Although I agree that they are all good choices, most of the other choices given here aren't the easiest characters to start with. Bristleback and Centaur Warrunner requires a fair amount of practice to use properly.

Spectre is considered a very tanky hard-carry thanks to her damage block. And IMO Medusa
tankiest carry in the game, tho hard to use correctly, impossibe to kill good medusa player.
Pudge is considered one of the tankiest heroes in the game because of his high STR gain and flesh heaps, but you have to learn the hook.
There are lots of tanks in the game: Chaos Knight skeleton king doom bringer necrolyte( very tanky for an INT hero tho 5 sec cooldown heal/nuke and usually builds a Rod of Atos.
If you want tank items you can find them under armor in the shop.

I wouldn't recommend Spectre she's actually pretty difficult.

I would recommend you to have a look at this. You should check for a low overall Rating and low Micro Management / Survival Priority.

--- Edit: ---

According to the list I'd tell you to try Skeleton King, Centaur Warrunner , Treant Protector, Juggernaut and maybe Clockwerk.

Hope it helps. :)

Yeah not 100% convinced about that list - wouldn't say Clock is especially easy to play, and apparently TA is harder than Meepo :). The issue is that any carry you play requires you to be able to last hit fairly well, most supports are squishy and require good positioning. Saying all that, someone like Skeleton King has mostly passives and is reasonably forgiving.

So yeah the best would be Centaur Warrunner for a new player. since he isn't that farm dependant and pretty straight forward classic tank. and Return is too fun coupled with a Blade Mail

Lifestealer is arguably one of the easiest heroes to play with, and he's also an excellent tanky hero. I'd recommend him a newcomer to dota.

Lifestealer and Axe are easy to play and are quite tanky. Lifestealer got free hp leeching while axe can keep spinning.

However, I don't really think Centaur Warrunner is good for newcomers. Simply spamming 2nd skill will kill you easily, same goes for 1st skill too. You need practise for this hero.

i really dont understand, why some people would recommend ANY KIND of carry to a new player. As easy as a Naix may be to play, playing a hardcarry ALWAYS requires good decision-making and presence of mind, as his team is 2 reliant on him to not make mistakes and getting killed (i hope this sentence makes any sense ---- my english isnt really good).

IMO there are a few rules for hero picking for new players:

1. Dont play a role ur whole team has to rely on!!! --> hard carry or solo laner
2. Pick a hero that has RELIABLE nukes / disables (leshrac and lina stun need a lot of practice for example)
3. The hero u have shouldnt need much farm, nor should he have an unflexible itembuild (Meduse and timbersaw for example rely too much on bloodstone)
4. Try not to pick a hero that requires high knowledge about game mechanics or needs superior presence of mind. (invoker, pudge, furion, chen, morphling)
5. Since u will die alot as a new player try to go for something tanky.

There are some heroes that need special mention imo:

venomancer and razor: both of them have a sustained damage output and therefor need few dmg items to be a threat to the enemy team ---> go for a tanky build and u can still get a good score and be somewhat of a carry, even as a new player.

zeus, deathprophet, lich and lion: all of them need fairly little farm and still can be very powerfull nukers --> heroes that profit more from exp than gpm are generally advisable for new players.

The problem with using Lion and Zeus is people will expect you to dish out the damage and/or disable. This is bad if you don't know how to do it. Simply spamming their spells will result in unwanted effects, and positioning is important for these two, especially.

I can agree with Venomancer and Razor though, because good damage, good nuke that isn't too powerful and can't be randomly spammed here and there.

Lifestealer is good because he is an anti-tank. Meaning, he can 'tank' while his allies dish the damage, regardless he dies or not. For newer players, getting a Skull Basher is enough to make you useful to your team and not a full liability.
