Drum of Endurance and a Ring of Basilius should be enough for his early game - mid game. You really shouldn't be spamming abilities unless you know you'll catch someone. You can get a Bottle if you want but you'll need to try to get every rune.

Or just get an Urn which is the all around perfect early game item for a Tusk.
