Hello there!
I was wondering about the creation of Guide Police Council for DOTAFire. Why?
Well, we have very good guides around here, but a lot more of troll guides, bad-written guides and a lot of things that confuse new players, spread misinformation, deteriorate the community.

So, what about a Council that can police the guides around here? Made of Veterans and Editors that are well known. So, if someone post a bad guide, they go there and suggest some changes. If the guide owner doesn't make a move to change it, it is hidden from view (or deleted), so they won't show for someone how looking for good and reliable information.

It's a bit controversial, I know, but I think is needed, there were a lot of troll guides published in the last weeks.

Oh, I really love that idea! I would like to volunteer, if "The Elders" would agree on that.

But it is controversial, true. For some, guide could be rubbish and would be downvoted by those Veterans and Editors, while it could be useful in certain situations. Oh, the great responsibility is upon us.

There's usually some guy who posts a link to Dr. D's formatting guide, and if you think a guide gives false information, is poorly formatted, has an outdated skill/item build, etc. anyone can leave a comment and downvote the guide. What more do we really need?

As for Troll Guides, so long as they make it obvious they aren't serious and shouldn't be attempted by new players (unless it is some sort of trolling for newbies guide), I see no problem with them.

Having said that, it might be worthwhile making a collection of praiseworthy guides that are updated regularly/don't need updating just so newer players have some sort of insight into which guides are the most informative on the site. Especially since most non-Hero Guides don't show up on the frontpage unless they're top-rated.

I'll get to making a guide omnibus right away.

Edit: i just realized. we have to contact the guide owners to ask them if they are going to be able to update the guides regularly otherwise this list might not be of any use ;_;

Hero gameplay and item choices rarely change with patches, and even if a guide has became sort of outdated becauseof new patches, you can alway note it next to the link.

Normally I would say that there is already a rating system to dismiss guides full of false information and bad guides in general : if you think a guide is terrible, just downvote it.

But...since I have seen high rated guides that are completely full of ******** from beginning to end ( Sniper is probably the worst in that regard, but it concerns a lot of other heroes too), I think that maybe it would make sense to have two different ratings.

Like you keep the rating system that is available to everyone but you add a veteran rating where only the experienced members can vote.

I don't like the idea of making guides impossible to view or deleting them. This is not a peer-reviewed journal and it feels a bit dictatorial.

However having both a "viewer rating" and an "editor rating" on each guide feels like an interesting idea.
Strategy guide : Anti-pubstomper guide.
Hero guides : Spectre , Windranger and Clinkz

the biggest problem in my opinion, is that guides have been made on the basis of meta and not gameplay, which makes them unusable after a single patch. :/

Well a lot of high rated guides are outdated and bad, but since they are old they cant just be pushed down with a few downvotes.
I think there it should show a clear indicator that a guide is outdated. Maybe that could be manually activated by a certain group of people.
