I'm not so sure we should be encouraging people to stick to only the Heroes they're comfortable with. If skill level is a problem...they're gonna suck no matter what they pick. It's only by learning the game as a whole that they'll reach a level where they can play most heroes comfortably, and in order to do that, you've got to play different Heroes. It's fine if they want to pick one of their favourites most games, but you should be open to experimentation and stepping out of your comfort zone in these inhouses.

I don't want to encourage people to play their most used heroes. I'm just saying that "forcing" people to play new heroes by giving them a hero they don't know how to play in a CM draft is not the best way to make people try out new heroes. And it's actually counter-productive in the end.

Personally I was always curious to try out new heroes just by seeing them in action. The impulse for novelty must come from the heart (^^), you can't force it artificially.

So give people the choice! Even in ranked style AP, there are a lot of options just like CM and you won't get very far with a small hero pool. It still encourages trying out new heroes, in order to adapt with the heroes who were already picked. The only difference is, you're actually in control of what you're playing.

I think im late to the discussion huh... Short story here, I wish the pings would be friendlier. I think I can still go though. (EDIT: 19.30? No way Im going) Plus, I cant play core very well with damn lags. Muh CS. Honestly I wont really mind playing heroes I dont play much. I like to think myself a quick learner. But as earlier mentioned, lags are not friendly to me, especially if I am playing core (I would like to play outworld devourer and dumpster the 3k trashes >:D) Earlier start sounds nice too.

@Dimo Strangely enough, I succeeded my first SoF+Chain combo in my first bot practice with him xD

i think the salt occurs when people take it very very seriously! which this sint supposed to be! if you want a serious inhouse make the SERIOUS tag before it.

the whole idea behind inhouses are simple

" everyone of all levels of skill can play together and enjoy the game and hopefully learn some stuff and have fun !!!!"

also i have never had a bad inhouse since i always am ready to laugh :D

also

TECHIESSSS i loved that game i laughed so ******** hard!! hahahahhahahah

As someone who is from the U.S., my ping is terrible on eu west, and it would be even worse since my computer is old as is. Needless to say I wouldn't mind putting my skills at mid to the test.

If we are going to cm, then at least make sure you know what your teammates strengths are. Zaop learned the hard way by drafting me Winter Wyvern.

I'm not a lion player myself, but since that match i've started using both lion and winter wyvern in my support voyage. So there's always something to take

About the saltyness, you see, it's a good persona (alter-ego) to have around. The only reason why I shout at you people is because I want you to learn. Go ahead and ask everyone, I can be just as cool and calculated as I can be salty.

The salty persona is there just for authority, and that is mostly because people don't listen. Case in point, prime example I can remember of that is when Xyrus picked himself support Zeus, I was playing as Sven. Him and I believe apaz were chatting about something while I told Xyrus that Dark Seer didn't get his ward down blocking the camp. And I told him again... and again. He still got lightning bolt at level 1 on a support Zeus even though I told him I need him to bully the DS out of lane. Now, how are you going to do that with lightining bolt? Exactly, you don't. From that point on, his pick was useless until 10 minutes in when he got level 5 and ganked the DS once.

All I am asking is for an extended attention span people. If you want to play Dota, and you want to improve at it, don't do anything else in the meantime. Concentrate on the current game you are playing. Because if you get distracted, and you make mistakes due to it, then those small mistakes can lead to losing games. It doesn't matter if you win or lose, but if you lose because your teammates don't try their best (note I said try, not do, because you can never be 100%), then you won't feel really well. Eventually "the **** is going to hit the fan" .(basically if you lose via your teammate suiciding 1v5, you can't be really happy about it - and this happens more often than not in the inhouse - on both teams)

I'm really late to say this, but I really want to play an inhouse, thing is... not in EU west please :(

My *****tain of Internet can only stand playing in SEA, and I did try making a SEA inhouse, but the lack of player cause it to be just an idea...

It's too bad, really.

Inhouses in "remote" parts of the world are just not happening because of lack of people. We're already doing them in Europe servers which should mean that people from Europe, Russia AND the US should be able to join with a decent ping, which includes the vast majority of people on the site. And even then...we still lack players.

Xyrus = EE sama confirmed :)

By the way, maybe it could be an idea to do some games on US east servers, maybe for a part of the games at least. Personally from Europe I have a perfectly decent ping on US east (~100 ms) so maybe it could be a better solution in average for people who have a bad ping on EU west. Thoughts?

The custom games inhouse is Wulfstan's thing, not mine. 8{3

This is what I mean by people's "reaction time". I think that the greatest barrier to fun in these inhouses is that some people are unable to react to Situations, no matter how obvious. Game knowledge is easy to increase (that's what this site can do best for you after all), but even if people understand how Skills work and what they should be doing, they don't always react in time. I have a few ideas on how to increase reaction time, but these are just ideas, as speeding up your actions is not an easy thing to do.

For example, I played a game last night. There were 3 of us Mid, and we could see 2 enemies Mid (there was also a 3rd, Invis Hero, but that's hindsight). One of the visible Heroes was Enigma, he'd been Jungling the entire time and now he showed up on the cliff by the secret shop at around 8:39. 8:55, he starts moving further forward, walking straight up to the 3 of us. I backed up out of Black Hole Range but staying in Range to cancel it, while one of the others popped Smoke of Deceit, LITERALLY less than 100 units away from Enigma, the other just stood there. 8:59 - eziest 2man Black Hole of that Enigma's life.

I can understand how Wulfstan, Waloo and the like get stressed out easily in these Situations ^ , simply because it stresses me out too. In my rage, I ended up overcommitting...I immediately cancelled the Black Hole, then I drove forward a little bit and killed the Enigma, but by that time, there was a new 3rd Hero who managed to lock me down and secure my death as well. I know salting people over these things isn't going to help, but it is oh so very tempting. Let's face it though, if people are having trouble focusing and reacting in a game, salting them can only make it worse.

That's why I won't salt people if I can help it, but if I start spamming, e.g. "hitthetowerhitthetowerhitthetowerhitthetowerhitthetowerhitthetowerhitthetowerhitthetower", please understand, it's because you're not reacting and I'm just trying to help you focus by doing this. I'm not mad at you, and I usually only do this in the Late Game where decisions are harder and people start panicking more.

I will however put a plan into action in this next inhouse for helping those players that struggle to react. 8{D
