I heard my name called? Kappa

hey Kayvaan looks like your having some troubles! before i try and help ill say this.

your improving.

dont believe me?

look at your games from a bigger view point. from your first public game to the start of 6.84 you were 2 wins to 8 losses. now split that with the start of 6.84?

15 losses and TWELVE wins ... you were smashing it in wins in comparison.

now to deal with how your feeling. the way i can help is to try and explain the way of thinking i impress upon my students, its called " selective focus". try and focus on one aspect of your gameplay in each game. say your out of position all the time. throughout a game focus on WHERE you are, have that little reminder in the back of ur head saying " where am i where am i where am i" and if your not where you should be then adjust it.

Then the next game focus on your harass or last hitting or warding or xp gain or stacking.

heres a video (BLATANT ADVERTISING) that i made about decision making in dota2. i run through a fair amount of ways to affect your decision making and hopefully it helps.

good luck have fun!

also stay positive emphasize the good things u do more so the bad!

This is also a good technique, but don't just watch, actively watch! For example, if you're watching yourself get Last Hits in lane, ask yourself "why?" whever you see you missed a Last Hit. Was it because you got the timing wrong? Were you doing something else? Wwere you afraid you'd be Ganked if you took it, and with hindsight, was that what would have happenned? etc

Planning on setting aside some time to do exactly this on Tuesday. Thanks!

@Cuttleboss: Thanks so much for being willing to spend your time that way. I'll hit you up!

@Smuggels: Dude. You rock. Read both your articles that @yzreel posted and it was like you were in my head. Really helped me contextualize and get over myself. That alone was enough, but thank you for your kind words also.

I'm definitely feeling better, everyone, and more importantly I'm feeling more realistic about the place this game should have in my life. Thanks for showing me the awesome side of the Dota community.

Your amount of games is nowhere near enough to tell if you suck or not. Play more, find some heroes you like to play and comfortable with, and play them even more. This realy makes it easier to learn Dota if you don't have to learn a new Hero as well.

@Smuggels: Added. Thanks a ton, man. I'll be honest and say my presence might be hit-or-miss for a while. Grad school is my first priority and basically my job (if we wanted to continue talking about poor decision-making...) so it leaves me with limited time to really practice Dota hard, but any time we can intersect, I'll be more than glad for the help.

@masaaki/Dimonychan: Welp, I've already been to the Steam and DotaBuff forums :P Each were actually very helpful in their own ways, and I've met some solid people through them, but the DB post is starting to devolve...

Also, Smuggels, since you asked for a game to analyze; you can see the replay in-game (my in-game name is Brosephus the N00bian btw), but here's the DotaBuff of my most recent game: http://www.dotabuff.com/matches/1658716232

Now usually I can say where I made mistakes but usually point out another factor that lead to a loss, such as a bone-headed carry or poor coordination on multiple fronts. However, this one I felt I did particularly bad on, maybe even going so far as to say that I lost us the game. I was over-eager for kills and never took the time to back off and regenerate. We got caught-out a LOT. Team-mates accused me of being over-aggressive and not careful in setting up team-fights and they were right, but again it's a general "attitude" rather than something I can pin-point.

I mean, looking at my last half-dozen games, the easy answer is "Don't play Centaur," and I'm fine with that, but I still want to look at the deeper issues :P

Kayvaan, where you're at; play whatever the hell you want and try to have fun doing so. Pick a hero, play that hero for a couple of games. If this hero is not for you, fine but at least you tried that hero and learned a bit of how that hero plays so you can play against it a bit better. Once you got a hang of playing most or all heroes, pick a couple of heroes you really like and master those.

Each hero have varying playstyles that help with some core fundamental skills. Ex: Sniper needs good positioning to survive most of the time, Centaur needs to be able to execute his executions well and pay attention to the map and Queen of Pain requires both of those core skills.

Focus on improving fundamental skills

Have 500 hours of bot matches

like everyone else said just keep playing normal pub matches. And don't think those 500 hours of bot games has made you good in any way. I even advise friends who just start to finish the tutorial and the other things the training stuff gives you and then hit PvP on all pick straight away (some people didn't even get to finish the tutorial XD) I have done this in most MOBA's I have played. As the difference between bots and PvP is just way to big.

also on trying heroes some heroes just need a lot of practise and others feel more like "I have been born to play these heroes"
I would almost say just random (still not a good idea as a 5 carry team is almost doomed to fail)
In love with the random button
