On many heroes default builds there is Bracer listed. I was wondering why you would get a bracer on Lina or Keeper of the Light? Why no love for Wraith Band or Null Talisman?

It's because those two Heroes don't actually have problems with mana, only HP - Bracer is only slightly more expensive than a Null and grants an extra 3 str, which equates to 57 extra HP - quite a lot for a #5 support!

Of course, ideally they'll get an Urn instead, but that's not always viable on a #5 unless they get a ****ton of ganks.

Wraith band and null talisman are there to get damage for the midlane and sometimes sidelanes.
Bracers are for surviving the first barrage of nukes if you are a squishy hero.

Yeah basically these heroes aren't interested in right click damage, so no need to match the item type with their primary stat - it's all about stacking cheap hitpoints.

I much prefer the Urn of Shadows, if possible :)

Great item for survival with HP.. Ideal for supports to pick it up early, since it can always go into a Drum of Endurance later on..

A lot of valve's default builds (especially starting/early game) are bad. 99% of the time you're better off with a wand/urn/medallion or saving for something bigger.

Tell me about it. In some cases there are 3 Ironwood branches in starting items, but no Magic Wand in Early/Core. It's in situationals or whatever, lol.

I almost never go with any of Valve's default builds, I tend to lean towards making a build based on my playstyle. For instance my core on Treant Protector is Soul Ring / Power Treads / Mekanism / Blink Dagger / Battlefury. His default is what? A Blink and a Drum and Arcanes. No way i'll ever use that build when I can go the best way.
