I'm trying to climb the ladder from my *gulp* 1k MMR trench. But you really cannot climb out when you are literally 1v9. How I got myself into this trench... calibrating my MM rirhgt at ol' level 13 compared to my lvl 63 now... please i really just need to get up to 3k then ill actually start working on my gameplay and whatnot.

Im think of just spamming ursa every game at this point. Literally that level of grind.

Some Instances of When I was 1v9:
I first pick Od and call mid with the intention of not having mid stolen. Pudge then proceeds to lastpick and take mid. Because Pudgess can do alot more with XP than OD's

The Phantom Lancer against an offlane Spirit Breaker has all the room in the world to farm. He then uses the space created to get a
Vladmir's Offering into Sange and Yasha. He also chooses to use the jungle instead of the entire lane with nobody in it. Smart.

Enemy has picked Medusa. Captain insists on picking Ursa rather an Anti-Mage or PL.

I wrote this response a while back to a guy who asked if there was a hero you could just outfarm the enemies with.

Cuttleboss wrote:

It's not something you should try to do, since fighting is much easier to win with than farming, and having a "I must farm all the time" mentality is really not healthy.

But if you want some heroes that can carry bad allies on their own, here's the full list:
  • My accomplishments

As you may notice, it's empty. That's because this is a team game, and being the one guy ahead of the enemies in farm doesn't mean a lot if the enemies lead all you allies in net worth, you're still playing 1 against 5 in a game that has halberds, abyssals, silver edges, and other things that'll make solo freefarm dota very hard.

Here are some candidates for possibly afk farming yourself to victory:
Anti-Mage, Sven, Juggernaut: These dudes can farm very quickly, and can potentially get a rampage with their ultimates if used well, and can offer a decent degree of splitpushing as well.

Medusa: You can farm fast, and in many drafts, it can become impossible to teamfight against you once you have that farm. She is much easier to counterpick than the 3 cleavers, and less mobile than them.

Arc Warden, Lycan, Lone Druid: These three can farm quickly, and rely entirely on splitpushing in order to win, manfighting and wiping them is not really an option, but killing their buildings super fast is the way to do it, and these 3 are unbelievable at it.

But if you really want to know how to climb out of the trench, pick Abaddon, get soul ring into vlads and aghs, taking as many towers as you can, play a support role, and use your aphotic shield to purge stuns and keep your allies healed up. You will win about 7 out of 10 of your games, and with some effort, you will leave the trench.

You're so delusional it's not even funny. Do you seriously believe that for a legit 3k player stomping 1k would be any difficult and his team would matter in a long run?

Also it's really dumb to think that a team that plays on 1k level(who'd think they would, in 1k bracket! :O) plays against you. Somehow ppl don't remember the games when enemy team was doublemid or when enemy carry built some ******ed ****(Vlad's and SnY on PL isn't gameruin at all in 1k bracket) and lost the game. 8^) Gee y does dis sheet only happen to me Gabe pls... 8^)

You don't need any specific hero because you can win with pretty much any hero there. What you need is an attitude check. Even if your mechanical skill and game sense are 3k level, your attitude is like 100 MMR level. Stop being delusional about how you are forced to play 1vs9, stop paying attention to you team's mistakes, stop thinking that your team holds you down and it's some type of a horrible Gaben conspiracy to keep ultra high-skilled you from well-deserved 3k.

I know that sound like a flame post or something, but that's actually the best advice one can give you at this point. The hero you need to win in 1k is you. Gl.

If you're at 1K MMR, why do you expect anything from your team? Of course they're scrubs, so they do scrubby things. Were you expecting anything else?

If you're complaining, that means you had expectations, but you were disappointed in your expectations. While you should have zero expectations in the first place.

Instead of complaining, you could be having a blast stomping scrubs :)

First, I salute you for having the courage to step out and say, "I'm nowhere near where I want to be, and I need help." This, in my mind, sums up your problem:

Instead of seriously trying to analyze your mistakes, you mask your problems with a highly-exaggerated excuse. Don't take it personally, I am just trying to help.

If you've been in 1K for THAT long, I can guarantee that your problem isn't simply, "I'm not playing the right heroes." You probably have some very bad habits ingrained in you.

I would recommend that you post your Dotabuff and ask people to watch and analyze your recent matches. Make detailed notes about your mistakes and make a game plan for correcting them.

Some of my biggest improvements came after a 4K friend (I was 2K at the time) watched some of my replays and told me that I spent way, way, way too much time waiting for something to happen rather than being proactive. Actually, this guy never gave me advice like, "Just build this hero" or "just spam this item". He always gave me "big picture" advice that made me understand the entire game in a better light.

I also make a point to watch the best players play and I take copious notes on what they do.

