Hey everyone. Sorry for not fully updating the guide for 7.07... I've been really busy. I have written a new chapter on 7.07 briefly outlining my thoughts on the patch as it pertains to Puck. Please give that a read.

Again, I'm sorry for not quickly updating the guide.

it might work or not. it depends if its situational or not but seriously Puck sucks more than enchantress. I didn't like or dislike.

Do you think it's possible to sell your boots later in the game? You have blink, euls and Illusory Orb so it doesn't feel like you really need those boots. Especially when you get the +70% Orb Speed. In the late game I feel like Puck needs so many items but there's not enough slots.

And when do you usually buy the Aether Lens? It seems like a very good item but there's almost always something better to buy and it doesn't build into anything.

Hey Sclipzer,

It's possible, but the mobility and utility of Boots of Travel is too good to pass up. I also don't recommend the Orb Speed, since +300 gpm is good.

I actually don't buy Aether Lens all that often. The reason being that by the time I have gold and time to buy it (like after blink and euls) it has already been rendered obsolete.

Hey just wanted to let you know I think we've updated the way the skill sequence works since you last updated. Now you can select the skill you pick talents at, and you also have to mark your ult point at lvl 18. :)

Thanks for the headsup. I'm in the middle of a guide overhaul so I'll wait until I finish everything before I change it.

@SOFA

VERY INFORMATIVE GUIDE. YOU ARE REALLY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS HOW TO USE THE HERO. THE REASONS FOR THE ITEM BUILDS, THE TALENT TREE IS JUST AMAZING BUT I THINK THE MATCHUPS SECTION IS KINDA LACKING FOR EXAMPLE I SUGGEST THAT BUYING A CASUAL Wind Lace AGAINST THE Razor MATCHUP AND GOING FOR A Ethereal Blade OR EVEN A CASUAL Ghost Scepter AGAINST THE Templar Assassin MATCHUP IS GOOD. BUT STILL A VERY NICE GUIDE AND I'M SURE THAT YOUR GUIDE WILL HELP MORE PEOPLE. HAVE A GOOD DAY!! ^_^

Would the new Rod of Atos be a viable option as well?

TheSofa (54) | January 4, 2017 12:39pm
Ah, yes. Rod of Atos isn't bad at all. In fact, it's a great item on Puck. However, it just doesn't fit in the build.

As Puck, you really want Blink Dagger. Eul's Scepter of Divinity is also extremely strong on Puck. The problem with Rod of Atos is this - it's an early-game oriented item that, unfortunately, gets outshone by Blink Dagger and Eul's Scepter of Divinity.

To answer your question, it's viable and strong, but not the best.

Thanks so much for the comment,
Sofa

I would go for +8 int instead of 150 hp. Reasoning is that extra damage and int is great for puck because he runs into a lot of mana problems. Also, I would still get treads for the attack speed. Atk speed is great on puck because he usually gets a lot of right clicks on towers and heroes, etc. Without treads and the +8 int, you will have VERY little mana and you will not be able to fight effectively at all. The blink dagger does not need to be rushed so quickly. The blink should be a second big item. Blink dagger is most effective on puck when he has phase shift level 4. (this allows him to use phase shift to give him enough time to blink away even though he gets hit by someone putting his blink on a 3 sec cd) because level 4 gives him over 3.25 seconds. Also a great mention would be since you have treads the +40 damage option in the talent tree becomes more effective with atk speed.

Other than that, great guide. Your attention to detail is great, I will leave a thumbs up.

Hey Vapor24!

Thanks so much for commenting, it means the world to me.

Here's the thing about the talents: either you

1) Go for 150 health, then 20 ms, or
2) +8 int, then +40 damage.

For #1, you would skip Power Treads and go straight for other items.
For #2, you would definitely get Power Treads, not only because you need the health, but because the attack speed is awesome for the +48 damage you're getting.
You would not, however, be getting +8 int for the mana. 1 intelligence gives +12 mana, for a grand total of +96 mana.
I personally prefer #1, but #2 is just as good.
(also if you find you're short on mana, Infused Raindrops are really good).

Regarding the mana issue, personally I find that Bottle and Arcane Boots are enough.

Final thing - what do you recommend as first item on Puck if not Blink Dagger?

Many thanks,
Sofa

{DOTOFORO PLS HELP}

Hi all, Sofa here.

I've been trying to update this guide to include a midlane matchup against invoker, but I haven't got anything to say, mostly because I've lost most mid matchups against voker.

What can you do against invoker as puck?

Are there any mid lane matchups besides him that I missed?

Thanks,
Sofa

HEY! I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE SOME INFO ABOUT THE PUCK VS INVOKER MATCHUP SINCE I'M AN INVOKER PLAYER.

