I think this (coupled with a load of what others have said) best helps explain why he is chosen more in Pro games (which was the initial question, i just focused on the Ult's a bit much).

If you can pick someone who will do well solo offlane, a lot of times very well, it gives room for roaming supports and babysitting your #1. And, as you said, his skillset is brilliant at doing this.

Other situations wouldn't call for an offlaner, and I imagine Enigma would be preferred in these cases.

Not actually. Only 1 Black Hole required. It's 2 x 140 for Midnight Pulse + Refresher Orb + Black Hole (the "-" was there just to note a pause in speaking). - that's only 1080 mana.

^^ he does though. what happens if he is doing the middle camps? thats a good 30-45 second walk to the lane or he has to use a tp wasting his gold/tp.

you now have left yourself open to an aggro trilane.

you now have left your number 5 to roam solo. your basically free kill because if im playing against an enigma im going to get middle get one support and bottom and smoke into the jungle.

free kill.

honestly the only way to draft an enigma is to also have a roaming 5.

earthshaker enigma is an amazing duo because he can roam from level one by himself which is awesome.

and gives massive kill potential in any lane hes in.

enigma Vs Tide is simple.

one needs exceptional levels of draft reslve and massive draft changes .playstyle changes and no matter how you draft will always leave your lanes weak.

the other ....

I wouldn't say Enigma always leaves your lanes weak - you could argue that he boosts the team's overall gold income as he farms the jungle so efficiently. Is he that different from a semi-jungling Sand King for instance?

It does depend a lot on how he's played - there's a world of difference between an active jungler and an AFK one (e.g. ganking Enchantress vs Hand of Midas Enchantress), and it does depend a lot on how your safe lane duo can deal with what's against them.

This tends to be why Enigma will be a much later pick in the draft - picking him early lets the opposition set up aggro and counters.

Well you can do the rosh early with Enigma if you have some kind of micro skills...
Well you couldve in 6.81 but I never tried in 6.82

His new slam obliterates the Eidolons... Unless i'm doing something horribly wrong i don't think you can anymore.

And i think he can still be a good pick, without weakening your lanes much. But as Sando said, it has to be a late pick and is very situational.

EDIT: Just looked at it, seems i may have been doing it wrong. If you can micro them so only 2 are ever tanking it looks like it will still be possible.

Just micro better, you can still do it with a single salve for you to tank inbetwen splitting eidolons the first and second time.
