I play Dota 2 ( Obviously, otherwise I wouldn't be on a Dota 2 Forum ) and I had a few questions about the game. I generally create a party and play with one of my friends, and I had been wondering, what kind of combination of heroes can he and I use to be most helpful to each other? I don't have any preference for hero, and I'm looking to find the hero that will work best for me.

Well first of all, what role do you and your friend want to play together as that will help narrow down some choices. Usually when I'm playing with my friends I play a safelane (that being bottom for radiant and top for dire in case you didn't know) carry and my friend will play support so I know our laning will be in sync (or vice versa). If you want to go down that road some good carries to learn would include Chaos Knight, Brewmaster, Spectre, Terrorblade and so on. If you are looking into playing support I would personally recommend Dazzle, Crystal Maiden, Shadow Demon, Jakiro and Sand King (Who is more of an initiator than a support but oh well).

Hope this was helpful,
-BK

My friend generally tends to play as Abaddon or Doom Bringer. I generally don't care what class I am, as long as the class is able to take damage and also deal a bit. I'm kind of hoping to find a hero to support my friend, but also be able to be active in the fighting.

I'm guessing your friend plays them both as Carries or Offlaners? If so, you will want to play a Support and Lane with him to balance out the team.

The only Support I can think of that can take and give Damage fairly well is Axe. He's a fun Hero to play (DUNK!), so I'm sure you'll enjoy him. Just remember that he can't do much against a Carry 1 vs. 1 after about 30 or 40 minutes into the game. I'd recommend RConquerer's guide, but please buy a Mekansm instead of a Vanguard if no one else on your Team is building one...which they probably won't.

The only problem with this is that you'll have 2 Melees in lane, but with good teamwork and a little practise, you can probably overcome the challenge ;{)

Nuking supports are squishy, sadly, but they deal a lot of damage, and is excellent for supporting a carry (your friend) in lane and 'being active in the fighting'. Lion, Lina, Crystal Maiden. Tanky supports that are still useful and deal damage can be Omniknight, Ogre Magi, Jakiro.

Lane supports are useful because you can save your carry from dying (either by a disable or a heal), and still deal damage as well.

If your friend liked to play carries (The dudes who get the last hits and the kills) Then you should play a lane support for him.

The carry is the one who deals the damage. therefore, they need money to buy fancy items that make them kill people even faster, so they can get more money to...You get the picture.

The support, on the other hand, typically needs very few items to be of use, since they're usually categorized by their early access to powerful and reliable stuns, or the ability to save themselves or an ally.

If you want a support who can take a few more hits than normal, Tidehunter and Omniknight would be my two recommendations. But just remember that these two heroes are Strength, and as such, suffer from a very limited mana pool, and almost no mana regeneration. So play smart. Ogre Magi is another alternative, but is spells cost a hefty sum of mana as well, though he's able to regen his mana much easier.

Tidehunter is a powerful support because of his ultimate, which stuns every enemy is a massive AoE. Omniknight, because he can heal an ally, damage enemies, and make allies invulnerable (to both magic and physical damage). And Ogre Magi is just plain old fun. A long range, powerful stun, a long range DoT, and a super useful attack and movespeed buff. But be warned, his ultimate Multi Cast requires more skill than any other spell in the game.
