Hi,
I was playing this game and a guy on my team was almost dead so I cast aphotic shield on him. An enemy then hit him one more time (which normally would have killed him) and then said it was a glitch that our guy didnt die. When I told him it might be due to shield he called me everything short of complete idiot and said he used "truedmg". Then he went on asking if I even know what that was...

Now I suspect he was talking about pure damage; and yes, as far as I know it does neglect armor and resistances, but does it also neglect abilities such as aphotic shield?! After rereading the ability's description I would say no, but any feedback is welcome.

Thx,
Ghani

Im pretty sure that the shield blocks pure damage, and i se no reason why it shouldnt.

The only damage that goes through is HP removal, and that is becouse it isnt damage.

Yup the shield blocks it, and whatsmore, I'm pretty sure any "leftover" damage isn't applied - i.e. if you threw a Laguna Blade at a guy with 10 shield left, it would only burst the shield and do no further damage.

Not all. It does not block HP removal because it's not a damage type. Aphotic Shield blocks HP removal type, in Dota 1 it doesn't. Best example Rupture. This is how it works:

Aphotic Shield in Dota 2:
  • blocks damage, adds to the damage threshold needed to trigger the explosion

Aphotic Shield in Dota 1:
  • does not block damage, does not add to the damage threshold needed to trigger the explosion

This is a bug in Dota 2 which should be fixed.

No in Dota 2 Aphotic Shield blocks HP Removal when it should not. Because it's a bug. Here are the Bloodseeker bugs:

if we use some logic here, if someone punches a shield nothing happens, if someone with an enormous magical bolt of destruction, shield will still be in the way and unless it breaks, no damage.

And yes I just applied real life logic to dota, and yes, it worked. How cool is that
Do as I say, not what I do

Pretty much everything to do with HP Removal seems to be "bugged", including Borrowed Time. Can't tell whether Valve are fine with this or it's some sort of issue with Source Engine.
