Hello MOBAFIRE community,

Nice to meet all of you. :)

As a former League of Legends player, who recently received a DOTA2 key through Steam, I've just started playing this game and seem to be struggling quite a bit with the learning curve.

I guess I'll improve as I keep playing. I intend to go through some guides and pinpoint the major differences between the games. The denying system is something that is new to me, as many of you LoL players will know, and it's taking some time to get used to.

Anyway, just wanted to make a post to introduce myself and my non-existant DOTA experience.

Welcome, I also was a former LoL player. It wasn't hard for me to get used to this game, but many others have this problem as well.

Here are some helpful links:

Hi! There is quite a big learning curve, it didn't take too long for me to understand and overcome it, though. The main confusion is what champions do and how hard they actually hit (note - Earthshaker blinking into your team is bad news if you're clumped, I learned this the hard way), for me, I think. Oh and I always overestimated my mana pool.

As I was a BIG jungle player in LoL, I instantly inquired about the jungling. I got sent this video, and I found it to be really helpful, and I'd advise you to look at it if you're looking at jungling at all.

If you don't want to get flamed in game, don't call them "champions", :)

Oh yes, I always forget that. I have to correct myself every time I refer to heroes as "champions", which is very often...

Accursed word, sticking with me!

Try not to pick up my bad habit.

This is on the MOBAFire network, so you shouldn't be flamed for saying it here (not on my watch, at least!) but I've seen plenty of people in game suddenly get hated on for calling them a "champion".

Of course not, though they are technically called heroes on this game, and I get annoyed myself when I refer to them as "champions", I'm sure I corrected myself about 3 times today on Skype...

Know what you mean though, some DotA players tend to look down upon those who played LoL for some reason that escapes me...

LoL attracts a more casual audience, and DotA is a bit more... hardcore? Nothing against LoL players, just they typically lack skill (like any new player) trying to learn the game.

The only problem I have had is when I tried to introduce a LoL player to the game, he was interested in the game. First game we do bots, I show him the basics. He says he would learn better in a pub game, so we try that. He feeds hard, which that isn't the problem. We lost at around 30 minutes. He goes on to rage and complain about how OP heroes in this game are, how there is no way to beat a fed enemy, and how he is just perma-stunned so there is nothing he can do about it. He uninstalled, went on to ***** on the LoL forums about how stupid DotA is and how unbalanced the game is.

To clarify what happened: He had picked Bounty Hunter and went top with me. He fed the enemy Viper about 5 kills, he finally got tired of it and went bot. Their mid Pudge was doing well also, and basically they just snowballed and he kept being stupid and thinking he was invincible because of his invisibility.
