Introduction

Author Introduction

Hello this is Afkz I'm a former high rated Dota Player I quit Dota a few years back however was playing HoN. While playing HoN my rating was 1900+ with bouncing around the 1900 bracket highest was 1986. I wasn't on a team during HoN due to my work schedule however with Dota 2 ill be looking to play competitive with this game as well. I stream 6 days a week for majority of the day on twitch.tv/afkz and been making guides for my viewers that request them. Reason why I'm making a Brewmaster guide is he is one of my favorite heroes if not the favorite of mine. I have a lot of experience with him in the original Dota and now he is finally release I'm playing him like crazy in Dota 2. I see so many people who don't understand the hero or how to counter it so hope this helps the community out with this hero! I try to keep all my real guides as detailed as possible so if there is anything at all you think I'm missing and could be added please tell me I tried to make sure there was nothing missing this goes for all my guides.

Hero Introduction

Brewmaster is a very unique and fun hero that takes a lot of getting used to be considered good with this hero. How well you manage you ultimate will really make or break the type of Brewmaster player you are. He is a great team asset as he provides multiple types of crowd control in and out of his ultimate. This hero is micro intensive hero unlike many of the others and you have to be willing to learn his micro if you don't I wouldn't bother with this hero then. Brewmaster is well a master at making many brews and because of this he has so many types of role he can fill for his team such as ganker, iniator, tank, and carry.

Pros and Cons

Pros
- Strong Aoe Slow both to movement and attack speed by 55% on both when maxed.
- Able to put a 75% miss rate on a single hero good carry counter.
- Passive crit 25% chance to do 200% more damage.
- Passive 25% chance to dodge attacks including towers.
- Able to fill multiple roles such as ganker, iniator, tank, and carry.
- Ult gives a single target stun and a cyclone and aoe purge
- Good survability with his ultimate.

Cons
- Lacks mobility outside of his ultimate
- Need good micro in order for his ultimate to become good.
- Ultimate dependent for team fights depending on role.

Stats and Lore

Deep in the Wailing Mountains, in a valley beneath the Ruined City, the ancient Order of the Oyo has for centuries practiced its rights of holy reverie, communing with the spirit realm in grand festivals of drink. Born to a mothers flesh by a Celestial father, the youth known as Mangix was the first to grow up with the talents of both lineages. He trained with the greatest aesthetes of the Order, eventually earning, through diligent drunkenness, the right to challenge for the title of Brewmasterthat appellation most honored among the contemplative malt-brewing sect. As much drinking competition as mortal combat, Mangix for nine days drank and fought the elder master. For nine nights they stumbled and whirled, chugged and struck, until at last the elder warrior collapsed into a drunken stupor, and a new Brewmaster was named. Now the new, young Brewmaster calls upon the strength of his Oyo forebears to speed his staff. When using magic, it is to his spirit ancestors that he turns. Like all Brewmasters before him, he was sent out from his people with a single mission. He wanders the land, striving toward enlightenment through drink, searching for the answer to the ancient spiritual schismhoping to think the single thought that will unite the spirit and physical planes again.

*Notes*

-When the spell ends, the Brewmaster takes Earth's place. If Earth is dead he takes Storm's place, and if Storm is dead he takes Fire's place.
-The Earth warrior has every aura of the Brewmaster (Such as Vlads or Assault Cuirass). If the Earth warrior dies, the auras will move to Storm, then Fire.
-All of the warriors possess the Resistant Skin passive ability. Skills that have separate effects for heroes and creeps (such as Enchantress' Enchant) will use the hero effects when targeting the warriors. In other words even though they are considered minions in a sense other hero abilities that effect creeps don't work on these spirits.

Skill Usage

Thunderclap

Majority of the time this will be your starting spell it gives an amazing movement and attack speed slow. Most forget it even reduces attack speed and that really helps those fights and the movement slow is what makes it devasting when you catch most of their team in it. If you land this right your team should be able to follow in and land their cc no problem with this on them. It also allows you to stay on your target to get more crits in plus the damage it does is no laughing matter early game.

