I randomed Storm Spirit in pub recently, and I got hooked on him (24 kills 4 deaths, oh my!). I got his abilities and playstyle down already, but I'm just curious on what big item to build on him first other than Bloodstone and Orchid Malevolence. Could anyone suggest some to me?

Scythe of Vyse works a treat too. Occasionally you might consider Linken's Sphere, but this is generally too defensive a choice for a ganker like him. Storm needs as much intelligence / mana regen as he can get, and any active abilities that help him gank are good too.

You should definitely get an Orchid Malevolence first: the Bloodstone belongs to an "outdated" build and can be more useful only if you're playing a pub game with 4 enemy carries and no-one whose abilities are too useful not to get silenced. Personally, I usually go for the tournament " Power Treads, Orchid Malevolence, Black King Bar and Scythe of Vyse build", though I find myself getting Linken's Sphere (instead of BKB) too when there's a Bane, Beastmaster or Doom in the enemy team.

I almost never get a Bloodstone, but it certainly works in the right circumstances.

Bloodstone's ability to gather charges (1 per nearby kill) means you can end up with a LOT of mana regen from it (1 per sec, per charge), and very fast respawn times - which can be very handy for a hero like Storm. Agree though that he doesn't necessarily want the game going that late, and the utility of the other items usually comes in ahead.

Shiva's Guard is also a good item aside from the mentioned items above as it improves your survivability against physical attacks and it's active ability is good, too.

So to sum it up, I should try to stay away from Bloodstone (unless I had a good early-game), get Orchid Malevolence first, then I can choose between Sheepstick, Linken's Sphere, Shiva's Guard, and BKB (if needed). Tell me if I left anything out :)

Bloodstone all the way if you're snowballing and can get it before the 20 minute mark.

If you're not doing so well but you're not being destroyed by single target spells, go with Orchid Malevolence. If there ARE a lot of single target spells, go with Linken's Sphere.

Some situational luxuries include Scythe of Vyse, Shiva's Guard, Black King Bar, Heart of Tarrasque, and with a BKB + Linken's, if you're snowballing off the map, grab a Divine Rapier and just rape face because no one can kill you.

Dagon isn't a bad item on him of you feel pressured on farm.

If I'm snow balling I go bloodstone then heart. After that it's game over. Zip in get a kill, zip out, full health and mana, repeat. Had 47 charges on a bloodstone once. It got kinda out of hand. ha ha
