Or in the games where there aren't very many crowd control abilities in pubs, than Heaven's Halberd can work wonders. I feel lik that item is underutilized, but also realize the evasion it provides can potentially give the hero armed with it enough to outlast a bkb, and disarm the opposing r-clicker. The item is baller as hell on Axe. Also consider building it if you have a support such as Bane who can remove a bkb carry from a fight anyway, you can either disarm the next greatest threat or save it to mop up the carry.
Step 1: Pick Bristleback
Step 2: type in all chat:"GL hf"
Step 3: solo offlane
Step 4: first blood triple kill solo vs trilane
Step 5: continue head butting keyboard
Step 6: don't care, Bristleback doesn't give a ****
Step 7: screenshot repeated: BB OP comments in all chat
Step 8: alternate games with Slark pick

For the most overrated item I'd say Hand of Midas without question. It's probably the item that is the least suited to pub games because this item is made to thrive in long games where nothing happens like a lot of competitive games but which is the very opposite of the "win mid win game" pubs. Pubs imitate pro players way too much with Midas gaming and it's just not relevant. The worst part is that the higher the MMR, the more commonly you see Midas gaming throwing games. Just saw a high MMR replay of a Midas Enigma...nice 20 minute Mek and 28 minute blink, nice 32 minute GG :)
The worst part is that people get Midas on the basis of wrong math : they blindly believe the myth that "Midas pays for itself after 17 minutes" which is completely false. Midas does NOT generate 190 gold on activation, it only generates 140 gold : the bounty given by Midas MINUS the normal bounty of the creep which you would have gotten anyways. Besides it's off cooldown some of the time. Assuming 140 gold on activation and Midas being on cooldown only 90% of the time you get the much more realistic "Midas pays for itself in 27 minutes". Do you still want that 9-minute Midas which is 2k gold into an item that does absolutely nothing in the hopes that it gives you a tiny bit of gold after the 36 minute mark? Well yeah, maybe your crystal maiden is better off with an item that actually does something, like a force staff...just saying.

On the complete opposite I think that Urn of Shadows is an extremely underrated item in pubs, and that every team should have one. In the opposite to Midas, Urn is an item that thrives when there is lots of action, and seeing how many kills you witness in pubs it never runs out of charges. It's so good that it's not restricted to supports or gankers - a lot of carries really benefit from it, for example Urn on Faceless Void is really awesome and it's all the sustain you'll ever need. Not to mention that it's good for your team for early/mid game pushing. In competitive you start pushing when you have Mek but in pubs you can start pushing as soon as you have urn : I won a lot of 20-minute games against ganking lineups like this with ultra-early push.

Mate, I don't usually enjoy pointing out logical errors, but this kinda calls for it.

You're thinking about this all wrong! It doesn't just give you gold, it gives double the exp of what the creep usually gives. For example, use it on a centaur conqueror , you get half a regular level bar in ONE GO every 100 or so seconds. Yes, the gold itself is not enough, but gold bonus and a rather significant level advantage? That, my geomancer friend, is alchemy that even Razzil would be proud of.

Also, maiden needs better item? Mask of Madness, and be damned with consequences!

I know! You get Midas on Invoker/Furion/WK/etc because you want experience! So why do millions of people advocate getting Midas on random heroes because "it pays for itself in 17 minutes" (which it doesn't) ; getting Midas on already-good-farmers like Shadow Fiend or Terrorblade (probably the worst idea in the world), getting Midas on Alchemist despite the complete absence of synergy with his passive, or getting Midas on early game roamers like Enchantress (everytime I see an Ench afk farm a Midas, a kitten dies). I mean I even saw a Midas Anti-Mage once in a freaking 5k MMR game...and the guy wasn't even trolling!

I'm not saying that Midas is a bad item, it certainly has its uses : it's simply that people have no clue what it means to go for one, and I've seen Midas gaming throw games way more than Dagon gaming.

Rod of Atos is the most underrated item.