^This shows how big the aoe is on this spell

Drunken Haze

This spell really shines late game when the late game carries start taking over the game. This hurts their carry so bad providing a good control on them 75% miss rate if they don't have a way to dispel it. I try to put this on the carry early to make them blow their cooldowns to be able to do damage then dispel the BKB ect.. with the ult then stun them and soon as the ult is done if they are still alive them use it again. This spell does provide a slow however it is very small but can make or break a kill still so don't be afraid to use it for the slow when needed, but try and keep it on the carry.

^This shows the range on Drunken Haze

Drunken Brawler

Drunken Brawler is why Brewmaster can be a carry for his team giving him 25% chance to do 200% damage. This is huge and makes up for most of your damage while not using your spirits. This ability scales extremely well into late game when it really starts to shine, but even early on its still no laughing matter. Even though the crit alone makes this spell awesome the 25% miss just makes this ability amazing. The miss rate really adds to your survability helping you be a beefy dps and the miss chance even works on towers! Keep in mind though you can't stack other miss chance items like a butterfly as they do not stack.

Primal Split

As you know when you use this ability it summons the 3 different primal spirits. However this spell isn't used to just summon them there are still other uses for them. One of them is the ability to dodge incoming crowd control before it lands on you by using the ability right before it lands you still split but become immune to the incoming cc if timed correctly. Also this spell can be used to provide additional survability by going out fighting and soaking up as much damage as you can then using Primal Split to fight again with the full hp Spirits or to even use it as an escape mechanism. All these are all correct ways to use the spell however there is a time and place for each one and some of these methods puts you in risk and you must understand that.

For example if you wait to long to use your split and get stunned because you didn't use it fast enough you can be bursted down if they lock you into a cc train. Also if you try to absorb to much damage and then decide to split most of your team may be to weak to fight or maybe dead by the time you split which is extremely bad since your ultimate is a team breaking providing 2 crowd controls and aoe purge so keep these in mind when deciding when to use the ability.

^ shows how your hero is immune at this point in time to crowd control so time it accordingly. Ill show a video later on how to dodge spells.

Primal Spirit Abilities

Hurl Bolder

This provides you with a 2 second stun with a range of 800 and a cooldown of only 7 seconds! Yes only 7 this is huge you can constantly be stunning soon as the cooldown is up at max rank of your ultimate and with the scepter you have your spirits for 26 seconds. Within that time you can easily stun 4 times with this ability and you need to make sure you do in team fights make a big impact on the game. The damage is something to even worry about just the cc you gain from it.

^This shows you how large the range is on this stun so you have an idea how to use it.

Spell Immunity

Not awhole lot to say about this spell except with the magic immunity its easy to tank with and if you need to run its hard for them to stop you even though you don't run very fast with earth.

Pulverize

This ability is often ignored because it does negligible damage even if you have the chance to auto attack with Earth for the whole duration.

Dispel Magic

This spell has a huge impact on team fights and the sad part is your average Brewmaster player never uses it and they need to fix that can really turn the tide of the fight. This counters Dazzle's and Omniknight's ult extremely well and many other things check out the section below for a full detail list of everything you can dispel.

^Another shot showing how long the range is on Dispel Magic.

^Showing the radius on the Dispel Magic

Cyclone

Cyclone in my opinion is to good for this guide yet so many Brewmasters don't use it enough! This spell cyclones Heroes for 6 seconds on a 8 second cooldown. That means when your ultimate is maxed with a Scepter you can use this spell 4 times which is 24 seconds of cyclone! make sure to use this spell on cooldown and use it effectively on the Heroes you want to take out of the match if you do it right you can mop up a team while one person is disabled majority of the time by just you.

^Range on Cyclone.

Windwalk

More often than not you will be using this spell for the extra damage it does which is 100 bonus damage. This spell has a 7 second cooldown so the extra damage can add up quiet well. The escape isn't bad if your fire and earth are in trouble of dieing you can then just windwalk away which lasts 20 seconds. Another important part to know is that this spell also increases your movement speed by 50% so if a target is getting away and you can't catch up use this to break the distance and then cyclone him so everyone else can catch up.

