I'm trying to learn the role of solo mid player and have started learning some mid heroes like Puck, TA, and OD. Is there other heroes i should learn for solo mid, speaking competitively?
Also, what are the best mid heroes (in lane control)? Or probably list of heroes best suited for solo mid role and would lose much effectiveness when laned elsewhere.
Thank you.

Queen of Pain and Batrider are the big two you need to learn next, and probably Invoker too. Pudge is another common mid laner, although he's quite specialised like Invoker. Shadow Fiend is another powerful pick, maybe Tinker, and you'll probably want to get Huskar and/or Razor as anti-OD picks. There's plenty of others - Night Stalker, Storm Spirit etc, but I think the above are a good place to start. Look at the pro-game picks for ideas, counters, etc.

Agreed with Sando on Queen of Pain and Batrider. I wouldn't worry too much about Invoker, he takes a lot of time/effort to learn and is pretty rare in competitive.

Beyond that, there's a ton of options - Shadow Fiend, Storm Spirit, Magnus, Dragon Knight, Pudge, Beastmaster are all viable.

Okay, i've had some good idea and already practised some of the mentioned heroes. Just a couple of questions though:
Isn't Magnus and Beastmaster better as offlaner? What makes them win the lane if placed mid?
Same with DK, often i saw people telling DK player to go mid, won't he be better farming the safe lane rather than mid?

Magnus and Beastmaster can both play offlaner, but they'd both rather play mid if possible. In the offlane they'll be working hard just to soak some xp, and occasionally grab a few hits with their nukes. Mid they're pretty much guaranteed levels and much more farm - hence they'll be effective sooner.

Same with DK really, if he has a suitable lane opponent Dragon's Blood basically lets him ignore harassment and he can rapidly get levels in that and his nuke, quick 6 and start pushing/ganking.

As all these heroes are melee they ideally need to be picked against certain other mids, but they can all do a job in reasonably tough circumstances.

Mid is actually the best lane to be in if you're competitive 1v1 with your opponent, and if you want to get farm AND levels quickly. Safe lane usually better farm but reduced xp.

I will give you some Picks with Counters to it.

Qop < Puck (imo Puck is slightly in favour, but it is assumed as an even Matchup by any Pro)

Pudge < Storm, Invoker, Death Prophet, Sf (If Pudga is mid, get a Up-Hill ward and you Win ez, though 1 hook basically means you die, so positioning/harassment is your key)

Shadow Fiend < Windrunner,Quap (Those two can go very agressive vs SF,which bothers him a lot)

Invoker < Magnus, Puck, Pudge (Those nice COmbo Heroes, pretty much are very good vs Invoker)

Out**** Destroyer < Razor, Lone Druid (Static link and his Passive make him counter OD, LD's Bear is nice for Harassment also)

That's it for now, the most important thing about mid is, control!
Last hits are more important than denies, always remember that!If the enemies Positioning is bad, try to make him pay with autoattacks and get back to lst hits!
Enjoy Mid train!

btw : IF YOU EVER RANDOM ANTIMAGE AND AN ENEMY HAS INT IN MID
> buy a Poormans Shield, wait until 3 (2 points Q and 1 point in W) harrass the ***** out of his/her face, blink towards them and give as many autoattacks possible!EZ GAME EZ LIFE :D

Zues Blood Seeker and Night Stalker are great mid heros to learn. These heroes can get so buff in the mid lane.

Once you;re done with the regular mid heroes, Queen of Pain, Puck, Storm Spirit, etc. you could always try more situational Mid heroes for fun. 8D

Juggernaut mid is also fun to play, Blade Fury can make you, near impossible to Nuke down (if you use it at the right time) and once you get a 2nd point into Healing Ward at lvl 8, you can push Towers with ease.

There's also Timbersaw but I've yet to try him mid 8(

You can also put the likes of Dragon Knight, Lifestealer, Alchemist, Lone Druid, etc. mid if you want a greedy lineup.

Naga Siren is my favourite mid, but that's just because I rarely trust my Safe Lane Carries to Carry properly...not being greedy at all <3

Pudge is a great mid and really fun to play but you might wanna practice him in bot games first to learn his hook
