Dota 2 Reborn: Custom Games


June 16, 2015 - Dota Team





Custom Games are new experiences that are created by the community, and playable within Dota 2. These games can be anything from a grand brawl between ten Invokers, to a story-driven dungeon adventure, to something creative that no one has seen before. For us, Custom Games represent a continuation of the tradition that gave birth to Dota, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike. We’d like to build an ecosystem where you can experience something new every time you launch Dota 2.

If you’d like to begin creating a Custom Game of your own, you can check out the second part of the update site to learn more about the ecosystem we’ve created.

Later this week we will explore some underlying technology of the new engine.

Why stop at yours? Could be a dotkafore project, select a bunch of awesome Hero concepts and port them into a custom game. Who wouldn't play the **** out of that?!

Oh man, I now I have a feasible means to create a dota with my heroes.

I just need models, a top icon, sound effects, ability icons, and contact with the voice actors I chose for the heroes.

And if not, maybe a Dota Campaign in the way of Warcraft III for Single Player also seems like a fun potential project.

Sounds really cool, but I dont think we have the resources to do so.

Ye, but it uses Lua scripts instead of WCIII editor's trigger system. You've got to spend a fair amount of time, a week or two, to learn Lua(assuming you've learnt other languahes in the first place).

And with this step Valva shalt win the MOBA genre. And arguably F2P games, because it's entirely free modding.

Like you will see communities spring up just about individual custom games that people make, which will be amazing .

Also the idea of porting custom heroes across to playtest them is a wonderful idea if we can get it to work. It's the best way to practice making fair ones that have a suitable in game niche.

Since you just can't have enough Chaos Breaker.
