I have 400 games or more playing with Nyx assassin, and I can safely say that dagon is a core item for him. Most characters who pick a dagon up are pure cheese builds because they put off more important items giving them a mid game boost but late game the wasted gold deters them. Nyx doesn't have more important items to build so it pairs perfectly in his skill set and is achievable with his low farm. Flurry tinker is viable, and to some extent necromorph as well.

No problem with a Dagon 1 in the right hands or situation...Dagon 5 is extremely poor value for money. Great on of obvious reasons, other than that, only as part of some crazy magic resistance reduction strat or when you're getting close to 6 slotted...and even then there's usually better items.
