When is Desolator better on Storm Spirit compared to other items? Not as a first item, since he requires mana regeneration and the useful ability of an item like Orchid Malevolence. An orchid not only gives mana regeneration, but also grants damage, attack speed and intelligence (which translates to more damage). In the end, Orchid has more damage than Deso on a Storm Spirit (55 vs 50) with an active effect that storm can utilise more effectively than the minus armour debuff (storm's first hit almost never applies it, because it usually has the Overload attack modifier).

As a 2nd or 3rd item? Perhaps, but he is probably better off working on his BKB if the opponent has many disables, or another intelligence item like Linken's Sphere or Bloodstone. Could be useful as a cheap damage item to out-DPS certain heroes, but it still doesn't have much synergy with his abilities.

As a super late-game pick-up? Only if you're at your enemy's base trying to push their towers, then you could buy a Deso from their base if you have a slot for it AND 3500 gold in the bank for some reason. But then again, unless you're racing against the clock trying to down their ancient before their Anti-Mage respawns, it's probably better to save the money for wicked sick items like Scythe of Vyse or Monkey King Bar (to hit those pesky Butterfly holders).

In the end, pretty much the only 'great' time to get a Deso on storm is in the mid-game, and even then he usually needs to get BKB thanks to heroes like Lion and Leshrac (with a Eul's Scepter of Divinity) plaguing the meta right now. BUT, it is still an ultra-situational pick-up after Orchid that provides a ton of damage for cheap.

That's my two cents on this matter, hope it helps!

Well Storm deals most of his damage via autoattacks in most games so if you got an early Bloodstone and feel sufficient with it, why not? You reliably kill every hero without escapes with that thing.

This is the theory behind Daedalus] on [[Storm Spirit. When you snowball out of control so hard that you don't even care about Lock-down, you just get a 23 minute Daedalus and end up bringing Heroes down from Full HP to dead in less than 3 seconds.

Only applies to games where you've basically already won, but in those Situations it works incredibly well.

Deso does this work way better and lets you hit towers harder as well. Daedalus is more like a 5/6th slot pickup on Storm.

As someone who enjoys playing storm, it would seem useful as a good snowball item for storm if you're doing well after a very early bloodstone. It would be very situational however it would be very helpful taking early towers to keep snowballing, and decent to help with taking down heroes. If you're not snowballing really well though it seems like it would put you back a decent bit in a game.

If you have a slardar in your team then why not? But again it's a highly situation item. You are not a QOP who can chase/escape with a cheap mana of 60. Jumping in and out will cost you almost half of your mana and in fact you did most of your damage via Q and E. Since your right click is not fast enough so it's usually better to go for more mana regen and utilities.
