Ive been thinking this for a while, so here's the deal:

Nature's Prophet has 100 base damage.
Crystalis crits to 175 damage.

Considering price, chance, crit damage, stats, is an early crys legit?
Don't Worry, Be Happy

Late credits to Janitsu for the sig

Whether to get Crit or not isn't based on how much Damage you have, but how many Attacks you can land in a Gank/Teamfight. After all, it's no good getting Crystalis if you can only get 3 hits off in a Teamfight, that's less than a 50% chance to actually get a Crit at all.

As the game drags on, you'll have more Attack Speed and fights will last longer as Nukes lose their effectiveness, hence why Daedalus is usually a Late-Game Item.

You also have to consider that Nature's Prophet is Squishy and lacks a good Escape Mechanism, so a Blink Dagger is always a good idea, so you can Blink into the Trees and Teleportation out before anyone gets close to you. Then there's Items like Necronomicon, Assault Cuirass and Desolator which increase his natural Pushing Power.

As a Nature's Prophet you don't really want to be in the middle of fights if you can help it, so only go Daedalus if you absolutely have to fight, can foreseeably get a few Crits to Proc each Teamfight and don't need anything else in order to Push Towers down, but need Damage in fights for some reason.

Also many pros are trying out blade mail/ null talisman builds for prophet for early survivability in team fights.