Permanent Immolation

This spell actually does a lot of damage if you have him place right in the team fight, but please keep in mind he has low hp smart teams will know this and can take him out fast to prevent this damage. Its also good to know that the Fire Spirit runs as the max run speed in this game and because of this you can use this Spirit to block heroes who are either running away or chasing your team plus the damage they are taking from the aura helps.

^Shows what heroes look like when under the effect of your immolation aura and how large it is.

Skill Order

This is a pretty basic way to build him however you won't be able to build this way every game. A lot of people get so focused on a certain build like this is the only way you can build him its just not the case you have to build for how the game is going, who you are up against, what role are you filling, and what team make you have. This is one of the best builds for the tank route however if you plan on going the ganker route you may need to put some points into the stats early on since you will be lacking the mana needed because you are rushing a blink dagger. The same thing can be said about the carry route as well I won't be making multiple skill orders because there is a billion of them and it would only confuse you so use this as a base line and decide from there.

Item Build Explanation

Brewmaster has various roles can fill and because of this I will be listing multiple build orders for him for each role he can play as.

Ganker/Initiator Build

This build is assuming your not mid solo however if you are and can lane control well I suggest getting a bottle to control the runes it helps the flow of the game a lot and let you gank even better. Mid solo is good on Brew when the team line up allows it.

Starting items :
img=http://cdn.solomid.net/dota2/items/healing_salve.png]
Depending on good you are at last hitting and what lane comp you will be facing you can switch the hatchet for a stout shield. Other than that this gives you good regen, stats, and the ability to last hit extremely well with his really smooth last hit animation.

Core items :

A lot of people add Scrolls into their build however I don't because I think by now everyone should know that you should always carry scrolls on you with pretty much every hero not only to help your team when its needed, but also as an escape for yourself.

With this build I decide to go power treads since you will have your blink dagger early to start the fights you don't need phase boots because of this. You want to rush your blink dagger as fast as you can a good way to learn if your getting ti fast enough try to have it by the 20 minute mark anything before that is great. Aghanims is an awesome item on Brew for the fact it lets your ult last 26 seconds! The thing is though since you are iniating for your team you need to get blink first.

Situational items :

Keep in mind that since you are starting the fights with your blink dagger you need to be able to survive! Now with your ultimate it isn't that hard however before you get it off you can be stunlocked or silenced down while they focus you when you jump in. So take procaution build items so you don't run into this problem.

Blademail is something you want to look for when they got a strong carry and this is your way of helping to counter him with this plus you 75% miss from Drunken Haze you can stop them in their traps pretty well.

Black King Bar is an item most iniators end up getting due to being focus right away soon as you get in. This item is also great since if they can kill you before you can ult your really hurting your team and this makes it so that they can crowd control you down to death.

***ualt Cuirass you can get when you team doesn't have one and it fits the line up well. This item will give your team more damage output while also increasing you survability against physical choose this item only when you team allows it and it works well for your team and provides the boost you need base on the team your fighting.

Satanic will allow you to stay in the fight that much longer. When late game comes around this allows you to soak of even more damage for your team before or even after your ultimate.

Heart is something I don't usually get often however it can increase your survability a lot and the best part about it is the regen it gives for when your ult is going you regen a lot of hp.

Pipe of Insight this item is needed when your facing a good amount of casters and you and your team needs some survability against that. It gives lot of regen and the shield it gives your team is so good. However don't upgrade to the Pipe if someone else on your team is getting it.

HoD Creep List

There are many neutral creeps you can possess and use Ill update this more in the future right now Im just showing you the ones you will mainly use.

-Big centaur gives stun and attack speed aura. Good for late game.
-Big bird gives the tornado spell and +3 armor aura.
-Big shaman gives the net ability. This allows you to stay on the target its one of my favorites for Brew.
-Little satyr with purge. This can be useful if you need a purge outside of your ult
-Big furbolg gives a thunderclap spell.
-High Priest in small camp. Gives a good mana regeneration aura that stacks with other auras.

Crystal Maiden - She is an amazing support with just about any hero and Brewmaster is no exception. With her stun and aoe slow tied up with your slow and your crit early game you can easily land a kill in your lane if you time it with your partner well enough you can keep them slowed or stunned the whole time.

