Eye of Skadi: Exiled?

The only hero I really ever get it on is Morphling. It's not bad, exactly, as the effect is useful. However, it's incredibly expensive and doesn't offer too much in the damage department. The only real reason it's of use to Morph is because it gives good stats. But other than him, there just aren't many heroes that get a great deal of use out of it.

I've been doing some experimentation for the past week with this item and found it works reasonably well with mobile gankers such as Nature's Prophet (I tend to play Nature's Prophet as a assisting ganker when I'm not jungling). The item is indeed expensive, but the stats and the attack modifier it provides that is capable of stacking with lifesteal modifiers on Ranged heroes, in my opinion, makes it worth while.

It's too expensive - you'll note that both heroes you mentioned are heavy farmers. (or have skills to allow them to farm quickly)
Think of other heroes who are in the farm heavy department, eye of skadi isn't one of their best items - hence you don't get it, and opt for something else.
other than morphling or furion, the only hero I would see getting EOS is QOP, and that's after he has hex, travel and linken.
if you want to have some fun, EOS is great on rikimaru (for example you were left to farm for ages, rush a skadi in 15-20 minutes is a good laugh..)

Its understandable that the item's price puts many people off. But in saying that, there is a purpose and means for this item in the game. I've just yet to find a hero that can potentially benefit from this item as a late game item.

It's expensive, it's true, but it gives some good stats and also frost attack which is really useful.

I usually get it if the game goes well, I get it on heroes like Morphling, Lich, Night Stalker, etc.

Do you have any justification for this? I've found that the Eye of Skadi can be viable for any kind of ranged carry who decides to carry lifesteal as Eye of Skadi does stack lifesteal for ranged heroes.

Problem being, most ranged heroes have no need for lifesteal. The only ones that get it use it for ancient stacking, and then it's not uncommon for them to ditch it after they are farmed. Most ranged heroes are too squishy to be taking much damage requiring them to lifesteal in the first place.

You do make a valid point Atlas. I'm not too sure how familiar you are with HoN but it's a different case in that game. I have a background in Dota 1 and Heroes of Newerth of which is very closely related to Dota 2. Its quite common for heroes such as Flint (HoN's take on Sniper from Dota) to grab Frostwolf Skull ( Eye of Skadi) and then a life steal item such as Helm of the Dominator. I think the only offset of this item is the hefty price tag. Its a beautiful item in my perspective and I enjoy using it, especially when you're coupled with a Nature's Prophet who has already attained a Desolator.

Eye of Skadi's main benefit, Cold Attack, is most useful during early & mid game ganks and chasing. Lategame its usefulness diminishes as teamfights dominate the gameplay.

This is a fairly fundamental problem with the item, because its high gold cost and high per-component cost make it very much a late game item for most heroes, which is the very phase in which it is least useful.
