I see that Luna has a scepter upgrade, whoch turns it to like Omnislash. Why dont people buy aghs?

And what are the most underrated yet very useful afhs upgrade?

Luna's ult has a really long cooldown, so you basically spent 4200g on a 160/150/140s cooldown ultimate. If the cooldown was shorter, like it is for an agh Omnislash (70 seconds) then I can see it being picked up more. The value is not there for a better ultimate that takes more than 2 minutes to come back whereas investing on something like BKB to survive in heavy nuke teamfights or HoD/Yasha to sustain and farm faster for more items is much more worthwhile.

To answer your other question though...

It's basically just not very good. Agh's is always somewhat challenging on carries because it doesn't deliver great stats/damage increase on it's own - the aghs upgrade must be well worth it, and 2 extra lucent beams per cast is somewhat underwhelming.

Juggernaut gets 3 extra slashes, but it also reduces the CD by 40+ seconds, and frankly, it's just better anyway due to the invincibility.

When you have an ultimate with a 110+ second cooldown, the only thing you really want is a cooldown reduction. Eclipse Aghs is basically from 10 beams to (!!) 12 beams, which is a 20% increase in efficiency. And you can't even say it's an early game item because at level 1 it does...nothing.

So at best it gives you 20% more firepower. But isn't there an item that gives you +100% firepower? Actually there is : Refresher Orb.

So basically either you play refresher Luna (perfectly legit, refresher gives you some decent right-click DPS as well), or you play pure right-click Luna. Aghs upgrade is completely useless.

For an underrated Aghs upgrade, I'd say Gyrocopter. Upgrade looks completely useless on paper : why the hell would you want a global cast range on Call Down? Sure you can join fights from global range, but don't you have Town Portal Scroll for that? Actually it's an upgrade that makes Gyro one of the best counters to pushing lineups and rat dota : the ability to globally clear creep waves from full HP (625 damage at max level!) transforms all the big waves of creeps sent at you into free sacks of gold. So whenever you're up against a lineup like Nature's Prophet, Broodmother, Lycan etc, you just rush Aghs on Gyro - always get it as first item btw, it's a farming item after all. Very few carries can counterpush effectively, and Gyro is one of them - the only teamfight carry who can deal well with r[a]t.

Underrated Aghs:
Darkness: very rarely seen in pubs. Gives Night Stalker better ganking potential as well as pushing potential as he can flee before enemies come near. Overall unobstructed vision is a great utility.
Weave: A bit faster armour reduction/addition as well as maximum armour reduced/added, but the main thing is that the radius is increased by almost a half. Now you can easily get your allies and the enemies without hassle.
Macropyre: Most Jakiro players go for utility items and forget about aghs. It doubles the duration and the range and greatly increases damage per second. Great synergy with some skills like Kinetic Field or Earth Splitter.

how can a no.5 support even dream of things like Aghanims scepter. he would be lucky if he completed Blink Dagger and mana boots.

In competitive? Never. In pubs? Easily.

Assist gold, early roaming gold, farming empty lanes, kill gold...pubs is where you go Aghs-refresher on a trilane support Silencer or Warlock even if they're not really trilane supports, where your roaming support Vengeful Spirit becomes a 6-slotted carry at 50 minutes, and where your roaming Crystal Maiden goes blink-bkb-aghs-veil. And get away with it with good timings. So Blink/Aghs/sheep support Rubick = ez.

Pub supports can get extremely fed because the pace of the game is completely different. And assist gold is imba. There is no #5 position in pubs, even in trilanes, just two #4 positions that are potential #2's :)

Ever saw Singsing streams where he is playing roaming Luna or something stupid like this, doesn't farm a single creep for 20 minutes, and ends up carrying late game? The things you can get away with you wouldn't believe.

*blush* Now I am embarrassed that I often get aghs on Luna! I'll definitely try out getting a refresher orb instead

i am just assumig we are talking about pubs here. The problem is, that most of the relly usefull upgrades are for supports. Shadow Demon, Keeper of the Light, Ancient Appirition and Disruptor have great upgrades but can hardly find the farm for an aghs unless the game is going really well. Furthermore there are highly situationl pickups for Puck or Darkseer for instance. If we also take away the "mandatory"-pickups for heroes like Enchantress, Chen, Tiny, Viper, Brew master etc.etc. that leaves us with the REAL underrated pickups on cores.

My ranking for core-heroes, in term of "underrated" agha-pickups:

Night Stalker
Pudge
Pugna
Windranger - altho it has seen an improved pickup rate since 6.82
Huskar