TO BE HONEST INVOKER CAN DEFINITELY WIN MOST MATCHUPS IF THE PLAYER IS GOOD BUT PUCK CAN STILL CONTEST TO THE LANE IF THE PLAYER IS GOOD ALSO. IF GOING AGAINST A Quas- Wex INVOKER, I SUGGEST PLAYING SAFE IS YOUR BEST BET SINCE A SUPPORT ROTATION IS ENOUGH TO KILL YOU AND QUAS WEX INVOKER SCREWS MOST SPELLCASTERS IN THE MID AND PUCK IN NOT AN EXCEPTION. BUYING EUL'S IS A GOOD CHOICE SINCE QUAS WEX INVOKERS TEND TO BUY ORCHID MOST OF THE TIME.

FACING AN EXORT QUAS INVOKER IS QUITE EASIER THOUGH SINCE Phase Shift CAN DODGE Sun Strike BUT THE RIGHT-CLICK POWER OF AN EXORT-QUAS INVOKER CAN MAKE HIM DENY MOST OF YOUR FARM SO BE AWARE OF THAT AND CONSTATLY POKE HIM TO ZONE HIM OUT. ALSO CAPITALIZE TO HIS LACK OF EARLY-WAVE CLEAR TO BOTTLE RUNES SINCE YOU WILL NEED THE MANA TO HARASS (NOTE THAT A GOOD INVOKER PLAYER WILL SEND HIS FORGE TO DENY RUNES FOR HIM)

MID-GAME TO LATE-GAME FIGHTS AGAINST AN INVOKER IS VERY NASTY SINCE HE CAN JUST BASICALLY OBLITERATE YOUR TEAM IF HE EXECUTES HIS COMBOS PERFECTLY. BUY DISABLING ITEMS FOR HIM SO HE CAN'T DO **** (HEX IS THE BEST CHOICE).

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.. HAVE A NICE DAY! ^_^

Don't know anything about Invoker, but Death Prophet is quite a popular pick right now (and also pretty stronk). Maybe you could make a mid matchup section about her also? I know you mentioned her briefly in the foes section under silences, but how well does Puck actually fare against her in a mid 1v1 matchup?

I swear I had a DP matchup somewhere...

I'm writing that right now. Thanks!

EDIT: Done.

I've recently been playing a lot of Puck, and this is one of the guides that helped me understand the hero a bit better when I started playing... it. And Puck has easily become my favourite hero. I'm surprised at the lack of discussion of Veil of Discord. Generally my item progression is Blink and Treads, then the first big item, between Dagon, Veil of Discord, Aether Lens and Eul's Scepter of Divinity. Dagon if I need single target burst (generally if they have 2 or more squishy heroes). And Veil+Aether if I need help farming (With Veil or Aether you can 1 hit a creep wave with Illusory Orb+ Waning Rift until very late in the game, and for the burst (although generally I go Aether after Dagon or Veil). Veil helps with waveclear, teamfight, tankiness, mana pool etc. It's still situational, but so is Dagon, and I think it's useful in a lot of games, and deserves a mention. Regardless, nice guide, definitely the best Puck guide on this site, +1.

Hey Eon_Theory!

Thanks so much for the positive feedback! I'm glad I could share my love for Puck with you.

I definitely agree to Veil of Discord. It was decent before 6.86, but after the patch (where they changed the build path) it's become really good. I haven't got much time to write about it, but the item is technically mentioned in the build at the top.

However, if you're going to go Veil of Discord, I wouldn't get Aether Lens as well. You probably need some big item after that, so I'd recommend Scythe of Vyse or Dagon. Aether Lens is usually paired with Eul's Scepter of Divitiniy for the range increase.

I actually have a whole paragraph on it in the drafts, I haven't gotten around to edit/publish it yet.

Thanks so much again.

Yeah, I have a feeling Puck will be viable/good in 6.87, and Veil will probably be the build, to clarify though, by Veil of Discord, Dagon, Aether Lens etc. as build, I meant deciding between those items, I don't think I've ever built Veil and Aether in conjunction. Generally if I go Veil of Discord I decide between a Dagon], [[Eul's Scepter of Divinity and Scythe of Vyse.

Hi Sclipzer!

Thanks for the input. I will add Axe in as a friend, but not for the reason you mentioned.
You see, Axe's ability, Counter Helix, is Axe's main source of damage. It requires enemies to be hitting him, which is why it goes well with Berserker's Call.
However, if Axe uses Berserker's Call to break Dream Coil, they won't be hitting him and therefore won't be proc'ing Counter Helix.

Thanks again,
TheSofa
