A QoP could easily beat Pudge in the laning phase but when it gets later, pudge can just hook you, use his ultimate with aghs and you are dead my friend.

Good warding and hook dodging usually outwits a Pudge player.

Weaver is a fantastic counter to Pudge - unless of course your reaction timing is horrible.

Huskar - Burning Spears make laning horrible for him, and you're tough enough to absorb damage and make Rot relatively ineffective. You have to be careful not to get hooked and disabled by the tower though - for god's sake don't Life Break him near one.

Silencer - he has to throw a hook to dispel Curse of the Silent which can make mana management a real problem for him. If he does get you, you're in trouble though.

Clockwerk - again, tough enough to survive a hook attempt. If you can activate Battery Assault before he tries to Dismember you, the mini-stuns will break it very quickly. Power Cogs can also harass him effectively by draining his mana.

I wouldn't call pudge a dominant mid hero, and if you're getting hooked with Akasha you're doing something wrong, I mean, she can just blink if you lee scared of being hooked. QoP should be able to dominate him in lane and as long as the side lanes have a pulse and ward a pudge behind shouldn't catch up
Step 1: Pick Bristleback
Step 2: type in all chat:"GL hf"
Step 3: solo offlane
Step 4: first blood triple kill solo vs trilane
Step 5: continue head butting keyboard
Step 6: don't care, Bristleback doesn't give a ****
Step 7: screenshot repeated: BB OP comments in all chat
Step 8: alternate games with Slark pick

Pudge will almost always lose his lane unless he gets a kill before lvl 3 or something but why is he still so popular as a mid you ask, well because despite losing his lane he utilizes the side lanes VERY well probably even better then QoP
i rush mask of madness and basher on puck :3

2 heroes that counter Pudge mid-lane I'd say would be Invoker and Batrider. Invoker's Cold Snap is EXTREMELY useful in the early and mid game, if you get hooked, you Cold Snap Pudge and he's essentially being mini-stunned by his Rot, giving you enough time to get away. As Batrider, you should be keeping plenty of Sticky Napalm on your enemy at all times. If you get hooked, before level 6, using Firefly will do TONS of damage over time, and with Rot taking Pudge's health, he probably won't chase you. After level 6, if you have good enough reaction time, you can Flaming Lasso Pudge before he can Dismember you and you might even get a kill. Batrider also has a higher base movespeed than Pudge, so you have better Rune control and gank potential. This is all from personal experience, so idk if it always applies, but it works for me.

Silencer beats Pudge easy. Can't hook you if he has no mana.
