(I like how I'm spamming this part of the forum)
I've been trying the carry role for quite a while, and mostly I just cant farm fast enough letting the enemy carry get ahead of me which almost ensures a loss.
http://www.dotabuff.com/matches/1600126921 Take this match for example.
The enemy Wraith King had a Desolator, MKB and Heart up while I was struggling to complete my Skadi. Silver Edge alone allowed me to take down Sniper and PA without a hassle, but WK was the real threat who got way out of hand late game.
Any sort of tips to farm as a carry would be appreciated, and maybe you guys can suggest any particular pro-level replays that I could learn from?
Very difficult looking at this game to see where you'd pick up farm - the issue is everyone on your team is competing for it, so last hits are hard to come by. This leaves farming enemy heroes as your only option.
Don't get me wrong, there's lots you can do to improve your GPM (being good at spotting where farm is available, stacking with items like Helm of the Dominator etc) but by the look of this game, you're not playing at a level where you're getting any priority from your team.
You're playing Slark, one of the most evasive heroes in the game, against a team with literally zero catch. Wraith King without blink? Jakiro without Euls? No way they can gank you.
This means that you can pretty much farm the enemy jungle and cut down creep waves under the enemy T3 towers whenever you want. What can happen to you? Nothing.
Slark is not just a solo ganker. He plays a lot like Anti-Mage, constantly farming in very aggressive places and split pushing all game long.
I agree that Storm Spirit and Axe are some of the biggest gold sponges in the game and some of my least favorite teammates in pubs since all they ever do is steal farm. But Slark can farm in places they can't.
TLDR : be Anti-Mage. Be out of position all the time, farm ultra-aggressively and get solo kills on the enemy side of the map.
Were you using the jungle? Dark Pact makes quick work of creep waves and jungle creeps. Its not really that hard. Thye had no lockdown, so you basically had everywhere to farm. Make sure to use Dact Pact to push waves and towers for constant income.
@Blubbles
I tried to farm jungle whenever I could, but felt like my team simply cant hold up in teamfights without me (basically I was the only one who could do any significant damage to WK, and the game slipped out of our hand when he grabbed Aegis somewhere around the mid-late game...) not to mention their supports were playing really well - as you can see, CM was launching Glimmer Cape Aghs ults while I was the only one who bothered to get dust meaning without me she could easily take down 2-3 guys.
@Smuggels Pls tell me when you do so :) I'd love to see an analysis of my game.
I notice in your skill build you maxed pounce first. Why? Were you in a lane where you had lots of chances for kills? Pretty much all the time I play slack, I'll go max dark pact asap with a value point in his other skills, then I'll max pounce, then essence shift. While maxed pounce gives you a lower cool down and more damage, maxing dark part first lowers its mana, provides damage, and allows you to jungle semi-effectively at clean up lanes at level 7.
Also your team in this case had the better skirmishing lineup. Pudge hook into a slark and storm? Ez kill. If you had maybe used a couple of aggressive smokes and gotten pickoffs, and would've helped
Back to the subject at hand: slark farms pretty fast thanks to dark pact. Stack a large camp a couple times, and once he has max dark pact he can clean it out with 2-3 uses. He jungles relatively quickly, he fights well early, he farms both creeps and heroes, etc. the thing is, you have to recognize opportunities to farm said things. For instance, you see four enemy heros down bot, and your in radiant offllane. Now would be a good time to push radiant t1 and either destroy it, use glyph, or force a rotation which you should be able to escape from. Honestly, their team had literally nothing that you couldn't dodge, Disjoint, and run away from.
