Ember Spirit is so damn squishy if he gets caught, he feeds the snowball to the other team. If he goes the BF build, he can only clear waves, not buildings. This makes him viable for a megacreep defence, not a megacreep win.

Ember spirit is so strong with just BF early. If you start considering lockdown on him, also consider lockdown on ember's team. Heroes like Enigma or Magnus make Ember the hardest damage dealer with just his sof.

Have you seen a snowballing Shadow Fiend? It's pretty terrifying. Since Blink/SB is core on him, it's really hard to escape once he has a lead. Not only that, but he's strong all all points in the game past 3 minutes so your only hope is that he doesn't end it as soon as he can and your hard carry can man up against him.
