Well, maybe Convert is to strong a word, I enjoy both but the amount I have played DOTA 2 in the past week has been insane by my own reckoning..

Anyway, 1 small question!

I play Lich a lot and I know that is considered the "Easy Button" champion, but I honestly think I am getting really good with him and have gone 10+ kills in the last 5 or 6 games I have played.

What I was wondering is this, are there items which boost the power of certain spells? I find this the most confusing prospect to get my head around coming from LoL. Like, are there items which boost the amount of Mana Sacrifice gives me or Boosts the power of Chain Frost other than Aga. Sceptre?

I know most Items increase your Auto-Attack but I wondered if that worked for your Skills as well?

There is Veil of Discord that boosts spell damage but does not directly power-up a spell.

Like nubtrain said, there are no spell upgrade items other the Aghanim's Scepter, which only upgrades some heroes ultimates. (e.g. Lich, Viper)

Something that should be made clear, is that there are no "AP Carries" in this game. Most INT nukers/gankers tail off at mid game and the carrying of the match is left to the LoL alternative of an "AD Carry" (Just referred to as "Carry" in this game, because as I mentioned, there's only one type!).

I know this isn't about your question, but who the hell cares what people say. Play to have fun, and if Lich is fun you you, don't worry what people have to say.

Like William said there is no real "AP Carries" / items that increase spell damage unlike LoL. You will notice the spells in DotA tend to do a lot more base damage and cost a lot more mana than LoL.

I would recommend reading this if you haven't yet: http://www.dotafire.com/dota-2/guide/learning-the-ropes-a-beginners-guide-to-dota-8

It's a quite nice intro to DotA and explains a lot of differences from LoL.

Basically, all of what Mowen said is true.

However, in DotA, there are a few certain Int heroes that cast spells and do scale extremely well into late game.

Leshrac, Storm Spirit, and Tinker all come to mind.

How then, do they get better as the game goes on?

Mana. All 3 need loads of it. Leshrac's R is like a Swain ult that doesn't heal you and costs far more mana (most don't get it until 9 and don't take his E at all). Tinker's ult refreshes his abilities for a hefty mana cost, and Storm Spirit has a really, really costly ultimate.

The more mana items you get the more they hurt. They hurt because they can support that sort of spell casting. Some heroes, like Tinker, get extremely good with items too. A good Tinker can keep someone Sheepsticked for an entire fight late game by refreshing his Sheepstick with his ultimate, but that costs a LOT of mana. A LOT.

I also forgot to mention if you get a Refresher Orb the damage can be insane on some int champs.

Ahh...the wonders of using Refresher Orb on Luna. 1v5. The enemy team melted. It's hilarious.

Anyways, you guys have mostly covered it. Spells in Dota deal more base damage, instead of having items increasing spell damage (AP). Another thing to note though, is that there are some items and spells like amplify the damage taken. (Amplify Damage, Veil of Discord)

You should probably consider that Lich is afaik a supporter like many Int-Heroes because of this missing "AP".
