Silencer: Shut up and die!

Abaddon
May 10, 2012

Introduction

Silencer is an multi-role hero that can transition between build during mid game very easily. There are several ways to play this character, but the one I'm focusing on (the best in my opinion) is the carry-offtank build.

Pros / Cons

PROS

  • Great early harass
  • Reduces enemies' INT and boosts his own for the remainder of the game
  • Massive silence times
  • Great at support and carry roles
  • Can switch between builds during mid game if something goes wrong
  • Great usefulness VS heroes
  • The more people in a teamfight, the more useful
  • Global map support
CONS
  • Somehow Squishy
  • Low farming skills
  • Easily countered
  • Can't play as jungler, nor ganker
  • Long cooldowns
  • Needs kills/assists to build his damage output
  • Has to be amid the battlefield to be 100% useful
  • Need health items to survive long enough

Items

Get a couple of early, but don't rush for them. Getting is more important, because it will allow you to chase and fall back easily. Remember to ALWAYS carry a , so you can tp to base if you are being ganked and out of or .

NOTE: If you are going for an early Mekansm you can skip tangos and go straight for and/or to self-supply with enough hp to not buy potions, BUT you will have to play defensively for longer than normally.

When mid game kicks in you should RUSH for the , this will give you the edge in the fight and allow you to start killing, so you get those precious INT stacks ASAP. Then you NEED , and you are ready to go 1v1 and kick *** with your insane amount of silences, 25% damage increase AND your insane damage peak, due to massive int income, more attack speed to toss more and the regeneration that will provide infinite mana pool, so you can perma-use the . In the end you should grab the to boost yourself across the field, this way you can chase enemies so they die inside your AoE and get the extra int, escape from an ambush, push an ally so they can finish/stun fleeing enemies, also save them, whatever, a lot of uses.

Late game is all about getting what your team lacks, and if you aren't sure of what you should go for, will be the choice, because you want to throw as many as you can, many people think getting is better for the free hex, so you can go for it too. Rod of Athos is also a good overall option. If your team is weaker in teamfights (they have many AoE) get , it's a great choice overall too, and the heal/armor AoE pays off.

Skills

Curse of the Silent CURSE OF THE SILENT
This will be your main asset early game, cheap AoE that forces the enemy to choose whether they waste a spell or save it, but lose mana and HP instead (which is worse for them).Well used, this spell can dump the enemies' mana pool in 1 minute, thus leaving them completely defenseless. Max this early, because as soon as late game kicks in it's a useless spell.

GLAIVES OF WISDOM
This will be your bread-and-butter spell as soon as early game ends. Leveling it earlier will cost you too much mana to hold it, and the bonus won't be that huge until you have .

LAST WORD
This is a GREAT passive... in late game, but you still want a point as early as level 2 to start grabbing free int from enemy heroes, and also cut their chain-spells that could kill you, even if it's for 0.75 seconds. More points only give you extra silence for enemy spell casts, so max it out the last one.

GLOBAL SILENCE
This-is-awesome. You need skills to use it, but once you learn WHEN you will be a pain in the enemies ***. Tips for this skill: Cancel enemies' channelled spells, use it right after Curse of the Silent to have them eat some damage, deny the enemy ganks by denying their spells! I'm Silence and THIS IS JACKASS!

Stats STATS
They are stats, you should know all about stats already.

Summary

I CAN'T REMARK HOW IMPORTANT IT IS FOR YOU TO GRAB INT FROM KILLS/ASSISTS AT ALL TIMES

EARLY GAME

1.- Wait for the enemies to throw a spell at you, when they do, use Curse of the silent. (Autoattack effects DON'T count as spells, if you fight vs heroes like , who only has his Ultimate skill counting as "spell", fire at will!!!), be careful though, because if you use it too early they could cast a spell and counter yours.

2.- Try to crush their mana pool as much as you can, for during early game mana is a precious resource and several characters can only cast up to 2 spells before running out, disabling them will be your main purpose.

3.- Stand close to your enemies, normally being inside your autoattack range will be enough, pick kills or assists, but stay close so you can grab that intelligence point...

THE REST OF THE GAME

1.- Be a bit of a lame player, stay behind the melees and in frong of the other carries, so if they decide to attack you, will disable them long enough for you to use Curse of the silent and in sequence for a massive destruction in favor of your team. Chain with your items to chase the remnants and push.

2.- If you initiate in 1v1, you can't die, I assure you. Not even Naix will stand a fight against you, and just using your on him will mean you win, and remember you have to flee if they are more than you, or they start with a massive spam of disables and random ****.

3.- Help your I-am-dying-help-me-noobs mates when they are about to die, your best asset is your for that, even if you are in the opposite corner of the map you can deny the whole enemy team from landing a Snipe or any CC on him, thus probably saving his life.

My last words

ABOUT THE GUIDE

This is my first guide, so if you have any constructive criticism you are welcome to share your comments. Also if you find some sorf of error, like a typo, an item not displaying the icon, etc. tell me and I will fix it when I can.

THE FOCUS

I made this guide for 2 reasons:
1.- Let people know that several builds are found while playing and you develop them yourself with practice. There can be better builds depending on your playstyle, and the best way to find them is YOURSELF!

2.- Let myself remember how to play this character if I even forget how was that done. D'oh!