Lina - She has a lot of burst damage tied with a great aoe stun if the player is good at landing it then shes an amazing lane partner with Brew. If you can go in and slow makes it easy for her to land a stun then with her dragon breath and your crit you guys are doing some serious damage and depending on the lane combo your going against can land a early kill.

Lion - He just provides so much cc I mean who doesn't love a Hero who can double cc? I know Brewmaster loves it gives him much needed auto attack damage in to get those crits. Make sure to coordinate your slow with his aoe stun and hex you guys don't want to overlap your cc if possible to get the most out of it.

Dazzle - He provides a heal which nukes in aoe and a single target slow which allows you to close the distance on to the target to easily land your slow on top of that which can net an early kill. Later in the game his shallow grave gives you additional time to stay in your normal form if your doing a carry build to abuse your ult. His ult is no laughing matter either giving your team a lot of armor and reducing their teams armor allows you to get a lot more damage in as well when team fights come around.

Venomancer - He gives you a very strong early laning presence when he goes with both of his slows. Basically having a perma slow on the target that is ranged allows you to easier close the distance and use your slow plus get a lot of auto attacks and crits in because of it. Most teams are forced to run away when you start which in return just gives you even a bigger trade. Make sure to be aggressive with this line up and have Venomancer pull your lane a lot to setup more kills.

Foes
Doom Bringer - He counters most people who gain a lot from their ults and Brewmaster is no exception. If you get doomed before you get your Primal Split off you are lossing out on so much crowd control and it can really make and break the fight. When fighting against him make sure your positioned well and if your team can't bait the Doom and your team really needs the cc ult as the fight is starting.

Naix - He counters most heroes with large HP pulls like Brewmaster. Outside of your ultimate he should be able to wreck you so make sure you have team support when dealing with Naix you will not be able to take him 1v1 unless you are fed and he is not.

Rikimaru - His cloud is extremely strong without being able to use your abilities let alone your primal split will make fighting him really hard. Most riki's will get a Diffsual Blade to either keep you in the cloud to kill you or to instantly kill one of your spirits most likely the storm one if he is smart. Make sure to have a team mate that has force staff to make sure you can get out of the cloud to get the Drunken Haze on him and the ability to use Primal Split to help cc him down.

Shadow Demon - He is always good against other carries for how his Q scales so you have to watch out because the images he makes of you can crit you as well which really adds up to a lot of damage. Not only do you have to worry about the damage he does if you do use Primal Split he will more than likely just use his purge on your storm spirit so you loss out on a lot of your crowd control. Just be prepared for this and try to have your team be able to jump him and focus him down.Friends

Bugs? Guess we will see

I'm not sure these are intended, but I might as well list them in case they decided to make it this way.

Because your Spirits count as Ancients a lot of spells don't work on them so I will make a list here of different abilities that don't work on the Spirits.

-Enigma's Blackhole
-Kunka's Ghosthip
-Axe's Battle Hunger
-Shadow Demon's Shadow Posion

I will continue to this list when I found out more or if they get changed.

Also Diffusual instantly kills the Spirit its used on this should be intended however I felt it was good to add this in here as many may not know and its a strong counter to his storm spirit.

VODs

Primal Spirit Micro
This video below is a prime example that shows how strong your crowd control lock down is on a single target my crystal maiden has no life and is rupture but using my Primal Split I lock him down for 16 seconds and even in case I messed up my cc I have my Fire Spirit in place to block his path through the trees to get to my Crystal Maiden.

Brewmaster Tank Build into Semi Carry
I'm playing with viewers and giving **** to a friend who is trying to learn the game, but has potential so that is why I'm harsh with him, but it provides comedy relief.

Brewmaster Ganker/Iniatator Build
I'm playing with viewers here mainly just trolling people however I dominated the game hard early and mid with a quick blink dagger. I'm messing around the whole game for the streams entertainment however there is some good micro with Primal Split and shows how strong Brewmaster can be starting fights.

I will be adding a lot more however most of my better games I don't have recorded so I will get some more for you. Right now you have this random VOD of me playing with viewers as Brewmaster.