I used to think like you. I had the 1v9 mentality (callibrated at 1.5k). Though what I did to get out was play support heroes which improved my game sense a lot. I had 0 losses on my road to 2k (after I got serious)

Everytime I play against a 1k player, I usually dominate the match because the difference in skill level is fairly big.

Focus on your self, improve your mechanics, etc. Even if you did spam a hero, what will you do when someone counters or picks that hero?

But if you really insist on spamming a hero then pick what people would call baby heroes. Like Riki or Ursa since no one will really try to counter because they don't want to or understand how to.

Blubbles, you've played with us before? granted atm i'm really busy exploring PoE and i can't kick it for some reason, but you've played with dotafire people before right? Every time we play, i really learn loads from the high 5k players, and even the 4k players like smuggs. I think that really contributed the most to me getting to my 3k mmr, and i even think i can get even more if i spent more time.(again, i'm addicted to PoE atm, someone help me pls, there's too many stuff to play T.T)

In 1k mmr, yes everyone is scrubs. BUT, that also means that if you've spent that long a time playing mmr, and you're still stuck at 1k mmr, maybe that means that you yourself need to improve. I'm sure you've heard that i calibrated at 13 too, at 1.2k mmr no less. i even dropped to 800 at one point. i don't like telling this story because it really sounds like bragging, but after not playing ranked for 3-4 months, i went back and steamrolled my way to the 3k breakpoint just before reborn. My Win-Loss ratio during that period of time was ridiculous, something like 7-8 out out 10 games won. that's the difference when you are better than your mmr, that's what should be happening.

Even if you are only a little better than your mmr, and win 6/10 games, you'll be slowly climbing, and you will reach your actual mmr sooner or later. The trick is to work on your gameplay, while you are playing. pick a small pool of heroes to play, preferably strong meta heroes. spectre 6.86 was a prime example, he was pretty strong by himself, and scales insanely well into the lategame. Work on how to best play them in every situation, and by the time you actually reach 3k, you'll be able to stand your ground.

Right now, i can bet if i look at one of your replays, i'll see you making tons of the same small mistakes over and over again, or not playing the most effective way. If you would just fix some of that, you'll get to 2k really easily, and maybe even 3k.

Oh, and don't play captain's mode in 1k, heck don't even touch captain's mode unless you are playing in a party. it's not worth the time.

Thanks Misaaki for giving me the facts without being r00d *cough cough Dimony cough*. I have in fact played with the Dotafire bunch and had a really good time and learnt alot since everyone is very nice and cooperative. Indeed I did make this thread in somewhat of an excited rage (my vision got a little blurry and red) from a very bad match.

But what I'm saying here is how can you climb even a little when you have a ball and chain of a team? Not to say that I dont make mistakes. I actively try to make myself better. I download replays of bad games to see what I did wrong. But really even when you stomp, how do you do anything. Like I went 21-10 with PA or soemthing, I had a Rapier by the end, yet my team couldnt seem to teamfight or push well enough to really do anything with the feed.

Anways let me rephrase the question: what hero can I basically solo the enenmy team with. I'm thinking Medusa or something liek that.

I'd Also like to point out the fact that I don't think its a matter of my personal skill. My non-ranked match are fantastic. I get good teammates on a regular basis, they have mics, they know how to push, and they know when to pull out. Im not getting this at the 1k tier. Now I'm not trying to brag here by any standard because I am still 1k MMR. But I think I could easily be 2.5 - 3.5k.

There is no hero capable of playing 1v5 against the enemy, unless the enemy doesn't know how to play for ****.

That said, there are some heroes that, when played well, can lighten the load of your team by tons.

Medusa and Spectre, the 2 hyper carries.

Medusa, when farmed, is a nearly unstoppable tank that slowly kills you and your buildings. Unless you have a hero to burn through her mana fast, you will have a hard time, since Medusa can just sit outside your base and poke down your towers while tanking everything you throw at her. She is quite weak before she gets any items and levels, but gains an insane power spike with skadi.

Spectre, in contrast to the Medusa who tanks everything, kills everything. He has the advantage of being able to enter fights as and when he likes because of haunt. This means that Spectre is basically in every fight as long as his ulti is up.

Lycan, wolves need no armour. Necro 3 and vlads in 20 minutes, proceed to melt enemy towers, nuff said.

Clinkz, is a good hybrid, being able to push well and kill things really fast. Also, invis forces enemy supports to buy detection. If they don't, then they lose.

Furion is another good hybrid, being able to push well and has an insane map presence.

There was( ), but no longer.
I'd say Slark is the best bet now, this hero is beyond ridiculous now. Also Naga. Seems like those heroes will net you an easiest win and there's at worst only 25% chance they both get banned.

*cough cough Dimony cough*

Well if I got my point across and you understood that it begins with you and the attitude then this rudeness wasn't futile.
