Pros
-High burst damage
-Great survivability tool
-an easy escape when combined with blink dagger
-Lots of neg damage which can help your other carry get some easy kills
-spam-able spells with low mana costs
Cons
-Both survivability tools can be fairly easily countered (invis detection/damage over time)
-initially low hp and range
-....thats about it, there is a reason why this hero got nerfed recently
I get basic regen with iron branches to rush a bottle
Although some prefer treds, i prefer phase, the extra damage and chase synergize nicely with with your traps and neg armor.
medalion is the most cost efficient way to increase your damage early, with this item and meld alone you get 14armor reduction, combine this with deso and your talking about -20armor just by yourself, imagine having a slarder on your team
next is blink, because of your medalion and phase your pretty good in the damage department, and because of the max refraction your pretty survivable, so now getting a blink dagger for easy kills is a good choice.
next there are some options, you can opt for deso, or you could get an mkb (if the enemy has evasion) or you could even get an orchid if your against an anti mage or storm spirit (the soul burn 25%damage also synergies with your high burst but low sustained damage), but i'd recomend deso at this stage or a daedelus if you have another source of -armor on your team.
maxing refraction first makes it far easier to last hit and makes you immune to harassment, it also gives more damage when using psi blades to spill damage +if you max it by 7 u'll have far more damage than anyone in the game (at that time) and you will be able to tower dive while ganking far easier.
One level of meld is high enough becuase of your medalion, this will compensate for the low -2armor and level one.
Friends of this hero are other high dps heroes and those with -armor, heroes such as bounty hunter, naga, and slarder fit this bill, also some heroes such as invoker (cold snap forge spirits) and drow can be really useful in ganks.
There are two types of enemies that counter this hero=her best friends, slarder and bounty, and also those with damage over time, obvious heroes that fit this bill are huskar, batrider, invoker and even just an urn.
