Guide Sorting and Score Changes - Guest Voting

Hello everyone!

We're very excited to announce some new updates that are going to change the way guide voting works and improve the scoring system. But that's not all, we have also added a new feature that displays the DotA game play patch version that your guide is for! :)

What Is Guest Voting And How Does It Work?

Guest votes are votes cast by DOTAFire users while not logged in. We will be having two types of guide score, one based on member votes only, and one based on both member and guest votes. The highest score will be taken as your guide score, meaning guest votes can't hurt you, they can only help you and increase your guide's score!

Why Are We Adding Guest Voting?

We've found less and less users are logging in to cast votes as time goes on. We want guide scores to show a true reflection of the DOTAFire community's opinions, and at the moment the vast majority of the DOTAFire community uses the website while logged out.

You guys make awesome guides and we want you to get the votes and ratings you deserve. When a person reads your guide and clicks to vote, we want you to know that someone liked your guide and gave it a thumbs up.

Having more votes also means more accurate guide scoring and ranking. This will benefit both the author and the reader, since the author will know that people have appreciated their work and the readers will find the guides they're looking for easier.

How Are Guides Sorted And How Is The Patch Displayed?

Our patch database will be updated regularly with all the patches that are coming out, and the guides you create and update will display the appropriate patch that's live when your guide was published. For example, the latest patch is 7.19d and it came out on 12th October 2018, meaning that guides created or updated during 7.19d will be marked with the latest patch. Older guides will also be marked to the closest patch based on the corresponding date.

Guides are going to be sorted by patch and then by score, meaning that keeping your guide updated is more important to stay on top. If you feel that your guide is already up to date for the latest patch, you can simply publish it again for the date to update and you're good to go!

Note: Make sure to publish your guide only if it's actually up to date. Repeatedly publishing your guide with outdated information and without updating its contents just to have it on the top is against the rules.

How does this affect non-hero guides? Like my status effects guide that you should totally check out

Mhm. My one quip is that some (most) general guides are not tied to patches (i.e. most status effects and what they do won't change much over patches, neither will other topics like drafting, etc. etc). Maybe show their patch created but not rank them by it?
