the game. Beastmaster primary purpose is an initiator... everything other than the damage of his ult goes through magic immunity. His support quality is his aura. Pipe is commonly built on him, but his main items are blink dagger and scepter.
