If the enemy team has a silencer, I agree the need for more defensive items, and agree with the manta. However, for your void scenario, I can just BKB out of overgrowth, and I'll be building a BKB anyway.

Only if you active BKB after Overgrowth. Smart Treant players wait till BKBs are popped, if they can, before popping their Ulti, since you pop BKB in order to fight. It's the same with Global Silence, who'd use that Ult before Black King Bars are activated??

My rule of thumb is - build Yasha if you're going to turn it into another item. Build Drum of Endurance if you're not. While not offering quite as much damage or consistent move speed, it's cheaper, offers a whole bunch of other stats, and works for your entire team.

I'd say there's not that many heroes where Manta Style isn't at least somewhat useful - besides removing debuffs, there's split push, using them to draw out abilities and all the other useful stuff. It's also a pretty stats-efficient item too.

S&Y - both underrated and overrated - there are some heroes it just shouldn't be built on, but there's others were it works very well. It can also be disassembled and made into Manta Style and Heaven's Halberd - if that doesn't seem useful, you probably built it on the wrong hero.

Best SnY hero is IMO CK, just make a SnY break it down into manta and halberd, you sometimes dont even need an armlet, just take your million illusions and use ur blink spell, damn thats like a 1 hit KO.

Nobody will be low on moustaches with you around, Xyrus. We'll probably have too much, in contrary.

Some really good insights here..

Is the consensus then, that a Manta Style should be built on every agility semi/hard carry (barring a few obvious exceptions like Ember Spirit or Razor)?

For some heroes, certain items bring greater benefits than Manta Style (eg. Bounty Hunter would rather get a Desolator).

Even though the balancing suggests not to get Manta Style on Ranged heroes, I think ranged heroes benefit the most, especially ones with an orb effect. ( Viper... etc)

Yeah "should" is too strong a word. "Can" is ok. I wouldn't say it's ever a truly terrible item on any carry type hero (including strength heroes), but it does depend on what other items may be better in the situation. The only time it's ever "bad" is when your hero has very weak stats and/or you buy it too early.
