Introduction

Greetings everyone, and welcome to this Guide to Gyrocopter, one of the most picked Carries in the Meta right now. This Guide is focused on your preferences, it might seem unusual but here you can combine skill and item builds (except the mid gyro build). Now, have fun reading this guide and trying it out, and I'd ask you to give me some feedback.

Pros and Cons

Skills

ROCKET BARRAGE

Launches a salvo of rockets at nearby enemy units in a radius around the Gyrocopter. Lasts 3 seconds.
Radius: 400
Duration: 3
Number of Rockets: 30
Damage Per Rocket: 11/15/19/23
Cooldown 7/6.5/6/5.5 Mana 90

TIPS

  • Try using this only when a target is isolated because it will deal a HUGE amount of damage to that Target
  • Don't really use it for farming, especially not on creep waves, the damage is often to small if it is split between multiple targets, making it a waste of mana.
  • Works great with heroes like Rubick

HOMING MISSILE

Fires a homing missile to seek the targeted enemy unit. The missile gains speed over time, and deals greater damage and a longer stun the farther it has traveled. Enemy units can destroy the missile before it reaches its target.
Cast Range: 1050
Stun Duration: 2.2/2.4/2.6/2.8
Minimum Damage: 50
Maximum Damage: 110/220/330/440
Cooldown 20/17/14/11 Mana 120/130/140/150

TIPS

  • Your main harrass tool as mid gyro, just cast it on them. They will have to make a decision: Will i run and get hit by a lot of damage? or Will i stay as close to the rocket as possible because it does do low damage and then get hit by auto attacks and maybe even get hit by Rocket Barrage?
  • Try to coordinate it with your Teammates
  • It is Countered by Invisible heroes such as Bounty Hunter or Riki because the rocket will still follow the heroes but when it hits them (while they're invis), it will do no damage and won't stun.

Flak Cannon

Gyrocopter's attacks hit all enemy units in an area around it for a limited number of attacks. Only the main target of attacks will receive attack bonuses such as Critical Strike. Lasts 15 seconds or until the attacks are used.
Radius: 1000
Duration: 3/4/5/6 attacks, or 15 seconds
Cooldown 20 Mana 50

TIPS

  • There are some neat tricks you can do with this spell, e.g. you can attack creeps and still hit heroes with it because the range is huge
  • You can attack Towers and still hit the creep waves or even damage heroes, making it very hard for the enemy to stand near the tower.

CALL DOWN

Call down an aerial missile strike on enemy units in a target area. Two missiles arrive in succession, the first dealing major damage and minor slow; the second dealing minor damage and major slow.
Range: 1000 (Global*)
Radius: 450
Duration: 2/3
Missile One Damage: 250/300/350
Missile Two Damage: 100/150/200 (175/225/275*)
Missile One Movement Speed Slow: 20%
Missile Two Movement Speed Slow: 50%
Cooldown 55/50/45 Mana 125

TIPS

  • Can be used for farming but i don't reccomend it. You're better of just using Flak Cannon instead
  • Don't hesitate to use it in any engagements even if you're fighting 1v1 or if you're running away since it has a very low cooldown.

Items explained

Shadow Blade is a very popular pub item, however it's almost never picked up in competitive games. Why? Simply because it's too risky. Good players will get Dust of Appearance or Sentry Ward or Gem of True Sight against you and punish you for not going a more solid Build. Some people like to use Shadow Blade as a defensive item, which is as mentioned before, very risky. Shadow Blade is much better as an offensive item than a defensive item.

The Black King Bar is one of the best if not the best item in the game. Magic Immunity, some hp and some damage for only 3900 gold. It is the most important item for many carries and so is it for gyro. The magic immunity will let you attack and use your spells in teamfights without worrying about getting disabled. You should generally get it every game. some people like to get it as their first main item, especially if you're not doing well. You should do so too. It will give you some chances for a comeback if you had a bad start.

Helm of the Dominator makes you a bit more tanky and the lifesteal is very useful, and scales very well into late game since you do more damage late game and then get more lifesteal. and the most important thing is stacking ancients with it. Go tho the jungle and get (preferably) a big creep. Let the creep stand near the ancient camp on your side and Let it pull the creeps away from it at x:52. That way, you can stack the camp. Repeat the process until you got 3-5 stacks and farm them with Flak Cannon. This will boost up your Gold as well as your exp. Also consider upgrading it into Satanic later.

Phase Boots are better than Power Treads in my opinion. Why? The attack speed and the stas that Power Treads give you may be nice but Phase Boots are better because the synergy between your spells and the boots are just too good. They give you some damage which is nice for Flak Cannon and of course it's easier to lasthit. The ability to stay close to your enemy while you use Rocket Barrage is essential as well and it's great for following your rocketed target.

Butterfly is great for almost any agi carry because it gives you so much good stuff. The armor, the agility the attack speed and the evasion of course. Just a great item and very good for late game or mid game.

Yasha is a good early game item. The agility, attack speed, armor, and move speed is good and it can be upgraded into Manta Style or Sange and Yasha later.

Monkey King Bar is great to counter enemy carries that already have butterfly and it also is a great mid to late game damage item.

Divine Rapier is basically your last hope if you're losing the game. The damage can win you the game but if you loose it, the game is often over. Oh, and don't do victory rapiers. They're lame.

The Free Farm Build

The free farm build is only used if you're getting uncontested farm and should not be used in any other case. You'll often use this if the enemy has and offlaner that stays out of exp range or if the lane is completely abandoned. using it if you're playing trilane vs trilane or dual lane vs dual lane will often just loose you the lane without you getting any farm. you generally won't use the Homing Missile here that's why you grab stats over it and get only one level in it.

The Lane with Engagements build

This Build should be used if you play trilane vs trilane or dual lane vs dual lane. You can use this build if you're getting freefarm if you want but maxing Flak Cannon in that case will generally be better. In this build grabbing some stats and Homing Missile later will also be good. You need to max Rocket Barrage in this case. The damage coming out from it is just too good to skip.

The Mid Gyro Build

Mid Gyro is generally not played in competitive games, or at least very rarely. The reason you do this is mentioned above, because of the Homing Missile harass. Phase Boots will be necessary in this build, because the move speed is better for getting to runes and the lasthitting power will be nice too.

Flat Damage Gyro

This Build is used if you ignore agility and focus on flat Damage and Lifesteal instead. This build is good because you focus on more damage meaning you get more lifesteal meaning you're more survivable. Drums are generally not picked up in this case, instead a Helm of the Dominator is picked up.

Agility focused Gyro

The agility focused Gyro build is used if you like attack speed and armor more than flat damage and lifesteal. I personally like it more than the Flat Damage build because you still get damage and get attack speed too. you may wonder why you get an early Butterfly. It's because it just makes you more survivable and it's the best agility item in the game. Also, the reason you don't upgrade yasha into Manta Style or Sange and Yasha early is because it's not that beneficial for Gyro.

Last words

I hope i could help you out with this guide and please give me some feedback. Be sure to also tell me how it worked in your games if you try it out sometime.
