Hey guys! I'm brazilian and I need to play on the "generalized" south american server and it's getting impossible. I have one account with 5k MMR and I'm leveling up my smurf, but in both of them I fall in teams with peruvians that feed and flame the whole game (or until they rage quit), supports don't rotate, etc etc etc. Should Valve invest in servers for specific countries (oh come on, Chile has one!) and region lock them? Show me your opinions

I don't think so. Sometimes there are server problems in which case that would be annoying, however, language preference lock would be AWESOME if they can figure it out.

there were rumors of Valve implementing a IP location check. using the DRM Checks inbuilt into Steam.

so basically every time you enter dota 2 the server pings your IP location and locks out servers that are not within the assessed region. it actually would have worked but the exceptions to the rule plus the DRM software legality of it eventually put a rest to that. also the fact that its basically a form of infringement and profiling also put a stop to it.

i would love a option though where you check it off in settings and when you search it allows the server to collate only people within a certain range. kinda like an OPT-IN thing.

would make things easier.

also imagine that you could have these as checks.

- microphone in use.
- has played (insert amount of games here)
- is within region
- speaks the language
- consistent ping at insert set ping range)

I WILL DESTROY YOU ALL.... WITH FLUFFY BUNNIES

I believe Peru got it's own server along with Chile. I read a post awhile back from a Peruvian player and he went on to explain why so many players queue on multiple servers. One reason for awhile had been that the connection was better to US/East than to the Brazilian server. But the biggest one was that most of these players are very young kids (high school age) who are playing in LAN centers. So since they pay by the hour they don't want to waste time queuing so they check a ton of servers. Also since they are paying for an allotted amount of time they could care less about playing a role the team needs and instead play the role/hero they want since they want to maximize their own personal enjoyment. On top of that I hear from every Peruvian player how much all other Peruvians are bad at Dota so they queue US servers. Couple all that with an NA culture that is very competitive and prioritizes victory and a lack of communication and you get a really ****ty game.

I wouldn't be opposed to region locking but I doubt we will ever see it happen. Also if they did region lock OP it would probably be by continent and not country, so you would still have the same problem. I like Smuggles idea but the more options you have to check the longer the queue gets for everyone and that either means a higher MMR spread game (which is often times a **** show) or even more extended queue times to make sure the MMR is even.

I know it's been said before but my best suggestion is to start playing in 5-stacks. I used to only solo queue and recently I began expanding my friends list and starting to play in stacks and I cant believe how much more fun I'm having. I don't feel like raging on my teammates since I want to play with them again and the inverse it true as well. Also I know what I'm getting into each game and I know my teammates capabilities.

I think region blocks are a fantastic idea. As a player on US West servers, I am extremely tired of Spanish only speakers dominating the evenings and nights. It's frustrating how hard it is to find a game with 10 English speakers in an English speaking country. Language barriers and lag issues only serve to anger players and divide a team.

Volvo please fix.

I'd like to see this too, but you just know that most players will select "English", whether they are willing to speak it or not, just so they can find a match faster. T-T

Yup, this is the root of the problem.
