[WIP] The Crit Happy Girl : Phantom Assassin Guide by IndoPr0

Introduction

Hello everyone, this is IndoPr0 delivering to you guys my first ever guide, feel free to comment anything, every critic accepted.

You can contact me at steamcommunity.com/IndoPr0 or maybe at twitter (@IndoPr0)

Note that this is a Work In Progress, because this guide is initially made by someone who still didn't sleep at 3 am GMT+8. More will follow!

Phantom Assassin's Lore

Through a process of divination, children are selected for upbringing by the Sisters of the Veil, an order that considers assassination a sacred part of the natural order. The Veiled Sisters identify targets through meditation and oracular utterances. They accept no contracts, and never seem to pursue targets for political or mercenary reasons. Their killings bear no relation to any recognizable agenda, and can seem to be completely random: A figure of great power is no more likely to be eliminated than a peasant or a well digger. Whatever pattern the killings may contain, it is known only to them. They treat their victims as sacrifices, and death at their hand is considered an honor. Raised with no identity except that of their order, any Phantom Assassin can take the place of any other; their number is not known. Perhaps there are many, perhaps there are few. Nothing is known of what lies under the Phantom Veil. Except that this one, from time to time, when none are near enough to hear, is known to stir her veils with the forbidden whisper of her own name: Mortred.

Pros / Cons

Pros :

[*] Stifling Dagger lets you farm safely
[*] Blur gives you 35% evasion, basically Butterfly rate evasion without the high price!
[*] Best critical in the whole game, which gives us.....
[*] 4 digit critical! Who doesn't love it?
[*] Higher than average movespeed

Cons :
[*] VERY item dependent.
[*] Blur minimap icon removal only works when an enemy hero is 1600 range or less away from PA.
[*] Using Phantom Strike to escape is tough (Need something nearby, creep or allied heroes)

Item Justification

Starting Items

We will take a set of healing items ( Healing Salve, Tango), three Iron Branches, and a Stout Shield for survivability.

Early Game

Your next item will be Boots of Speed. It is essential for your survivability (Faster move speed yeah). Next, take a Poor Man's Shield to give awesome 20 block damage early on.
Next, complete your Magic Wand. This frees up a lot of space for your next item, that is Ring of Health and convert it to Preserverance.

Core Items

Now, you want to complete your Phase Boots, for more chasing power and more damage. Next, finish your Battlefury and start farming ancients when situation permits. If you expect to go gank a few times (with your team of course), then don't finish Battlefury yet, pick up Morbid Mask and proceed. After you finish Battlefury, pick up Black King Bar to give you immunity from boatload of Crowd Controls (some Ultimate do bypass BKB, sorry).

Extensions : Lifesteal

After finishing our core, we will take a lifesteal item.
We got Helm of the Dominator (Upgradable to Satanic) and Vladmir's Offering.
When choosing which one to buy, consider the following :
  • Is my team composition consists of another melee carry/semi carry who will benefit from Vlads?
  • Is someone making Vlads?

If you answer yes on the first Q and no to the 2nd, pick Vlads. Otherwise (Especially if you have Ursa on your team), take HotD and upgrade it to Satanic. Vlads will give you and melee ally 15% lifesteal. What's better, Vlad's aura is NOT counted as Orb effect. It helps heroes like Bounty Hunter (Who will mostly take Desolator) and Anti-Mage (Mana Break is an orb effect) On the other hand, HotD lets you dominate a creep, which will give it's aura to your team (Consider having Alpha Wolf for teamfights). When you upgrade to Satanic, you cannot dominate anymore, but gives you TON of lifesteal. In fact, it's active gives you EVEN MORE lifesteal. So much that a 4-digit crit while Unholy Rage is active will heal you back to full health (PA's health at level 25 is around 1700, while a 1000 damage crit will heal youu 1750 health)

Extensions : Others

Skull Basher into Abyssal Blade will give you Bash, that will stun an enemy hero for 1.4 second, with a 2 second cooldown. Also, Abyssal blade gives you a 2 second stun active ability that goes through BKB.
Assault Cuirass gives armor for your team and reduces enemy armor. Great for making you tankier and unleash more damage.
Monkey King Bar.... It makes Butterfly holder cry because their evasion won't work against you. Also the minibash is helpful is someone wants to TP back to base. It hurts their heart.
Divine Rapier needs no explanation. Boost your damage, boost your crit, but it drops on death. Anyway, combined with Lifesteal, you will hardly drop it.

More to come!

Well, as i said earlier, this guide is a Work in Progress. Feel free to share your opinion at the comments down there below the Special Thanks. Also do note that this is my first guide EVER. There will be a lot of mistakes. English is also not my native language, so expect grammar mistakes.

Special Thanks

Thanks to GamingWithDean for making an Ursa guide that give me my first MM win which renders me addicted to Dota.
Thanks to Valve and Icefrog for making Dota 2.
Thanks to Dotafire for making such a wonderful place to submit guides.
Thanks to all (future) critics for their criticism which ultimately make this guide better.

I like the item guide, it's a good build. But I was wondering why you choose blur at level 2 and not phantom strike? I don't wanna be mad during levels 2 or 3 when a hero makes a mistake and I can't punish him for it.

Anyway, if you want some survivability, pick blur. If you want to get early firstblood, pick Phantom Strike. Or maybe if you're looking for level 1 firstblood, pick Phantom Strike first.

Why would you put in phase boots? Pa doesn't need the chase and treads give you more dps. Also there's realy no reason to get bkb before vlad or hotd. Lifesteal gives you way more survivability than a few seconds of magic immunity. The item build here is pretty much a rehash of the default items build, which is pretty much pointless.

You use phase boots because it gives you decent damages AND movement speed early, if you have quick heros with sprint ability or under pressure of ganks it can save your life !
But i buy them after my bkb in most cases if i had a decent early.

The BKB allow me to push lanes really quickly and to clean jungle in 1 minute, which mean that you have your vlad after 2-3min in the jungle ;) Also, the dmg bonus from the BKB is quite good and if you have good ennemies, i think more damage, and aoe damage are way more important than a lifesteal.

This is my opinion, and i'm not a dota pro, so maybe i'm wrong ...
