I have a question, What is the pourpuse of having reliable and unreliable gold? How does that work?

In a nutshell, hero kills/assists and tower kills give reliable gold, and almost everything else gives unreliable gold.

Unreliable gold can be lost when you die, but not reliable gold. So if you die with only reliable gold, you lose nothing.

It's a mechanic to encourage people to fight and push instead of AFK farming. If you're saving for a big item, e.g Radiance or Blink Dagger typically, you can still teamfight and push because there's only so much gold you can lose from dying repeatedly.

Let's say you're plying Lion or Earthshaker, and you spend all the early game roaming and finding kills/assists, then you're going to get an early blink no matter how much you die. IMO that's the most impactful thing about this mechanic.
