Just a quick question. What would be your boots choice for Kotl, Tranquils or Arcane? And under what circumstances should one buy said boots? Thanks

Seriously: Arcane Boots isn't bad if you plan to build Mekansm since both of them are components to Guardian Greaves. Mek gives health regen too, which although less than Tranquil Boots, mek has more utility for the whole team instead of the self-only Tranquil Boots. Mek also gives armor, just like tranqs. This thread got me thinking actually, maybe I'll get arcanes next time I play kotl. However I may skip arcane boots if I'm behind.

Yeah tranquils is great for a poor kotl, also keeps his HP in check. One of the main reasons I usually opt for tranquils is due to the added movement speed bonus. However, arcane is better for the team though(which is why I'm always doubting which boots is more suitable).

Is your lane partner extremely mana-hungry ( Tiny, Necrophos etc.)?
Do you plan on early teamfighting and/or deathballing?
If one of the answers to those two questions is answered with yes then Arcane Boots is a good choice. You might be thinking that Chakra Magic is enough but in some cases it is just not.

Tranquil Boots into straight up Aghanim's Scepter OR Arcane Boots into Mekansm.

If you max Chakra Magic first (almost always the best skill build BTW, going 1/1/3 into 3/1/4 and delaying ulti)...then you have enough mana to give to your team without the need for arcanes.

I think this totally sums it up. These are the most common builds, players go either one or another depending on several factors, including team composition and needs.

I play kotl like this brown boots into Mekansm into Aghanim's Scepter into different situational ****. So I mostly don't upgrade my boots But I mostly get arcanes later for the Guardian Greaves. Tranquils are better if you don't go Mekansm otherwise arcanes or don't up them.

I almost always go Tranquil Boots. You basically have unlimited mana, and can share a lot with your team, these give you essentially unlimited sustain, which is great on a #5. Bit of armour and increased movement speed is the icing on the cake, you're already extremely position dependent.

Personally, I go Urn of Shadows into Aghanim's Scepter usually. Mekansm is only really appropriate if for some reason you've had to do a shed load of long range tower defences and have built up a lot of early cash somehow (there's very few heroes who shouldn't be a #4 ahead of KOTL).

Switch to Boots of Travel later on for split pushing madness and additional slot.
