To me, this hero is a decent ganker and a decent early game hero in general. Aside from that, I just really dont see what he offers; imo he's a subpar carry, and he doesnt have any abilities that make him a really good support. I just dont see where he fits, or what he fits as in the current meta. What do you guys think?

I personally like the slahser way of playing Gyrocopter: solo offlane. He benefits a lot from the solo experience and can get his high damage magical nukes up early, allowing him to gank effectively and get some great pick-offs.

The build for that style of play is Tranquil Boots and Eul's Scepter of Divinity first, in case you were wondering, so you're highly mobile, but also highly dependent on your magical damage. Use the Eul's to catch people out and launch your ult, then dive in for a full damage Rocket Barrage. It can be glorious if you pull it off.

But uh... all that being said, I'm not sure if there's anything he brings to the table that other heros don't also offer? Which would mean he's not really 'in the meta' per se. He can easily turn a snowball into farm to become a hard carry though, so that's something.

I don't mind gyro as a hard carry. As long as your team creates room for you to farm you can get some serious damage going with flack cannon. He's good in the landing phase as well. His homing missile does alot of damage if the enemy back away from it so they don't get stunned out of position. The only downside I find is he's very squishy. But his immense magic damage makes up for that early

He's a ganker who scales as a hard carry. This alone makes him a solid hero, especially in pubs.
There are very few heroes who can both snowball hard and carry hard, and Gyro is one of them.

Go mid or offlane, max rocket and missile, and go kill heroes. Any safe lane AFK flakking build with ancient stacking is esentially an underpowered Medusa so no. I think the hero was a bit stuck up in the now outdated farming role, but if you take advantage of his ganking abiity and his late game scaling, he can have a playstyle similar to Tiny or Ember Spirit.

Only question is that people still haven't made their mind on the best item build/playstyle. Main problem of the hero is that initiating with Homing Missile kind of sucks, the guy will just walk away. You can try to missile from fog, but this is only really effective at night... Slahser's Euls is fairly unreliable as well... personally I'd go with classic Shadow Blade (to initiate with Call Down and then use missile to kill running heroes, much more reliable) and/or Ethereal Blade. And Bottle/ Arcane Boots for mana.

Why not use eul's to set up for Call Down and use missile to chase running heroes? I find that more reliable than Shadow Blade to be honest.

Gyro is still a strong and flexible hero, but he suffers somewhat in the super-ricing meta simply because there are harder carries and his ability to kill in lane is not always fully exploited when he's playing #1 carry.

These days he's either a mid or #1 carry, although the safe lane carry is rarer due to his relatively early time frame. He can even be played as a transistioning #4 due to his flash farming and ganking abilities.

As Hamster says, the argument becomes a bit like "why pick him instead of Medusa?" - and the only real answer to that is "he comes online sooner". That means you either need to win sooner, or you lose your window...not great in a ricing meta.
