What is the most underrated/overlooked item in Dota?

Hm, Shiva's Guard is probably underrated too. I've never played a game with someone that built it yet, but it's pretty useful.

S&Y isnt underrated, it is underpowered.

I agree with Tim here. There are plenty of options better than an SnY IMO. For example, Bloodseeker. I would build an OOV and a Eul's Scepter on him rather than an SnY

BKB, Veil, Smoke, Wards, Dust, MoC, Ghost, .........

Well the list is never ending as it depends on the bracket of people you play with mostly.

Yeah I think Ab4ddon._.E43 is on to something there. BKB is seriously underrated. Not every game but so often I see carries not pick one up when they're against a magic dependent team. Especially if it's not considered core.

In pub dota, Rod of Atos is severely overlooked, awkward to build, but damn, it can do some serious work especially on heroes like Silencer outworld devourer and Skywrath Mage, it can ensure kills very easily, and the bonus health can be invaluable, situational, but it has it's uses.
I have to say something about an overrated item: Mask of Madness, severely overrated in pubs, I love seeing it personally, and people don't seem to realize when and when not to build it, and it's built on a lot of squishes...oh hai you popped. MoM..boom Finger of Death.

I have to agree on mekanism in pubs in general. It's priceless in those early fights.

The problem with RoA is the awkward buildup and price, it is not always feasable to build.

Not to mention that the other sticks are better than it.

Euls gives movement and can use to control an enemy or on yourself to negate an attack.

Orchid gives a silence and a magic damage boost. Awesome on storm and QoP.

Sheep turns someone into a sheep. Nuff said.


Most over rated items are shadow blade and MoM. Shadow Blade pretty much gives people false sense of survivability. Especially if the other team is prepared for it and have dust, sentries, and or a gem.

MoM is a high risk high reward item that can backfire quite badly. Especially if the user isn't careful. Best kill I had was when a Sniper attacked me when I was playing Centaur. He had MoM, shadow blade, and desolator. I popped Blademail and watched as he killed himself when he activated MoM.

I wouldn't say they're better, just more powerful and more reliable (not as easy to ignore). Rod of Atos has the longest Cast Range and the lowest Cooldown, so you can not only use it in a Teamfight, possibly even twice, and you can use it again to chase a fleeing straggler afterwards.
