Thanks to everyone for the comments and votes. As requested, I added some color and a section on choice of boots.

I personally think that Dagon is way better than Aghanim's Sceptre if you're looking for more burst, and there are FAR better interrupt items for that cost (Eul's Sceptre, Scythe of Vyse, Orchid Malevolence, etc), and even a Black King Bar or Soul Booster would help Ogre more than the stats from the Agh's.

While I'm happy with the recent Multi cast change compared to before, I still don't think it's worth taking at L6, considering how awesome your two main nukes are if you max them out ASAP. I mean, you could take Multi cast at level 9 if you wanted, after max'ing Fireblast and Ignite, but Bloodlust can be pretty useful too, so I don't really see why you'd take Multi Cast before level 10+11, when you can jump from a 25% chance of "a good proc", to a 60% chance very quickly.

It's not so much the mana cost as the opportunity cost of taking L1 Multi cast over something else at that point - it's just not good enough to merit the tradeoff. With later multicast, there's also the advantage that Ogre Magi suddenly becomes much more dangerous all of a sudden, which is a nice surprise to pull on your opponents ("gee, he didn't nuke that hard a few minutes ago!"). If you combine this with the timing where you also have an Orchid or a Veil, you're going to get some kills...

I like that you can still cast it on very low mana, but if you used it early in a fight it's massively expensive. This leaves you with a stun that you can only really use in dire emergencies. Sure the stats are nice, but there's plenty of other items that can do a lot more for the same money, and Ogre isn't usually awash with gold at the best of times. Needs another buff imho.

True that, I only ever use the aghs stun when i am in a real nail biter.
Otherwise i wait till it costs even marginally reasonable.

Just something to put out there, ultra late game refresher ogre, lol that would be FUN.
Though given that you have minisucle cooldowns it is just only for the laughs, and the dream of gettin 3/4 multicast.

I already think that hes Aghanin's Scepter Upgrade is good becouse even if you have only 20 mana you can cast fireblast.

I'm hoping at some point Icefrog will give Ogre Magi some kind of buff to his ult and Aghanim's Scepter upgrade, they're both pretty meh right now and this is holding him back from competitive play. I like the idea of an active on Multi Cast that would guarantee say 2x casts for a few seconds (with appropriate cooldown and mana cost).

I like a lot of things about this guide - you acknowledge Ogre's limitations early on and I think your builds/items make sense. In fact you would have got the +1 just for including Orb of Venom and Veil of Discord - these items are great on him. I also like that you've pointed out just how tanky Ogre is - people don't seem to know!

Personally I tend to play Ogre as a support hero, but have dabbled with mid once or twice...and he's ok there. Overall well written and well argued, could maybe use a bit more colour to lighten it up. Also, what kind of boots are you recommending? It looks like Boots of Speed into Boots of Travel on the build, but you also mention Arcane Boots?

Few things I'd suggest are worth thinking about - Urn of Shadows - health sustain, a nuke, mana regen and tankiness in a box. Also, I wouldn't completely write off a level 6 Multi Cast - it is situational, but it can make sense. If you go with a max Ignite build, and single points in Fireblast and Bloodlust (i.e. Q-W-W-E-W-R-W) it can be viable.

It gives you the guaranteed AOE on Ignite (great for pushing, ganks and teamfight potential) and the chance of free multicasts on it and Bloodlust, as well as the cooldown reductions - all for the cost of 30 mana on Fireblast (takes it to 105 from 75). It depends - usually I'll go with it if I've got Arcane Boots by then.
