I just came up from a game that was surprisingly depressing... we were seriously dominating by mid game, but for some reason we lost in the end :/ Of course these things happens when you play ranked >_>

This is the match:

(I was the dragon knight, and my friends were undying and phantom lancer)

Look at the difference in xp earned in mid game... how could we lose this? I really need to ask you guys what went wrong, since I don't understand it and you're more experienced than me.
I simply know that at a certain point that Lifestealer was almost unkillable, his hp regen was insane!
Was the problem in our picks, or we played bad? Also, what's the best counter to Lifestealer?

I'll take a look at it so... brb with an edit

edit:

So I'll review your game by time stamps and what both teams have done overall. I'll add a TL:DR at the end.

0:00 - 10:00

It's a pretty even in terms of how well both teams are doing however, both teams have very low farm, average seems about 20 in this game. Both team's cores have less than 50 cs at the 10 minute mark. Another thing was there weren't enough pressure on Storm and Lifestealer, they suck pretty hard pre-6/early game so the Skywrath should've rotated more especially after you got that first kill onto Abaddon. Also should've ganked/pressured Lifestealer THAT much more since he was farming jungle. His farm and levels could've been much lower if pressured. At this point you should realize the Radiant has the much better late game and depending on how well they do early game, they can do well mid game too since their heroes have strong synergy with each other and can snowball hard.

PL's farm is pretty awful and at this point I can predict that he won't be useful at all based on how hard he got destroyed at top. HIS GPM was among the lowest although he was suppose to be that position 1 hero. No tps to help top, might've saved PL a couple of times and either way, no ganks at top so Slark basically pressured PL so hard PL couldn't farm even though Slark himself didn't farm.

10:01 - 20:00

Around this time you guys started doing a lot more teamfights, surprisingly only a few died overall in this time-frame for your team. However the fight around the t2 tower at mid was overly extended and allowed the Dire to get two kills. WD also got closer to the AGHs upgrade thanks to the two kills. Around this time-frame you guys seem to have gotten cocky due to winning previous teamfights so all of you started diving/forcing teamfights. If this is the case then this could be one of the big determining factors on why you guys lost. Although you had a DK and a THD to help push towers, you guys were having a really hard time doing so because your team focus on trying to get kills. Item build from THD and Skywrath was pretty bad, rushing that AGHS upgrade/Bloodstone instead of getting Force Staff or Rod of Atos to help kite Lifestealer was a bad choice.

Skywrath bought another energy booster even though he had arcane boots to disassemble so he could've had his Soul Booster sooner and saved the gold for the other components. Skill build from PL was weird too, the Doppleganger should of been the better choice and might've helped him survive early - mid game better. So far, PL has been getting a lot of kills but still has poor farm so the kills only offset his poor farm.

20:01 - 30:00

Around this time-frame was a complete turnaround from the constant fighting/push that's been happening. You guys went back to farming which is fine right? No, not really because this let Naix farm jungle for a full 10 minutes WHILE also getting a few kills because of solo ganks from DK and some free kills here and there. By the end of this time-frame, Lifestealer has more networth than DK even though the Radiant's team was technically losing. There's been far too many solo ganks and not enough team push from everyone. Pretty sure Skywrath had Bloodstone so when Sky and DK pushed top and Skywrath got caught out, he didn't use Bloodstone for some reason so another free kill at top.

30:01 - 40:00

Around 31:00, for some reason PL went mid with less than 40% hp even though there was a Storm that takes advantage of this type of positioning. Instead of just turning back, PL for some reason went through the path to mid that's close to the radiant team. Poor choice from PL that eventually led to his death and DK's death giving more gold to the Radiant. REMINDER, small pickoffs for Lifestealer and his team has been slowly happening so they were slowly getting stronger. WD was also getting closer to his BKB, at this point he had about 2300g. For some reason Sky, THD and Undying started another teamfight even though DK and PL died, giving away 2 kills to LS and Storm. Even though PL killed him, that was a pointless fight so whatever kills you guys got here were pretty even since it was basically a trade for the earlier kills. 4 for 4 but you guys cannot afford to give away kills like this since the Radiant are the ones with the snowbally heroes.

Another teamfight happened moments later and again it's not a full team, it's yet again another 3v5. Lifestealer basically got strong enough to survive your team's assault without your team producing results. ONCE again, you guys overextended, Skywrath didn't use Bloodstone at all, you started running away from Lifestealer even though he was low and you had stun+firebreath. If you just stopped running away, stunned him, get a few auto-attacks then breathed; Lifestealer would've died. IF Sky had a force staff he would've survived those situations he did die in. You guys are on a road of giving away free kills because you guys are overextending and not pushing towers together.

Around 36:30 your team pushes top WITHOUT DK and gets totally annihilated which I'm not surprised about. Everybody started doing 3v5s or 3v5 ganks, fed Lifestealer easy gold and levels instead of pushing together SOONER. If you guys started pushing sooner together rather than later, you would've had at least 1 rax or 2 rax down instead of having none. For some reason after that teamfight top, the DK decided to stay mid and you thought you would've lived with Shadow Blade. Even though there have been dust usage earlier. So another kill given to Lifestealer and his team. Skywrath stayed around the t2 tower instead of at the t3 since there's no way he could defend it and this caused Skywrath to die since he was caught out by Storm. For some reason this has been a trend, severely underestimated how well Storm pick off poorly positioned heroes like how Sky was positioned.

Another teamfight around 40:00, THD for some reason was running up to the tower instead of staying in the back to get ready to stun WD if he ults. Instead he gets stunned by WD's cask, stun-locked by Storm and blown up without anybody being able to stun the WD ult. You guys get melted by WD's ult and immediately lost the push. Skywrath was top for some reason to defend against the useless Slark, if he was there to silence the WD thingys might've been different or least been able to survive a bit better. Undying got caught out at top, this should've been an indicator for everyone else to back up. Instead PL and Skywrath stayed to fight instead of just defending at t3. Again DK overextends and a full teamwipe.

TL:DR

Poor farming from both teams, however The Dire had the advantage of having better teamfight and push. Between 0:00 - 20:00 minute time-frame, you guys were doing ok. Winning teamfights, pushing towers and applying tower pressure together. However, you guys got too confident and overextended way too much while not pushing. Lifestealer prioritized farm in the mean-while getting a few kills/assists from your team's poor ganks. Game got long enough were your team's poor farm, poor decision making and item choices started to show.
  • Stopped applying pressure after 20:00 minutes for some reason
  • No map control even though you guys were technically winning
  • Too many over-extentions and the complete stop to pushing as a team
  • Too many 3v5 fights in favor of The Radiant
  • Game took too long, lost focus of taking objectives
  • Poor decision making, Poor positioning, Poor farm
  • Began to lose all advantages after the 20:00 mark
